Why We No Longer Offer Price Matching — and Why That’s Better for You

At JR Gas & Water, we have made a deliberate decision to no longer offer price matching. It is one of the reasons our customers consistently rate us among Brisbane and the Gold Coast’s most trusted plumbing specialists.

Here’s why.

1. Plumbing Is Not a Like-for-Like Product

Price matching works for boxed retail products. It does not work the same way for trade installations.

Two quotes that appear identical on paper are rarely identical in practice. Important differences can include:

• Installation shortcuts

• Inferior fittings or valves

• Non-compliant materials

• Unlicensed or subcontracted labour

• Excluded disposal, electrical work, upgrades or compliance requirements

• Reduced workmanship warranties or after-installation support

Matching a cheaper price can mean matching a lower installation standard, and that is something we will not do.

2. Cheap Quotes Often Rely on Cutting Corners

Many cheaper prices are achieved through:

• Rushed installations

• Minimal compliance checks

• Using the cheapest allowable components

• Excluding after-installation support

• Passing warranty responsibility entirely back to the manufacturer

• Charging additional costs once the installation has started

Those savings do not disappear. They often reappear later as breakdowns, call-out fees, compliance issues or warranty disputes.

3. Price Matching Encourages Hidden Costs

Price matching can create a race to the bottom where:

• Quotes are intentionally under-scoped

• Required work is listed as an optional extra

• Additional charges are applied onsite

• Fine print is used to exclude essential installation requirements

We do not operate that way.

Instead, we price installations properly from the beginning, so you know exactly what is included and what the complete job will cost.

Price Match Requirements for Orders Placed Before 1 January 2026

For orders placed before 1 January 2026, price match requests will be assessed under our previous Price Match Guarantee and must meet all the following requirements.

72-Hour Claim Period

The complete competing quote must be supplied to JR Gas & Water within 72 hours of the order being placed.

Requests received outside this 72-hour period will not be eligible for consideration.

The price match must also be requested before installation work begins. Price matching cannot be applied retrospectively after an installation has commenced or been completed.

The Competing Quote Must Be Identical

The competing quote must be provided in writing and include:

• The identical product, model, capacity and installation type

• The same installation location, site conditions and access requirements

• All required labour

• All required materials, valves, fittings and pipework

• Electrical work where applicable

• Delivery of the new system

• Removal and lawful disposal of the existing system where included in our price

• Compliance certificates, permits and statutory charges where required

• GST and all other fees

The quoted total must represent the complete installed price.

The competing quote must not contain:

• Additional onsite charges

• Optional installation extras

• Provisional allowances

• Undisclosed exclusions

• Additional travel charges

• Additional compliance costs

• Further amounts payable during or after installation

Where the competing quote excludes an item included in the JR Gas & Water price, the reasonable cost of that item may be added to the competing quote before the prices are compared.

Licence Details Must Appear on the Quote

The competing quote must clearly display:

• The competing business’s Queensland plumbing contractor licence number

• The competing business’s Queensland electrical contractor licence number where electrical work is included

• The licensed business name and ABN associated with each licence

• The name and licence number of any separate electrical contractor proposed to complete the electrical work

All listed licence numbers must be current, valid and capable of independent verification against the relevant Queensland licensing registers.

Quotes that do not display the required plumbing and electrical licence details will not be accepted for price matching.

Where electrical work forms part of the installation, it must be included in the total quoted price and completed by directly employed, appropriately licensed technicians. Electrical work subcontracted or referred to an unrelated third party will not qualify.

Matched Against Our 30-Day Installation Rate

Any approved price match will be assessed against JR Gas & Water’s equivalent 30-day installation rate only.

Price matching does not apply to:

• Same-day installation

• Priority installation

• Customer-selected installation dates

• Emergency work

• After-hours work

• Expedited installation services

• Any shorter installation timeframe

The competing business must also be able to complete the installation within a reasonably equivalent timeframe.

Our Price Match Offer

Where a qualifying competing quote is approved, JR Gas & Water will:

• Match the qualifying competing price; and

• Provide the customer with a $50 gift card.

The gift card will be supplied after the eligible installation has been completed and the order has been paid for in full.

The gift card cannot be exchanged for cash, deducted from the invoice total or combined with another promotional offer unless approved by JR Gas & Water.

Eligible Competitors

The competing business must:

• Be based in South East Queensland

• Have an established operating address in South East Queensland

• Complete the installation using its own directly employed technicians

• Not rely on subcontractors, labour-hire workers or third-party installation networks

• Hold all required Queensland plumbing and electrical licences

• Display the required licence details on the competing quote

• Hold current and appropriate insurance

• Have a current ProductReview.com.au rating of at least 4.5 stars from a minimum of 500 published reviews

• Have the quoted product genuinely available

• Be able to complete the work within the quoted timeframe

• Provide equivalent workmanship and after-sales support

• Be willing and able to honour the quoted price and all listed inclusions

We do not price match:

• Installed Today

• Related or associated entities

• Supply-only retailers

• Online marketplaces

• Referral services

• Lead-generation websites

• Auction websites

• Private sellers

• Businesses operating primarily through subcontractors

• Interstate businesses without an established South East Queensland operation

Prices Below Our Cost Are Excluded

Price matching does not apply where the competing price is below JR Gas & Water’s cost price for supplying and completing the installation.

This includes the cost of:

• The product

• Labour

• Materials

• Delivery

• Disposal

• Plumbing and electrical compliance

• Administration

• Warranty obligations

• Other costs reasonably required to complete the installation

JR Gas & Water is not required to disclose its supplier pricing, labour costs, internal expenses or cost-price calculations.

Additional Price Match Conditions

• The competing quote must be current, valid and capable of independent verification.

• The quote must clearly identify the competing business, customer, installation address, product and complete scope of work.

• The quote must have been specifically prepared for the same customer and installation property.

• Screenshots of general website prices, advertisements or verbal prices are not accepted as complete competing quotes.

• The customer must accurately disclose the same site conditions and installation requirements to both businesses.

• The competing business must have the quoted product genuinely available at the time of the request.

• The quoted product must be new, current Australian stock and covered by an equivalent Australian manufacturer warranty.

• All plumbing and electrical work must be included in the quote where required for a complete and compliant installation.

• Clearance items, discontinued products, damaged stock, seconds, display stock, refurbished products and grey imports are excluded.

• Pricing errors, typographical errors and incorrectly advertised prices are excluded.

• Employee pricing, trade pricing, wholesale pricing, membership pricing and prices unavailable to the general public are excluded.

• Cash-only offers, package deals, bundled offers and limited-quantity promotions are excluded.

• Government rebates, STCs, certificates, incentives and discounts must be treated identically in both prices.

• The price match cannot be combined with another JR Gas & Water discount, promotion, payment discount, waiting-period discount, store credit or special offer.

• Finance fees, merchant fees, card fees and payment surcharges must be included when comparing the total amount payable.

• Changes to the product, installation scope, property conditions or customer requirements may result in the price match being withdrawn or recalculated.

• JR Gas & Water may contact the competing business to verify the quote, inclusions, product availability, licence details, employment arrangements and proposed installation timeframe.

• The customer may be required to provide photographs, measurements or further site information before the request is assessed.

• Any additional work discovered onsite that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand will be treated in accordance with the accepted quote and applicable terms.

• Submission of a price match request does not guarantee approval.

Right to Decline

JR Gas & Water reserves the right to decline any price match request at its discretion.

A request may be declined where:

• The competing quote cannot be independently verified

• The quote is incomplete, unclear or misleading

• The required plumbing or electrical licence details do not appear on the quote

• The listed licences are invalid, expired or cannot be verified

• The installation is not genuinely like-for-like

• The competing business does not meet the eligibility requirements

• The competing price is below our cost price

• The request is supplied outside the 72-hour claim period

• The product is unavailable

• The quoted timeframe cannot be verified

• The quote contains errors or unrealistic allowances

• The installation relies on subcontractors or third-party installers

• There are reasonable concerns about licensing, compliance, workmanship, warranties or after-sales support

• The request does not comply with any requirement of this Price Match Guarantee

Where a competing quote does not include the same product, installation scope, materials, plumbing work, electrical work, compliance requirements, workmanship standards, warranties, disposal and after-sales support, it will not be considered a like-for-like quotation.

All price match decisions made by JR Gas & Water are final.
