    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water offers the Emerald All-In-One Hot Water Heat Pump Select 320L E-Heat for households wanting a large-capacity integrated heat pump with built-in Wi-Fi, a backup electric heating element and simple smart control.

The exact current residential model is HPA1-S320E. It combines a 320 litre enamel-lined storage cylinder, fixed-speed heat-pump technology, R290 refrigerant and a 1.0kW electric heating element within one all-in-one appliance.

Emerald's September 2026 data sheet publishes 2.8kW heat-pump heating capacity, 0.63kW rated input, COP 4.41 and 58L/h recharge in Standard mode. In Boost mode, the heat pump and 1.0kW element provide 3.8kW combined heating capacity and 79L/h recharge.

JR's current product guide positions the 320L Select around the 6–7 person household range. Actual suitability still depends on shower duration, bath use, simultaneous outlets and how heavily hot water is used during peak periods.

Quick answer: the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat is model HPA1-S320E with 320L storage, a 1.0kW backup element, COP 4.41, 58L/h Standard recharge, 79L/h Boost recharge, built-in Wi-Fi, R290 refrigerant and a 600 × 600mm footprint.

CURRENT PRODUCT STATUS

Is the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Available?

JR's current live product page still identifies the Emerald Select 320L E-Heater as Coming Soon / Preorder and displays an estimated arrival of September 2026.

Emerald's current September 2026 manufacturer data sheet now includes the HPA1-S320E in the formal Select specification table, so detailed technical data is available even though JR's live retail listing still shows preorder status.

Availability can change quickly: use JR's live product area above for current stock, release status, installation packages and booking availability rather than hard-coding availability into this long-form description.

How Does the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Work?

The Select uses an integrated heat-pump refrigeration system to absorb thermal energy from surrounding air and transfer that heat into water stored inside its 320 litre cylinder.

Unlike the Emerald Pro range, the current Select range uses fixed-speed compressor technology. Standard mode uses the heat pump for normal water heating, while Boost mode on the HPA1-S320E combines heat-pump operation with its 1.0kW electric element.

E-Heater mode allows the 1.0kW element to operate as the heating source. Emerald identifies Boost and E-Heater as one-shot functions that reset back to Standard operation.

How it works: surrounding air supplies heat energy → the R290 heat pump transfers that energy into the 320L tank → Standard mode handles normal heating → Boost adds the 1.0kW element for faster recovery when selected.

Emerald Select 320L Operating Modes

Mode Heating Capacity Rated Input Heat-Pump COP Recharge Rate
Standard 2.8kW heat pump 0.63kW 4.41 58L/h
Boost 3.8kW combined 1.63kW total published input 4.41 heat-pump COP 79L/h
E-Heater 1.0kW electric element 1.0kW Not applicable 21L/h

Standard mode is the normal heat-pump operating mode. Boost prioritises faster recovery by combining the heat pump and element, while E-Heater provides resistance-element-only heating when selected.

Key Features of the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat

R290 Refrigerant

The HPA1-S320E uses a 500g R290 refrigerant charge. Emerald publishes a global warming potential of 3 for R290.

1.0kW Backup Element

The E version adds a 1.0kW electric element for Boost and E-Heater operating modes.

Built-In Wi-Fi

Emerald App connectivity provides compatible remote control and monitoring features.

Galvanised Outer Casing

The Select uses galvanised sheet-metal external construction rather than the stainless-steel casing claimed in some older copy.

Enamel Inner Tank

The storage cylinder is enamel-lined steel with a sacrificial magnesium anode for internal corrosion protection.

Fixed-Speed Technology

The Select uses fixed-speed heat-pump technology, distinguishing it from Emerald's DC-inverter Pro range.

Emerald App, Wi-Fi & Solar Soaker

The Select platform includes built-in Wi-Fi and connects to the Emerald App for compatible remote control and monitoring functions.

Emerald also supports Solar Soaker. When paired with the required Electricity Advisor Wi-Fi equipment, surplus solar energy can be detected and used to trigger compatible heat-pump operation.

This does not mean the hot-water system directly connects to rooftop solar panels. The home's solar PV system produces electricity, while compatible Emerald smart equipment helps determine when the heat pump should run.

App features can change: Emerald updates its software over time, so the current Emerald App should remain the reference for available monitoring, control and automation functions.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat?

Suitable all-in-one location with room for the 600mm × 600mm footprint and approximately 2195mm appliance height.

Minimum 300mm head clearance where required by the current manufacturer installation layout.

At least 600mm clearance at the fan exhaust side to support correct discharge airflow.

At least 150mm clearance at the fan intake side under the current Emerald installation instructions.

At least 20m³ unobstructed surrounding space for the normal clearance arrangement.

Condensate and overflow drainage routed to appropriate discharge locations.

Solid load-bearing base capable of supporting more than 400kg once the system is installed and filled.

Suitable base construction such as a minimum 50mm concrete plinth or manufacturer-approved alternative.

Electrical circuit appropriate for an E model, with Emerald currently requiring a minimum 16A circuit breaker for electric-element models.

RCD/RCBO and compliant electrical isolation in accordance with the current manufacturer instructions and applicable electrical standards.

Pressure control, safety valves and tempering selected and commissioned for the property.

Future service access to the controller, electrical components, plumbing, TPR valve and sacrificial anode.

Indoor installation: Emerald's current installation manual says a 320L Select installed indoors should have an indoor area of at least 43m² unless the alternative permanent-open-door or mechanical-ventilation requirements are met. The unit uses flammable R290 refrigerant, so indoor siting requires specific ventilation and ignition-source assessment.

What's Included With Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Installation?

Standard Installation

The selected JR installation package covers the applicable standard labour and materials where the existing services, access and proposed system location meet the package conditions.

Commissioning

The appliance is filled and commissioned, with normal plumbing, electrical, heat-pump, safety-valve and controller operation checked before completion.

Possible Additional Work

Electrical upgrades, circuit work, pressure-control changes, additional valves, drainage, new bases, relocation, access work or other site-specific requirements can change the final scope.

How Much Does Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Installation Cost?

Current product pricing, preorder status and installation-package pricing should remain in JR's live product and installation selector above. This keeps changing prices, availability and installation options connected to the live Shopify product.

Final installation cost depends on the system being replaced, electrical circuit, plumbing layout, valves, pressure control, drainage, support base, access and whether the existing hot-water position meets the Select's airflow requirements.

STC treatment should also remain live. Eligibility and certificate value depend on the exact approved model, installation date, property and completed installation rather than the product category alone.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water can supply and install the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat in Brisbane for eligible properties once stock is available through JR's live product system.

The 320L model needs more vertical room than the smaller Select units, with Emerald's current specification listing a 2195mm appliance height. That makes overhead clearance, eaves, access routes and the finished base important parts of the Brisbane site assessment.

Where the property is replacing an older electric storage cylinder, the existing location may provide a useful starting point, but airflow, condensate drainage and electrical capacity still need to be checked for heat-pump operation.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Emerald Select 320L E-Heat Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water can also install the Emerald Select 320L E-Heat on the Gold Coast for eligible properties once current stock is released.

Gold Coast positioning should consider fan intake and exhaust clearances, condensate drainage, weather exposure and proximity to bedrooms or neighbouring living areas.

The Select's outer casing is galvanised sheet metal rather than stainless steel, so the final position and ongoing care should follow Emerald's manufacturer instructions rather than assuming the appliance is specifically designed for direct salt exposure.

Can the Emerald Select 320L Replace My Existing Hot Water System?

Replacing Electric Storage

This can be a practical upgrade where the existing site has enough room, suitable drainage and an electrical circuit that can be configured for the E-Heater model.

Replacing Another Heat Pump

An existing heat pump can potentially be replaced with the Select, but dimensions, airflow, circuit protection and drainage should still be reassessed.

Replacing Gas Hot Water

A gas-to-heat-pump conversion normally requires electrical provision and changed plumbing together with appropriate work to the redundant gas hot-water installation.

Replacing Solar Hot Water

A solar-hot-water conversion may involve the existing tank, roof collectors, solar pipework, booster wiring and removal requirements, so the final scope can differ substantially from a standard replacement.

Emerald Select 320L E-Heat vs Emerald Pro 320L E-Heater

The Select and Pro both offer 320L E-Heater configurations, but Emerald positions them as different platforms. The Select focuses on straightforward fixed-speed operation and value, while the Pro uses DC inverter technology and a larger backup element.

Emerald Select 320L Efficiency & Hot Water Performance

Emerald publishes COP 4.41 for the HPA1-S320E in Standard heat-pump-only operation under its stated laboratory test condition of 20°C/15°C ambient air with water heated from 15°C to 55°C.

Standard mode provides a published recharge rate of 58L/h. Selecting Boost adds the electric element and increases published recovery to 79L/h in Emerald's September 2026 model data.

Emerald's February 2026 comparison guide rounds the Select element-model Boost recharge figure to 80L/h. The newer September 2026 exact model data lists 79L/h, so 79L/h is used as the current exact HPA1-S320E specification.

Performance takeaway: Standard mode prioritises normal heat-pump operation at COP 4.41 and 58L/h recharge. Boost adds the 1.0kW element for faster 79L/h recovery, while E-Heater mode provides element-only heating at 21L/h.

Emerald Select 320L Warranty & Maintenance

5-Year Standard Tank Warranty

Emerald's current Queensland residential Select warranty provides five years on the tank as standard.

6 Years When Registered

Eligible residential customers can receive six years tank coverage when the system is registered with Emerald within three months of installation.

5-Year System / 2-Year Labour

For Queensland residential Select installations, Emerald currently provides five years on the system and two years labour, subject to the full warranty conditions.

The enamel tank uses a sacrificial magnesium anode. Emerald's current installation manual says the anode should be inspected within the first 12 months and every 1–2 years thereafter, with frequency depending on water quality.

Emerald also recommends manually operating the TPR valve every six months and periodically flushing the tank, generally every 12–24 months under normal water-quality conditions.

Warranty maintenance matters: Emerald states that tank failure caused by a depleted or unmaintained sacrificial anode is not treated as a manufacturing defect and can affect cylinder warranty coverage.

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It’s part of the Australian Government’s Renewable Energy Target program, created to reward Australians who install eligible energy-efficient systems, such as heat pump or solar hot water systems. When a system like this is installed, it’s awarded a certain number of certificates based on its efficiency, the location of installation, and the amount of renewable energy it’s expected to produce or offset over time. Each certificate holds a monetary value, which acts as an upfront rebate.

How Do STC Rebates Work?

Rather than applying for the rebate after installation, JR Gas & Water includes the value of the STCs directly in the price shown on each product page. This means what you see is the final out-of-pocket cost to you — no separate rebate forms, no waiting, no surprises. We claim the STCs on your behalf and handle the paperwork behind the scenes so that your purchase is smooth, simple, and fully compliant.

Who Is Eligible?

You’re generally eligible for STCs if you’re installing a new, approved system at a residential or small business property within Australia. The installation must be completed by a qualified installer, and the system must meet current Australian standards. All heat pumps and solar hot water systems sold and installed by JR Gas & Water are STC-approved, and our team ensures each installation qualifies properly.

Final Word

All pricing on the JR Gas & Water website includes the STC rebate already applied, so what you see is what you pay. We manage the rebate process from start to finish, so you can enjoy a lower price without any paperwork or hassle. Whether you're upgrading your hot water system for efficiency, savings, or reliability, the STC rebate is already working in your favour — and JR makes sure it stays that way.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.

Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.

Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.

Disclaimer:

All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
