JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Emerald All-In-One PRO 220L Heat Pump across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland areas for homes wanting a compact, app-connected alternative to conventional electric storage hot water.
The Emerald 220L All-In-One Pro combines the storage cylinder, compressor, fan, evaporator, controller and heat exchanger in one integrated unit. The current manufacturer 220L range includes the EE-HWS-A1-220 without an electric backup element and the EE-HWS-A1-220E with a 1.6kW electric element.
Emerald's current specification for the 220L platform publishes a 2.8kW heat-pump heating capacity, 0.56kW rated input, COP of 4.9 and 58 litres per hour recharge rate in Standard heat-pump mode under its stated test conditions.
JR treats the installation as part of the product decision. The household's actual hot water demand, available space, airflow, condensate drainage, electrical supply, water pressure, existing plumbing and future service access all need to suit the selected Emerald variant.
Emerald PRO 220L at a glance: a 220L all-in-one R290 heat pump with built-in Wi-Fi, Standard, Silent and Booster operation, 58 L/hr published Standard-mode recharge and 49dB(A) sound at 1 metre, reducing to 45dB(A) in Silent mode. Emerald's current manufacturer size guide places the 220L around 1–3 people, while JR's live product guidance allows up to 4 where household demand suits the system.

Is the Emerald PRO 220L Right for My Home?
A Good Choice If...
You want an efficient all-in-one heat pump, prefer a smaller 220L tank, have an appropriate outdoor position and value app-connected controls and selectable operating modes.
Consider Another Option If...
Your home regularly has strong back-to-back shower demand, several bathrooms operate at once, you need a larger stored-water reserve or the available position cannot achieve Emerald's airflow clearances.
JR Should Check First If...
You are changing from gas or solar hot water, the existing electrical supply is uncertain, water pressure is high, side access is tight, the location sits close to sleeping areas or the system needs to be relocated.
How Many People Does the Emerald PRO 220L Suit?
Emerald's current All-In-One Pro manufacturer brochure places the 220L model in its 1–3 person size guide. JR's current live product configuration lists the 220L for up to four occupants, reflecting a broader installation-based sizing approach.
The sensible way to interpret those two figures is to look at actual demand rather than assume a single occupant number applies to every home. Shower duration, shower-head flow, baths, multiple bathrooms, washing patterns and the timing of morning and evening peak use all affect whether 220L provides enough reserve.
When 220L Makes Sense
The 220L can be a good match for smaller households and properties with controlled hot water use, particularly where the compact 1598mm height is useful.
When to Compare the 270L
A four-person home with longer showers, simultaneous bathrooms or heavier peak demand should compare the 270L model rather than selecting the 220L solely because it has a lower purchase price.
How Does the Emerald PRO 220L Heat Water?
The Emerald uses an air-source refrigeration cycle. Its DC inverter compressor and fan draw thermal energy from surrounding air, and a microchannel heat exchanger transfers that energy into the stored water.
In Standard heat-pump mode, Emerald publishes a 2.8kW heating capacity from 0.56kW rated electrical input under the stated test condition. The system adjusts compressor and fan operation rather than running only as a fixed-speed appliance.
The EE-HWS-A1-220E variant also contains a 1.6kW electric heating element. The standard EE-HWS-A1-220 does not have that element and instead relies on its inverter heat-pump system for Standard, Silent and Booster operation.
In simple terms: outside air → R290 refrigeration cycle → microchannel heat exchanger → heat transferred into the 220L tank → stored hot water delivered to the home.
Key Features of the Emerald PRO 220L

What's Included With Emerald PRO 220L Installation?
Standard Installation
The selected JR package covers the applicable standard labour and materials needed to position and connect the Emerald where the existing services, base, access and location meet the package conditions.
Compliance & Commissioning
The unit is connected, filled and commissioned, with plumbing, safety valves, drainage, electrical operation, controller function and normal heat-pump operation checked before completion.
Possible Additional Work
Electrical circuit upgrades, additional valves, pressure control, pipework, condensate drainage, base preparation, relocation or difficult-access work may fall outside a standard installation and require additional pricing.
How Much Does Emerald PRO 220L Installation Cost?
Current supplied-and-installed pricing is shown in the live JR product and installation selector above. This keeps product price, package inclusions, STC treatment, installation timeframe and current booking availability aligned with JR's live system.
The final Emerald 220L installation cost can vary according to the existing hot water system, selected Emerald variant, electrical requirements, valves, water pressure, pipework, drainage, supporting base, access and whether the unit can remain in the current hot water position.
A straightforward electric-storage replacement in a suitable external location will normally require fewer changes than a gas or solar conversion, an E-Heater installation requiring electrical upgrading or a job where the old cylinder position does not provide the required heat-pump airflow.
Emerald PRO 220L Heat Pump Installation Brisbane
JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Emerald PRO 220L heat pump in Brisbane for suitable electric-storage replacements, heat-pump replacements and approved hot water conversions.
The relatively compact 1598mm height can make the 220L model practical where a larger heat pump would be difficult to position, but side airflow remains critical. Fences, retaining walls, air-conditioning units, landscaping and narrow access beside Brisbane homes can all affect whether the current hot water location is suitable.
For an existing electric-storage replacement, nearby water and electrical services may simplify part of the installation, but condensate drainage, the selected model's electrical requirements and future servicing access still need to be checked.
JR services eligible Brisbane installations together with Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay areas subject to the current product package and booking availability.
Emerald PRO 220L Heat Pump Installation Gold Coast
JR Gas & Water also provides Emerald PRO 220L installation on the Gold Coast for suitable homes wanting a compact, connected heat-pump hot water system.
Gold Coast installations need to consider more than the physical 600mm footprint. The fan intake and exhaust require clear space, condensate needs a practical discharge path and the location should not create unnecessary operating-noise issues around bedrooms or neighbouring properties.
Emerald's current installation guidance also notes that systems installed within 500 metres of a coastline may require additional maintenance and adequate protection from coastal exposure. That makes the exact installation position particularly important on salt-affected properties.
If the Emerald is replacing gas, solar or another heat pump, JR can assess which existing services are reusable and where plumbing, drainage or electrical alterations are required before the final installation scope is confirmed.
Can the Emerald PRO 220L Replace My Existing Hot Water System?
Replacing Electric Storage
This can be a practical upgrade where the existing or nearby position has suitable airflow, drainage, plumbing and electrical supply for the chosen Emerald variant.
Replacing Another Heat Pump
An older all-in-one heat pump may be replaceable with the Emerald, but fan orientation, clearances, electrical demand, connection heights and condensate arrangements should still be checked.
Replacing Gas Hot Water
Changing from gas to heat pump is a technology conversion. The job may require new electrical provision, changed pipework and compliant alteration or decommissioning of the old gas installation.
Replacing Solar Hot Water
Solar hot water can also be replaced with an Emerald heat pump, but the existing cylinder, roof collectors, solar pipework, booster circuit and removal work should be included in the replacement scope.

| Net Weight | 118kg | 132kg | 146kg |
| Best Comparison Point | Compact option for lighter demand. | Mid-size family option. | Largest PRO storage option for higher demand. |
The largest tank is not automatically the right choice. Household demand, available space, recovery requirements, electrical configuration and installation position should determine which Emerald size makes sense.
How Efficient Is the Emerald PRO 220L?
Emerald publishes a COP of 4.9 for the 220L in Standard heat-pump mode under its specified test condition. The same specification gives a 2.8kW heating capacity from 0.56kW rated electrical input and a 58 L/hr recharge rate.
In Silent mode, published heating capacity reduces to 2.0kW, rated input falls to 0.44kW and sound reduces from 49dB(A) to 45dB(A) at one metre.
Emerald promotes potential hot-water bill savings of up to 80% compared with its stated electric-storage reference. That is a manufacturer maximum claim rather than a guaranteed saving for every household. Real electricity use depends on water demand, ambient temperature, operating mode, Booster use, tariff, solar generation and the system being replaced.
Efficiency takeaway: the heat-pump cycle provides the main efficiency benefit. Selecting the right tank size and operating mode is just as important as the headline COP if the goal is to keep real-world running costs down.
Can the Emerald PRO 220L Work With Solar PV?
Yes. Emerald promotes its connected hot water platform for use alongside rooftop solar through scheduling and its Solar Soaker functionality.
The heat pump does not need a direct water connection to the solar panels. Instead, smart scheduling can encourage the water heater to operate during periods when the property is producing excess rooftop solar electricity.
The best schedule still depends on household hot water use, the size and generation profile of the solar system, electricity tariff and how much stored hot water needs to remain available outside the daytime solar period.
Emerald PRO 220L Maintenance
Keep Airflow Clear
Leaves, storage, screens and vegetation should not restrict the intake or exhaust. Emerald specifically recommends regular cleaning around the airflow path.
Maintain Drainage & Valves
Condensate drainage and hot-water safety-valve drainage need to remain clear and correctly positioned throughout the life of the installation.
Maintain Tank Protection
The tank uses two magnesium anodes. Emerald's warranty conditions require routine maintenance and specifically reference anode inspection and replacement where required.

How Do STC Rebates Work?
Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs, are part of the Australian Government’s renewable energy scheme. Eligible heat pump and solar hot water systems can generate STCs, which carry a monetary value. JR Gas & Water applies this value as an upfront rebate so customers see a reduced out-of-pocket price on eligible products rather than needing to claim anything later themselves.
For clarity, JR Gas & Water uses a flat-rate STC rebate of $1,000 including GST on eligible systems. This means the price shown online is the customer’s out-of-pocket price after the rebate has already been applied. It is not the full gross system price before the rebate.
As an example, if a system is advertised online at $4,000, the gross system price is $5,000, less the $1,000 STC rebate, leaving the advertised out-of-pocket amount of $4,000.
This upfront rebate is offered on the basis that the installation will be completed compliantly, the system will remain eligible for STCs, and JR Gas & Water will be able to create, process, and receive the value of those certificates after installation. We handle the STC paperwork and process behind the scenes, but the rebate is conditional and relies on the job proceeding correctly from start to finish.
Who Is Eligible?
In general, customers may be eligible for the STC rebate where they are purchasing an approved solar hot water system, heat pump hot water system, or other eligible product that qualifies under the applicable scheme rules at the time of installation.
Eligibility generally requires that:
the product itself is STC eligible,
the installation address is eligible,
the system is installed in Australia,
the installation is completed in a compliant manner,
the system is capable of being properly verified,
and the customer provides any required information, declarations, signatures, and supporting documents needed to process the STCs.
Where JR Gas & Water advertises an eligible system with the rebate already applied, the customer is agreeing that the STCs will be assigned to JR Gas & Water or its nominated agent as part of the sale. That assignment is what allows the rebate to be applied upfront instead of the customer paying full price.
When Is the Rebate Not Available or Not Valid?
The STC rebate is not an automatic discount in every situation. It is only available where the installation proceeds fully and remains eligible for STC creation and assignment.
A customer may not be eligible, or may be required to repay the rebate amount, where:
the order is cancelled after rebate pricing has been applied,
the customer declines installation,
the site is not ready,
access is refused,
the installation cannot proceed due to hazards, animals, obstructions, or unsafe conditions,
the customer wants to keep the STCs personally,
required paperwork is not signed or returned,
incorrect or incomplete information is provided,
the property or system turns out not to qualify,
the quoted eligible product is changed,
a third party interferes with, alters, completes, disconnects, reconnects, or modifies the installation,
required compliance or upgrade works are refused,
or the installation cannot be lawfully completed in a way that allows the STCs to be validly claimed.
This also includes situations where another contractor performs part of the work in a way that affects eligibility, or where changes made by the customer or another trade prevent JR Gas & Water from receiving the STC benefit that the upfront rebate was based on.
What Happens If the Customer Does Not Proceed?
Where a customer accepts pricing that already includes the STC rebate and then cancels, postpones, declines installation, refuses access, or otherwise prevents the installation from being completed, JR Gas & Water may recover the full $1,000 STC rebate amount in addition to any other applicable cancellation, postponement, restocking, freight, attendance, or administrative charges.
This is because the lower advertised price was offered on the basis that JR Gas & Water would receive the benefit of the STCs after compliant completion of the installation. If the job does not proceed, that STC benefit cannot be recovered by JR Gas & Water, so the rebate amount becomes payable.
Can the Customer Keep the STCs Instead?
Yes, but not at the rebate-adjusted price.
If the customer wishes to keep, trade, or claim the STCs themselves, they must notify JR Gas & Water in writing before the order is accepted, or at the latest before installation begins. In that case, the customer must pay the full $1,000 including GST rebate amount before installation unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Heat pump hot water systems are one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat water, using ambient air to produce hot water while consuming significantly less electricity than a conventional electric storage system.
Like any appliance with refrigeration and mechanical components, regular maintenance is essential to maximise efficiency, maintain reliable performance and support your manufacturer's warranty.
Many manufacturers recommend routine inspections and servicing throughout the life of the system.
Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months
Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your heat pump system.
Homeowners should:
- Carefully operate the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
- Operate the Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (where fitted).
- Remove leaves, grass and debris from around the outdoor unit.
- Ensure the air inlet and outlet remain clear.
- Check the condensate drain is free-flowing.
- Inspect for obvious water leaks or corrosion.
- Listen for any unusual noises during operation.
Why is this important?
Heat pumps rely on unrestricted airflow to operate efficiently.
Blocked airflow, dirty coils or seized safety valves can reduce efficiency, increase electricity consumption and place unnecessary strain on the compressor.
Operating the PTR and ECV valves every six months also helps prevent mineral build-up and confirms they continue to function correctly.
Important: Always follow your manufacturer's instructions when operating safety valves, as hot water will discharge during testing. If you're unsure, contact a licensed plumber.

Why These Components Matter
Sacrificial Anode
Most vitreous enamel-lined heat pump storage tanks contain a sacrificial anode.
The anode corrodes instead of the steel tank, protecting it from internal rust.
Replacing the anode at the recommended interval can significantly extend the life of your storage tank.
Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve
The PTR valve protects the storage tank from excessive pressure and temperature.
Over time, mineral deposits may prevent the valve from operating correctly, making regular testing and replacement essential.
Expansion Control Valve (ECV)
Where fitted, the ECV controls pressure created as water expands during heating.
Maintaining the ECV helps protect both the storage tank and your home's plumbing system.
Airflow & Evaporator Coil
Unlike conventional electric systems, heat pumps rely on airflow across the evaporator coil to extract heat from the surrounding air.
Restricted airflow caused by leaves, dust or debris can:
- Reduce efficiency.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.
Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.
Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.
Disclaimer:
All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
