TOWN WATER
Moreton Bay Mains Water Test Results
9water tests
These figures come from 9 mains-water samples JR recorded in 2025–2026. They show the median (middle) reading from those tests. The samples were taken before filtration or had no confirmed filtration stage. They don't represent every home in the area or establish that water is safe to drink.
pH7.44Middle reading
Total hardness70mg/L, middle reading*
Dissolved solids (TDS)195mg/L, middle reading
Turbidity0.02NTU, middle reading
What this means for your home
Readings differed quite a bit between homes. Check your own water before choosing a filter for taste, sediment or mineral build-up.
Across the tested properties, hardness ranged from 7 to 115 mg/L, dissolved solids from 20 to 291 mg/L, and turbidity from 0.02 to 0.63 NTU. These are readings from individual properties, not a test of the whole water network.

RAINWATER TANKS
What About Rainwater Tanks?
Tank water needs its own check. Roof and gutter condition, first-flush setup, animals, tank maintenance, how long the water sits and what you use it for can all make a difference. The mains-water readings above don't apply to rainwater tanks. Treatment needs to suit the water in your tank and how you plan to use it.
01Start with the roof and tank
Check the roof and gutters, leaf screens, first-flush diverter, tank lid and overflow protection. Keeping dirt and animals out of the tank is just as important as the filter itself.
02Check your tank water
If you drink or cook with tank water, have the microbial risks assessed and arrange suitable testing. Depending on the property, you may also need to check sediment, acidity, metals, chemicals or an unusual colour or smell.
03Choose the right filters
A sediment filter can help stop particles reaching taps and other equipment. Carbon or other filter media may help with particular problems, but a cartridge filter by itself isn't a substitute for disinfection.
04Check whether UV is needed
If the water will be used for drinking, check whether a properly sized and maintained UV or another suitable disinfection system is needed. UV relies on clear enough water and a reliable power supply, and it won't remove dissolved chemicals.
Using town water and a tank? Have a licensed plumber check how the supplies switch over, backflow protection, pipework separation, flow and any treatment needed. Installing a filter doesn't automatically make tank water safe to drink.
