The current HYBRID-E13AMC-LF is designed primarily for whole-house rainwater treatment and can also filter mains water where the property uses a mains-water backup arrangement. How Does the Puretec Hybrid E13 AMC Work?
Water first enters the sediment stage, which reduces suspended material. It then passes through the carbon block for chlorine, chemical, taste, odour and colour reduction, followed by the one-micron fine sediment cartridge.
Pre-filtration is important because suspended particles and poor water clarity can interfere with ultraviolet treatment by shielding microorganisms from the UV light. Once the water has passed through the cartridges, it enters the Radfire UV chamber for the final microbiological treatment stage.
Treatment pathway: rainwater or correctly configured mains backup → 5-micron sediment → carbon block → 1-micron sediment → Radfire UV chamber → filtered water supplied throughout the home.
Understanding Flow Rate & UV Dose
Puretec publishes a 120 L/min maximum flow rate for the Hybrid E13 AMC as a complete system. That figure should not be confused with the different flow rates published for specific ultraviolet dose levels.

The correct design flow should therefore be based on the household's peak demand and the UV treatment objective rather than treating 120 L/min as a universal microbiological-treatment figure.

Pressure-documentation note: Puretec's current product webpage states pressure limiting above 520 kPa, while the current 2026 installation guide states above 500 kPa. JR should apply the current installation-guide requirement and site-specific plumbing requirements when completing the installation.
WATER QUALITY REQUIREMENTS
Why Rainwater Quality Matters Before UV Treatment
Ultraviolet treatment works properly only when enough UV light can pass through the water. Puretec therefore publishes maximum recommended water-quality parameters for the Hybrid E range and states that additional pre-treatment may be required where those limits are exceeded.

If the incoming rainwater falls outside these conditions, extra filtration or other treatment may be necessary before the Hybrid E13 AMC. This is particularly relevant where tanks have heavy sediment, iron staining, manganese, poor clarity or other unusual water-quality issues.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
What Is Required to Install the Puretec HYBRID-E13AMC?
Structurally appropriate wall mounting capable of supporting the system and connected plumbing without placing strain on the filter assembly.
Approximately 700mm servicing clearance above the system so the UV lamp and quartz sleeve can be removed.
At least 120mm below the housings so the 20-inch filter bowls and cartridges can be removed for servicing.
Suitable drainage in a position where water released during servicing or an unexpected leak will not cause property damage.
Cold-water installation only with incoming water temperature kept within the manufacturer's stated range.
Correct pump and flow performance where the property relies on a rainwater pressure pump.
240V / 50Hz electrical supply positioned suitably for the UV controller and protected in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.
Surge protection. Puretec supplies a surge protector and states that suitable surge protection is required; the supplied protector itself is not weatherproof.
Approved pressure limiting where line pressure exceeds the applicable manufacturer and plumbing requirement.

Rainwater, Pump & Mains-Backup Compatibility
The Hybrid E13 AMC is designed around whole-house rainwater treatment and Puretec also promotes the model for properties using mains-water backup. The filtration unit itself is only one part of that installation.
The tank, rainwater pump, rain-to-mains switching arrangement, incoming pressure, peak household flow and plumbing configuration all need to work together. A filtration system rated for high flow cannot correct an undersized or failing rainwater pump.
Existing Rainwater Pump
JR should confirm that the existing pump can provide suitable pressure and flow through the filtration system while remaining within Puretec's operating limits.
Mains-Water Backup
Where town water backs up the rainwater supply, the switching arrangement and pressure conditions should be assessed as part of the complete installation rather than assuming the filter itself controls the water source.

Commissioning & Setup

A property that already has a suitable tank, pump, power point and accessible 25mm supply line will usually require a different installation scope from a site needing pump upgrades, pressure correction or substantial rainwater-plumbing alterations.

Puretec HYBRID-E13AMC Installation Brisbane
JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Puretec HYBRID-E13AMC in Brisbane for suitable homes using rainwater internally, mixed rainwater-and-mains systems and properties where UV treatment forms part of the required water-treatment approach.
Brisbane rainwater installations vary significantly depending on whether the tank supplies the full home, toilets and laundry only or selected outlets. Pump condition, tank cleanliness and the existing switching arrangement should therefore be checked before treating the job as a simple filtration add-on.
The E13 AMC also requires substantial servicing clearance above the cabinet. On homes where tanks, pumps, air-conditioning equipment or fences already occupy the side service area, JR can assess whether the preferred location still allows future cartridge, UV lamp and quartz-sleeve maintenance.

The Gold Coast installation position deserves particular attention on properties exposed to coastal conditions. Puretec instructs that Hybrid E systems should be protected from harsh environments where excessive salt or aggressive chemical exposure can occur, so the most convenient external wall is not automatically the best long-term position.
Properties using rainwater for several bathrooms can also have substantial peak-flow requirements. JR can assess the pump, pipe size and household demand together so the filtration system is not selected independently of the hydraulic performance of the rest of the rainwater setup.

The E13 AMC is not automatically required for every rainwater property. The right model depends on sediment load, desired filtration stages, household flow requirement, installation environment and whether the enclosed cabinet is valuable at the proposed location.
Puretec HYBRID-E13AMC Maintenance
A UV rainwater system is not a set-and-forget appliance. The cartridges, UV lamp, quartz sleeve and seals need ongoing attention so the filtration and ultraviolet stages continue operating as intended.
Cartridges: 6–12 Months
Puretec's current maintenance guide recommends cartridge replacement every 6–12 months depending on water quality and usage. Heavy sediment loads or reduced flow can require earlier replacement.
UV Lamp: Every 12 Months
The RL7 ultraviolet lamp has a rated life of 365 days. The electronic controller provides a countdown and alarm to indicate when lamp replacement is due.
Quartz Sleeve: Inspect Regularly
Puretec recommends checking the quartz sleeve for build-up roughly every three months depending on the water source and cleaning or replacing it when required.
