PURETEC WHOLE-HOUSE RAINWATER FILTRATION

Puretec EM2-60 Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Puretec EM2-60 whole-house rainwater filter across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The current Puretec EM2-60-LF is a compact dual-stage whole-house filtration system designed primarily for rainwater. It filters water before it enters the home or building so connected taps, showers, laundries and appliances receive filtered water throughout the property.

The system combines a 5-micron washable pleated sediment cartridge with a dual-purpose carbon cartridge. This gives the EM2-60 both sediment filtration and carbon treatment for reducing unpleasant taste, odour and selected chemicals.

Puretec EM2-60 at a glance: EM2-60-LF, dual 10-inch housings, PL05MP1 5-micron washable pleated sediment cartridge, DP10MP1 10-micron dual-purpose carbon cartridge, 60 L/min maximum flow, 200–520kPa operating pressure, 0–52°C temperature range, 1" BSP / 25mm connections, gravity-feed capable, no power required, UV pre-filtration compatible and current 10-year Puretec warranty.

Puretec EM2-60 Supply & Installation at a Glance

60 L/min Maximum Flow

Puretec rates the EM2-60 at up to approximately 60 litres per minute.

Sediment + Carbon Filtration

A washable sediment stage is followed by a dual-purpose carbon cartridge for broader whole-house treatment.

1" Main-Line Connection

The system uses 1-inch BSP / 25mm connections for whole-property plumbing integration.

No Power Required

The EM2-60 is a passive filtration system with no electrical motor, controller or powered treatment process.

What Is the Puretec EM2-60?

The Puretec EM2-60 is a dual-stage point-of-entry filtration system designed to treat rainwater and other suitable water supplies before water is distributed throughout the home or building.

Unlike an under-sink drinking-water filter, the EM2-60 is installed on the main incoming water line.

This means filtration applies to multiple connected outlets rather than only one kitchen faucet.

Puretec positions the EM2 series as whole-house filtration that provides useful flow while helping reduce sediment, sludge and other unwanted material entering the plumbing system.

How Does the Puretec EM2-60 Filter Water?

Stage 1 – PL05MP1 5 Micron

The first stage uses the Puretec PL05MP1 pleated sediment cartridge. It provides nominal 5-micron filtration and is designed to reduce dirt, rust, algae and suspended sediment before water reaches the carbon stage.

Stage 2 – DP10MP1 Carbon Filtration

The second stage uses the Puretec DP10MP1 dual-purpose cartridge. Puretec lists this cartridge at nominal 10 micron and positions it for sediment reduction together with carbon treatment for taste, odour and selected chemicals.

The first-stage pleated cartridge therefore handles finer primary sediment filtration, while the second-stage dual-purpose cartridge adds carbon treatment to the system.

Why Choose the Puretec EM2-60?

Whole-House Filtration

The system treats water before distribution through the home rather than filtering only one drinking-water outlet.

60 L/min Flow

The compact 10-inch system provides useful whole-house flow for appropriately sized residential properties.

Sediment + Carbon Treatment

The combination of PL05MP1 and DP10MP1 provides both particulate reduction and carbon treatment.

Heavy-Duty Housings

Puretec uses heavy-duty housings designed for whole-house protection and ongoing cartridge servicing.

Integrated Aluminium Bracket

The system uses Puretec's rust-resistant anti-flex aluminium wall-mount bracket.

UV Pre-Filtration Compatible

The EM2-60 can be used as the pre-filtration stage ahead of an appropriately selected ultraviolet disinfection system.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Puretec EM2-60 Right for Your Property?

A Good Choice If...

You want a compact whole-house rainwater system combining 5-micron sediment filtration with carbon treatment and approximately 60 L/min maximum flow.

Consider the EM2-75 If...

You want greater flow and finer final sediment filtration and do not require a dedicated carbon stage.

Consider the EM2-100 If...

You want a similar sediment-and-carbon treatment concept with larger 20-inch housings and up to approximately 100 L/min flow.

Suitable Water Sources

Puretec specifically designs the EM2-60 for rainwater.

The current manufacturer listing also states that the system can be used on mains, river, dam and bore water where suitable.

This does not mean the EM2-60 automatically makes every untreated source safe for drinking.

Rainwater, river water, dam water and bore water may require additional treatment depending on microbiological contamination, minerals, metals, hardness, pH and other water-quality conditions.

The EM2-60 should therefore be selected as one part of the overall treatment system where additional treatment is necessary.

Puretec describes the completed EM2-60 as a 5-micron sediment-and-carbon system. The actual cartridge sequence is PL05MP1 at nominal 5 micron followed by DP10MP1, which Puretec separately lists as a nominal 10-micron dual-purpose carbon cartridge.

60 L/min Whole-House Flow

Puretec publishes approximately 60 L/min maximum flow for the EM2-60.

This makes the system suitable for appropriately sized residential whole-house applications where the property's peak flow demand remains within that range.

The actual flow available at taps and appliances still depends on pump performance, source pressure, pipe diameter, elevation, cartridge condition and pressure loss through the complete plumbing system.

The 60 L/min figure should therefore be treated as the filter's maximum published flow rating rather than guaranteed fixture flow under every installation condition.

1-Inch Main-Line Connection

The EM2-60 uses 1-inch BSP / 25mm connections.

This can suit many residential rainwater and whole-house plumbing systems already using 25mm main-line pipework.

The discontinued EM2-65 used similar sediment-and-carbon filtration with a larger 1½-inch connection, while the current EM2-100 provides substantially greater flow using larger 20-inch housings.

The correct model should be selected around actual pipe size, peak demand and filtration goals.

No Power Required

The EM2-60 itself requires no electrical supply.

Water passes through the filter using pressure from the rainwater pump, mains supply or suitable gravity-fed source.

There are no motors, electronic controllers or powered filtration components within the system.

If the EM2-60 is paired with ultraviolet disinfection, the separate UV equipment will require electricity even though the filter itself does not.

Gravity-Feed Capability

Puretec identifies the EM2 series as capable of operating on gravity-feed pressure.

Gravity-feed compatibility does not mean the filter automatically delivers 60 L/min without a pump.

Available flow depends on tank height, static head, pipe size, pipe length, fittings and the pressure loss through the cartridges.

Where strong household water pressure is required, the complete tank, pump, filter and pipework arrangement needs to be considered together.

Suitable as UV Pre-Filtration

Puretec specifically identifies the EM2-60 as suitable for UV system pre-filtration.

This can be particularly useful on rainwater systems where sediment and turbidity should be reduced before the water enters an ultraviolet disinfection chamber.

The EM2-60 can therefore provide sediment and carbon treatment as part of a broader rainwater treatment package.

The EM2-60 itself does not kill bacteria or viruses.

What Does the Puretec EM2-60 Reduce?

The EM2-60 combines mechanical sediment filtration with carbon treatment.

Dirt
Rust
Algae and suspended material
Sediment
Sludge
Unpleasant taste
Odour
Selected chemicals addressed by the carbon media

Puretec specifically advertises the EM2-60 for reduction of taste, odours and chemicals.

The system should not be marketed as a water softener, reverse-osmosis system or standalone microbiological disinfection system.

Protecting Plumbing and Appliances

Whole-house filtration can reduce the amount of sediment and sludge reaching taps, valves, showers and connected appliances.

Puretec specifically positions the EM2 range as helping protect appliances and prolong the life of ceramic-disc tapware by reducing particulate contamination throughout the water system.

The carbon stage also provides broader water-quality treatment where unwanted taste, odour or carbon-treatable chemicals are present.

Cartridge Replacement and Maintenance

The EM2-60 uses genuine PL05MP1 and DP10MP1 replacement cartridges.

Puretec also offers the GR-EM260 Premium Care Kit specifically for EM2-60 systems.

The PL05MP1 pleated sediment cartridge is washable and may be cleaned where it remains suitable for continued service.

The DP10MP1 carbon cartridge is a consumable treatment cartridge and should be replaced rather than treated as a permanently washable filter.

Actual cartridge life depends on water quality, sediment loading, usage, pressure drop and carbon-treatment performance.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Puretec EM2-60?

Suitable incoming water source
Adequate structural mounting location
Correct 1" main-line plumbing arrangement
Suitable isolation valves
Pressure between approximately 200 and 520kPa
Temperature between approximately 0 and 52°C
Clearance beneath housings for cartridge servicing
Suitable bypass arrangement where required
Correct flow direction
Protection from freezing
Leak and pressure checks after installation
Access for future cartridge replacement

Why Servicing Clearance Matters

The EM2-60 uses two cartridge housings that need to be opened during future servicing.

The installation therefore needs adequate clearance below and around the unit so the filter bowls and cartridges can be removed.

Mounting the system too close to the ground, a pump, tank, wall return or other equipment can make routine cartridge replacement unnecessarily difficult.

JR considers future service access when choosing the final mounting position.

Can the Puretec EM2-60 Replace My Existing Whole-House Filter?

Replacing Another EM2-60

Usually the simplest pathway where the existing 1-inch plumbing, mounting position and service clearance remain suitable.

Replacing a Sediment-Only Filter

The EM2-60 adds a carbon-treatment stage, changing both the treatment capability and future cartridge servicing requirements.

Replacing an EM2-75

The EM2-60 provides carbon treatment but has lower maximum flow and less-fine final sediment filtration than the EM2-75.

New Rainwater Filtration

A new system should be designed around the tank, pump, peak household demand, main plumbing and any downstream UV treatment.

Adding UV Treatment

The EM2-60 can form the filtration stage ahead of a suitable UV system where microbiological disinfection is required.

Changing Water Source

Bore, river and dam water should be assessed for contaminants beyond sediment and carbon-treatable compounds before assuming the EM2-60 alone is adequate.
