3 PHASE INSTANT ELECTRIC HOT WATER

Rheem Eclipse 18kW Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Rheem Eclipse 18kW 3 Phase Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The Rheem Eclipse 18kW is a compact three-phase instantaneous electric water heater designed to heat water as it passes through the appliance rather than storing hot water in a cylinder. For the right property, it provides a space-saving solution for a single bathroom or other appropriately sized application where suitable three-phase electrical capacity is available.

Current Eclipse 18kW models are available in dedicated 50Β°C and 60Β°C versions and feature an interactive touch-screen display, three temperature-memory modes, a low 2.8L/min activation flow rate, flexible connection options and automatic sleep mode.

Rheem Eclipse 18kW at a glance: models 6C318500A and 6C318600A use a 380–415V AC three-phase supply, draw approximately 26A per phase and have a published maximum flow of approximately 7.4–7.7L/min under Rheem's specified test conditions. Rheem's current sizing guide positions the 18kW model for a single bathroom where incoming cold water is 15Β°C or above. Actual performance depends on inlet temperature, outlet setting, pressure and flow demand.

PRODUCT AT A GLANCE

Rheem Eclipse 18kW Continuous Flow Electric Hot Water

18kW Output

Three-phase instantaneous electric heating for correctly sized lower-to-moderate demand applications.

26A Per Phase

Rheem specifies approximately 26 amps per phase at the unit's rated 18kW output.

Tankless Design

Heats water only while it is flowing, eliminating the need for a conventional hot water storage cylinder.

Indoor Installation

Rheem specifies the Eclipse range for indoor installation only, with an IP25 ingress-protection rating.

WHO IT SUITS

Is the Rheem Eclipse 18kW Right for Your Property?

The Eclipse 18kW is a specialised instantaneous electric system rather than a universal replacement for every home. It works best where both the electrical infrastructure and expected hot water demand suit its output.

Single-Bathroom Applications

Rheem's current sizing guidance positions the 18kW Eclipse for a single bathroom where incoming cold water is 15Β°C or above.

Apartments & Compact Homes

The small wall-mounted format can suit apartments, units, townhouses and other properties where storage space is limited and demand is appropriately matched.

Like-for-Like Replacement

A practical candidate where a comparable 18kW three-phase instantaneous electric heater is already installed and the existing circuit and plumbing remain suitable.

JR Installer Verdict: the 18kW Eclipse is strongest when used as a correctly sized single-bathroom or moderate-demand instantaneous solution. It should not be sold as an unrestricted whole-home multi-shower system simply because it is three phase.

WHEN TO CONSIDER 27KW

When Is the 18kW Eclipse Too Small?

Instantaneous electric performance depends on the relationship between heating power, water flow and temperature rise. The 18kW model has materially less heating capacity than the 27kW Eclipse.

Cold Incoming Water

Rheem's current sizing guide recommends its 27kW Eclipse models where incoming cold water is below 15Β°C for the referenced 9L/min shower application.

Higher Flow Demand

If the property expects higher shower flow or multiple outlets operating simultaneously, 18kW may not provide enough heating capacity at the required temperature.

Whole-Apartment Demand

Rheem positions the 27kW Eclipse as the stronger pathway for entire-apartment applications, while the 18kW model is positioned around a single bathroom.

JR can compare the 18kW and 27kW options against the site's electrical capacity and expected water use before the system is selected.

HOW IT WORKS

How Does the Rheem Eclipse 18kW Work?

The Eclipse heats potable water directly as it moves through the appliance. There is no meaningful stored reserve of hot water.

Hot Tap Opens

Water begins flowing through the unit. Once the flow reaches the minimum activation rate, the heater starts operating automatically.

Elements Energise

The Eclipse uses nickel-chrome electric heating elements to transfer electrical energy directly into the moving water.

Temperature Is Controlled

Electronic controls regulate the heating process around the selected outlet temperature and available operating conditions.

No storage recovery time β€” but also no stored reserve. Hot water is produced while water flows. Maximum useful flow is therefore limited by the heater's 18kW output and the temperature rise required at that moment.

VERIFIED FEATURES

Key Features of the Rheem Eclipse 18kW

18kW rated heating input using a three-phase electrical connection.
Interactive touch-screen interface for temperature selection and operating information.
Three temperature memory modes for quick access to commonly used settings.
Water-flow and consumption display shown through the Eclipse user interface.
2.8L/min minimum activation flow suited to lower-flow operation than many older instantaneous units.
Automatic sleep mode reducing display activity while the water heater is not in use.
Flexible connection arrangement allowing services to be concealed through the wall or connected from below.
IP25 ingress protection for installation in accordance with Rheem's specified requirements.

TEMPERATURE OPTIONS

Rheem Eclipse 18kW 50Β°C vs 60Β°C Models

Rheem produces separate 50Β°C and 60Β°C versions of the 18kW Eclipse. Choosing the correct model depends on the outlets being supplied and the design of the plumbing installation.

Specification 18kW 50Β°C 18kW 60Β°C
Model 6C318500A 6C318600A
Rated Power 18kW 18kW
Electrical Supply 380–415V AC 3 Phase 380–415V AC 3 Phase
Rated Current 26A/phase 26A/phase
Nominal Maximum Outlet 50Β°C appliance 60Β°C appliance
Published Control Range 30–55Β°C with temperatures above 50Β°C trade-adjustable for permitted heat-loss compensation; appliance delivery is limited in accordance with its 50Β°C approval. 30–60Β°C
Application Direction Useful where a 50Β°C appliance configuration suits the outlets and plumbing design. Useful where a higher appliance outlet temperature is required and the complete installation provides appropriate delivery-temperature control where necessary.
Do not choose the 60Β°C model simply because the number is higher. The correct model depends on what outlets are being supplied and how the complete plumbing system is designed.

TOUCH-SCREEN CONTROL

Three Temperature Memory Modes

The Eclipse user interface provides three quick-access temperature memories so frequently used settings can be recalled without repeatedly entering the same temperature.

Memory 1

A programmable quick-access temperature setting for a frequently used hot water temperature.

Memory 2

A second independent preset for another commonly used temperature.

Bath Mode

A dedicated temperature memory that can be configured for bath, child or pet applications within the permitted setting range.

Bath Mode controls temperature β€” not fill volume. It should not be confused with an automatic bath-fill controller that measures litres and shuts off a programmed fill.

FLOW & PERFORMANCE

How Much Hot Water Can an 18kW Instant Electric System Deliver?

The published litres-per-minute figure is not the whole story. The amount of water an instantaneous heater can raise to a particular outlet temperature depends on how much temperature rise is required.

Warmer Incoming Water

A smaller temperature rise requires less energy per litre, allowing the same 18kW heater to support more usable flow.

Colder Incoming Water

As incoming water gets colder, more heating power is needed for every litre. Available hot water flow at the target temperature falls.

Higher Set Temperature

Selecting a hotter outlet temperature also increases the required temperature rise and reduces the flow the heater can heat to that set point.

Rheem sizing guidance: using a 9L/min shower as its reference application, Rheem recommends the 18kW or 27kW Eclipse where incoming water is 15Β°C or above. Where incoming water is below 15Β°C, its current guide specifies the 27kW models.

ONE SHOWER OR MULTIPLE OUTLETS?

Can the Rheem Eclipse 18kW Run Multiple Showers?

The 18kW Eclipse should primarily be viewed as a single-bathroom-class instantaneous heater rather than a high-demand multi-shower system.

Its published maximum flow of approximately 7.4–7.7L/min is measured under specific supply conditions, and the maximum flow that can actually reach a chosen hot water temperature can be lower when a larger temperature rise is required.

Single Shower

This is the manufacturer's clearest application direction for the 18kW unit when climate and incoming water temperature suit it.

Shower Plus Another Outlet

Simultaneous use divides the available heating capacity and can affect temperature or flow. Actual demand should be assessed before relying on several outlets together.

Two Showers

For heavier simultaneous bathroom demand, the 27kW model or another hot water technology should be considered rather than assuming the 18kW model will provide unrestricted performance.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install a Rheem Eclipse 18kW?

Although the 18kW Eclipse requires less current than the 27kW version, it is still a substantial electrical load and requires proper three-phase infrastructure.

Suitable three-phase electricity supply with adequate available capacity after the property's other electrical loads are considered.
Dedicated fixed wiring correctly sized for the 18kW water heater and installation conditions.
Appropriate circuit protection and isolation installed in accordance with the current electrical requirements and Rheem instructions.
Suitable indoor mounting position with access for operation and future servicing.
Adequate water pressure to meet the flow requirements of the selected application.
Pressure control where required so supply pressure does not exceed the manufacturer's permitted maximum.
Suitable pipe sizing so unnecessary plumbing restrictions do not reduce available flow.
Licensed plumbing and electrical installation followed by correct testing and commissioning.

Having three-phase power at the property does not automatically mean the Eclipse can be connected without further work. Available capacity, switchboard configuration, circuit protection and the required cable run still need to be assessed.

INSTALLATION LOCATION

Where Can the Rheem Eclipse 18kW Be Installed?

Rheem specifies the Eclipse continuous-flow electric range for indoor installation only. The unit is designed for vertical wall mounting with its electrical and water services connected through the lower section of the appliance.

At only approximately 470mm high, 226mm wide and 95mm deep, it has a much smaller physical footprint than a conventional storage cylinder.

Bathroom Applications

Rheem specifically positions the 18kW model for single-bathroom applications where the local water temperature and required flow suit the unit.

Close to the Outlet

Locating the heater reasonably close to the primary hot water use can reduce the amount of cooled water sitting in long pipe runs.

Accessible for Servicing

The installation location needs to leave the unit accessible for future inspection, testing and servicing.

JR INSTALLATION

What's Included With Rheem Eclipse 18kW Installation?

JR's live product and installation selector above shows the current available packages and pricing. The actual scope depends heavily on whether the installation is a straightforward replacement or requires new plumbing and electrical infrastructure.

Water Heater Supply

Supply of the applicable Rheem Eclipse 18kW unit as part of the selected JR installation option.

Plumbing Installation

Connection to suitable water services and completion of the plumbing work included in the chosen installation package.

Electrical Installation

Connection to appropriate electrical services or completion of the electrical work included in the selected package.

Testing & Commissioning

The installed water heater is commissioned and checked for correct operation before handover.

Installation package matters. Replacing an existing compatible 18kW three-phase unit with suitable wiring is very different from converting a property from a normal storage water heater and creating an entirely new three-phase instantaneous circuit.

CURRENT INSTALLED PRICING

How Much Does Rheem Eclipse 18kW Installation Cost?

Current supplied-and-installed pricing is shown in the live installation selector above. The price depends largely on what electrical and plumbing infrastructure is already present.

Like-for-Like Replacement

Replacing a comparable existing three-phase instantaneous heater is generally simpler where its circuit, switchboard capacity and water services are suitable.

Electrical Changes

New cabling, protection, isolation or switchboard modifications can significantly change the installation scope.

System Conversion

Converting from storage electric, heat pump, gas or another system type can require substantially more installation work than a direct replacement.

MODEL COMPARISON

Rheem Eclipse 18kW vs 27kW

Specification Eclipse 18kW Eclipse 27kW
Rated Power 18kW 27kW
Electrical Supply 3 Phase 3 Phase
Rated Current 26A/phase 37.6A/phase
Published Maximum Flow 7.4–7.7L/min under specified conditions 12L/min nominal maximum
Activation Flow 2.8L/min 2.8L/min
Heating Elements 3 4
Rheem Application Direction Single bathroom where incoming water is 15Β°C or above Higher-demand and entire-apartment applications, subject to sizing conditions
Main Advantage Lower electrical demand than the 27kW model where 18kW provides sufficient hot water capacity. Greater heating capacity and flow potential where the property can support the higher electrical load.
The 27kW is not automatically better. If the 18kW model meets the required flow and temperature rise, installing more electrical heating capacity than the application needs may provide little practical benefit. Equally, choosing 18kW where demand really requires 27kW can lead to disappointing flow performance.

REPLACEMENT COMPATIBILITY

Can the Rheem Eclipse 18kW Replace My Existing Hot Water System?

Yes in suitable applications, but how straightforward the changeover is depends on the system being replaced.

Existing 18kW Instant Electric

A comparable three-phase instantaneous replacement may be relatively straightforward where the existing electrical circuit, plumbing and mounting position suit the Eclipse.

Different Instant Electric Unit

Changing between brands or models can still require alterations because electrical current, cable requirements, pipe connection positions and flow characteristics vary.

Storage System Conversion

Replacing a normal electric storage, heat pump or gas water heater with an 18kW Eclipse can require a completely different high-current electrical and plumbing arrangement.

Check the electrical pathway before buying the unit. Where major three-phase or switchboard upgrades are needed, an electric storage system or heat pump may offer a more practical whole-home solution.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Rheem Eclipse 18kW Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Rheem Eclipse 18kW across eligible Brisbane service areas for properties where the electrical infrastructure, water temperature and required flow make an 18kW instantaneous system suitable.

Brisbane's generally warmer climate can make an 18kW instantaneous system more practical than it would be in colder regions because the appliance often has a smaller temperature rise to produce. Actual cold-water temperature still varies, so the application should be checked rather than assumed from location alone.

The 18kW Eclipse can be particularly relevant for apartment, townhouse and single-bathroom applications where compact indoor installation is important and a suitable three-phase supply already exists.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Rheem Eclipse 18kW Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water provides Rheem Eclipse 18kW installation across eligible Gold Coast service areas for suitable homes, apartments and other properties requiring compact three-phase electric instantaneous hot water.

For a single bathroom with appropriate incoming water temperature and realistic flow expectations, the 18kW model can provide a smaller electrical-load alternative to the 27kW Eclipse while retaining the same compact format and touch-screen control platform.

Where the property requires several simultaneous outlets or stronger peak hot water performance, JR can compare the 27kW Eclipse or alternative storage and heat pump systems before the installation is selected.

WARRANTY & OWNERSHIP

Rheem Eclipse Warranty & Ongoing Ownership

Rheem's current Eclipse material lists a 5-year residential warranty for the range, subject to the manufacturer's full warranty conditions. Commercial applications have different coverage, currently listed as one year in Rheem's Eclipse product material.

Warranty eligibility depends on the water heater being installed, operated and maintained in accordance with Rheem's requirements and the applicable installation standards.

Manufacturer warranty conditions apply. Always refer to the current Rheem warranty supplied with the actual Eclipse unit for complete component, labour, residential and commercial coverage conditions.

Gas continuous flow hot water systems provide hot water on demand, heating water only as it passes through the appliance. With no storage tank, these systems are highly efficient and can provide an endless supply of hot water when correctly sized and maintained.

Like any gas appliance, regular maintenance is recommended to ensure safe operation, maintain peak efficiency and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months

Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your continuous flow hot water system.

Homeowners should:

  • Check for water leaks around the unit and pipework.
  • Ensure the gas supply is turned on.
  • Keep the area around the appliance free from leaves, dirt and debris.
  • Ensure the air intake and flue terminal remain unobstructed.
  • Inspect visible pipework for corrosion or damage.
  • Listen for unusual noises during operation.
  • Confirm the unit is producing hot water at the correct temperature.

Why is this important?

Gas continuous flow systems rely on unrestricted airflow and proper gas combustion to operate safely and efficiently.

Blocked vents, debris, water leaks or damaged pipework can reduce performance, increase gas consumption and potentially lead to system faults.

Regular visual inspections help identify problems before they become expensive repairs.

Early servicing can often prevent costly repairs and keep your hot water system operating reliably.

Protect Your Warranty & Maximise System Life

Routine maintenance helps keep your gas continuous flow hot water system operating safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule may also assist in maintaining warranty coverage.

Failure to maintain your system may result in:

  • Reduced heating efficiency.
  • Increased gas consumption.
  • Ignition or burner faults.
  • Heat exchanger damage.
  • Unexpected loss of hot water.
  • Shortened component lifespan.
  • Possible reduction or loss of manufacturer warranty, depending on the manufacturer's maintenance requirements.

Preventative maintenance is a cost-effective way to protect your investment, maintain efficient operation and maximise the life of your gas continuous flow hot water system.
