Every current Aether heat pump uses R290 refrigerant. The heat pump absorbs thermal energy from the surrounding air and transfers that energy into the stored water.
This is fundamentally different from standard electric storage, where an electric resistance element creates almost all of the heat directly.
Because the compressor is moving heat rather than simply generating it, Aether heat pumps can produce several units of useful heat for each unit of electricity consumed under suitable operating conditions.
Aether's current HP200 and HP270 list a COP around 4.15 under the specified manufacturer test conditions.
The newer Γ¦therX range increases that figure considerably. Current manufacturer data lists standard-mode COP figures around 4.86 for Γ¦therCore, 4.93 for Γ¦therHome and 5.00 for Γ¦therMax, with even higher figures listed in Economic mode.
COP is a controlled test figure rather than a fixed household saving. Actual electricity use changes with ambient temperature, inlet-water temperature, usage, operating mode and how often the backup element runs.
Noise is one of Aether's major selling points. Current HP Series specifications list approximately 43 dB, while Γ¦therX is listed around 44 dB at one metre.
Actual perceived sound still depends on the installation location and how sound reflects from walls, fences, alcoves and neighbouring structures.
Current Aether systems support Wi-Fi connectivity and app-based control. The original HP Series provides remote monitoring and scheduling, while Γ¦therX expands the smart-control platform.
Γ¦therX includes operating modes such as Eco, Standard, Booster and E-Heater, plus scheduled operation and diagnostic information.
Aether also promotes predictive alerts and solar-aware operation through the Γ¦therSmart platform.
Aether heat pumps can work particularly well with rooftop solar PV because water heating can be scheduled during periods of strong daytime generation.
Rather than exporting all excess solar electricity, part of that generation can be used by the heat pump to store energy as hot water for later use.
The newer Γ¦therX platform is specifically marketed around solar-aware scheduling, while the HP Series can also be scheduled for daytime heating.
No. Current Aether residential heat pumps use single-phase 220β240V power.
Aether markets both the HP Series and Γ¦therX around straightforward residential electrical installation. The exact connection method and maximum current still need to match the selected model and Australian electrical requirements.
The newer Γ¦therX range has a listed maximum input current below 10A under its current manufacturer specifications.
Current Aether heat pumps use enamel-lined steel storage cylinders with sacrificial-anode protection.
The enamel lining protects the steel cylinder while the replaceable anode provides additional corrosion protection.
This means Aether is not a stainless-steel heat-pump tank system and water quality and future anode maintenance remain relevant to long-term tank protection.
Current Aether systems are designed for a broad Australian operating temperature range.
The HP Series is currently specified for operation down to approximately -7Β°C and up to around 43Β°C, while the newer Γ¦therX range extends its listed upper operating range to approximately 45Β°C.
South East Queensland normally operates well inside those conditions, although heat-pump efficiency and recovery naturally vary with ambient temperature.
Replacing conventional electric storage is one of the most common reasons to choose an Aether heat pump.
The household retains stored hot water but changes the main heating method from electric resistance to heat-pump technology.
The new system does not necessarily need to match the litre capacity of the old electric tank. Household demand and Aether's recovery performance should be considered first.
Current Aether heat pump models are marketed as rebate-ready and eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates where the exact approved product and installation meet the applicable scheme requirements.
The actual benefit varies by model, installation date, location and current government scheme rules.
Current Aether HP Series and Γ¦therX products are marketed with a five-year warranty.
Aether's current HP Series information describes five-year coverage across the compressor, tank cylinder, electrical components and labour, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms.
Warranty conditions should always be checked against the exact model and installation at the time of purchase.
Aether is positioned as a modern heat-pump specialist rather than a broad hot water manufacturer. Its current range is focused entirely around efficient all-in-one heat pump systems with R290 refrigerant, low operating noise and connected controls.
The original HP Series provides a simpler proven platform, while Γ¦therX adds greater efficiency, more advanced controls and a larger 320L option.
That makes the key buying decision less about choosing between completely different technologies and more about capacity, budget and whether the additional Γ¦therX efficiency and smart-control features are worthwhile for the household.
JR Gas & Water supplies and installs eligible Aether heat pump hot water systems throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast and eligible South East Queensland service areas.
Installation needs to consider system capacity, airflow, condensate drainage, base position, plumbing, electrical supply, required clearances and access for future maintenance.
Current Aether systems are designed for outdoor installation and are particularly suited to replacing existing external electric or gas storage hot water systems where the location meets the manufacturer's requirements.
