    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

EMERALD SELECT ALL-IN-ONE HEAT PUMP HOT WATER

Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water offers the Emerald All-In-One Hot Water Heat Pump Select 270L E-Heat for households wanting a practical all-in-one heat pump with 270 litre storage, built-in Wi-Fi and the added flexibility of a backup electric heating element.

The exact current residential model is HPA1-S270E. Emerald's current manufacturer specification combines a 270L enamel-lined tank, fixed-speed heat-pump technology, R290 refrigerant and a 1.0kW electric heating element in one integrated appliance.

In Standard heat-pump-only mode, Emerald publishes 2.8kW heating capacity, 0.63kW rated input, COP 4.41 and a 58L/h recharge rate. Selecting Boost adds the 1.0kW element for 3.8kW combined heating capacity and 79L/h recharge.

JR's current live product guide positions the Select 270L around a five-person household. Actual sizing should still consider shower duration, baths, simultaneous outlets and peak hot-water demand rather than occupant count alone.

Quick answer: the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat is model HPA1-S270E with 270L storage, a 1.0kW backup element, Standard COP 4.41, 58L/h Standard recharge, 79L/h Boost recharge, 50dB(A) published sound at 1 metre, built-in Wi-Fi and R290 refrigerant.

CURRENT PRODUCT STATUS

Is the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Available?

JR's current live product listing still identifies the Emerald Select 270L E-Heater as Coming Soon / Preorder and currently displays September 2026 as its estimated arrival period.

Emerald's September 2026 manufacturer data sheet now formally includes the HPA1-S270E and provides complete current technical data, even though JR's retail listing continues to display preorder status.

Current availability: use the live JR product area above for stock release, supplied-and-installed pricing and booking availability because those details can change independently of the published manufacturer specification.

How Does the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Work?

The Emerald Select uses a heat-pump refrigeration circuit to collect thermal energy from surrounding air and transfer it into water stored inside the integrated cylinder.

The Select range uses fixed-speed, non-inverter compressor technology. During normal Standard operation, the heat pump supplies the water heating without using the resistance element.

On the HPA1-S270E, Boost mode combines the 2.8kW heat-pump output with the 1.0kW electric element to increase recovery. E-Heater mode uses the electric element as the heating source.

Emerald identifies Boost and E-Heater as one-shot functions under its modelling configuration, meaning they return to Standard operation after the applicable cycle.

How it works: surrounding air supplies heat energy → the R290 heat pump transfers that energy into the 270L tank → Standard mode handles normal heating → Boost adds the 1.0kW element when faster recovery is selected.

Emerald Select 270L Operating Modes

Mode Heating Capacity Rated Input Heat-Pump COP Recharge Rate
Standard 2.8kW heat pump 0.63kW 4.41 58L/h
Boost 3.8kW combined 1.63kW total published input 4.41 heat-pump COP 79L/h
E-Heater 1.0kW electric element 1.0kW Not applicable 21L/h

Standard mode is intended for normal heat-pump operation. Boost prioritises faster recovery by combining the heat pump and electric element, while E-Heater provides element-only heating when selected.

Key Features of the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat

R290 Refrigerant

The HPA1-S270E uses a 450g R290 refrigerant charge. Emerald publishes a global warming potential of 3 for R290.

1.0kW Electric Element

The E model includes a built-in 1.0kW element for Boost and E-Heater operation.

Built-In Wi-Fi

Emerald App connectivity provides compatible remote control, monitoring and smart-energy features.

Galvanised Outer Casing

Emerald describes the Select outer casing as durable galvanised sheet metal rather than stainless steel.

Enamel Inner Tank

The storage cylinder is enamel-lined steel with a sacrificial magnesium anode for corrosion protection.

Fixed-Speed Platform

The Select uses non-inverter compressor and fan technology, distinguishing it from Emerald's DC-inverter Pro platform.

Emerald App, Wi-Fi & Solar Soaker

The Select platform includes built-in Wi-Fi and connects to the Emerald App for compatible smart control and monitoring.

Current Emerald App functions include remote on/off control, tank-temperature information, available hot-water information, Boost control, energy-consumption information and configurable smart actions.

Emerald also supports Solar Soaker. When the heat pump is paired with the applicable Emerald smart-energy equipment, surplus rooftop-solar generation can be used as a trigger for hot-water operation.

This does not mean the heat pump connects directly to solar panels. The solar system supplies electricity to the property while the connected control platform manages when compatible loads operate.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat?

Suitable all-in-one installation position with room for the 600mm × 600mm footprint and 1970mm appliance height.

Minimum 300mm head clearance where installed beneath eaves or surrounding structures.

At least 600mm clearance at the fan exhaust side under Emerald's current installation arrangement.

At least 150mm clearance at the fan intake side to support correct airflow.

At least 20m³ unobstructed surrounding space under the standard outdoor clearance arrangement.

Condensate and valve drainage directed to suitable discharge points.

Stable supporting base capable of supporting more than 400kg once installed and filled.

Suitable base construction such as a minimum 50mm concrete plinth or manufacturer-approved equivalent.

Electrical circuit suitable for the E model, with Emerald currently specifying a minimum 16A circuit breaker for element-equipped models.

Appropriate electrical isolation and protection completed to the current manufacturer instructions and applicable electrical requirements.

Pressure limiting, safety and tempering components correctly selected for the property and commissioned installation.

Service access retained for the electrical panel, controller, plumbing, TPR valve and sacrificial anode.

Indoor installation: Emerald's current installation manual says a 270L Select installed indoors should have an indoor area of at least 47m² unless its alternative permanently-open adjacent-room or mechanical-ventilation requirements are satisfied. The system contains flammable R290 refrigerant, so indoor siting requires specific ventilation and ignition-source controls.

What's Included With Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Installation?

Standard Installation

The selected JR package covers the applicable standard labour and materials where the existing services, access and proposed system position meet the package conditions.

Commissioning

The system is filled and commissioned, with normal plumbing, electrical, heat-pump, controller, drainage and safety-device operation checked before completion.

Possible Additional Work

Electrical upgrades, circuit alterations, pressure-control changes, extra valves, drainage, new bases, relocation, restricted access or other site-specific work can alter the final installation scope.

How Much Does Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Installation Cost?

Current product pricing, preorder status and installation-package pricing remain in JR's live product and installation area above. This keeps changing prices, stock status and package options inside the live Shopify system.

Final cost depends on the system being replaced, electrical requirements, valves, water pressure, drainage, support base, plumbing alterations, access and whether the proposed location satisfies Emerald's airflow requirements.

Current STC and other incentive treatment should also remain live because scheme eligibility and certificate values can change.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water can supply and install the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat in Brisbane for eligible properties once current stock is available through the live product system.

The 600mm × 600mm footprint can suit many traditional storage-hot-water locations, but the 1970mm system height, overhead clearance, side airflow and filled system weight all need to be considered before the final position is confirmed.

Where an existing electric storage cylinder is being replaced, the original location may provide a useful starting point. It still needs to be assessed for heat-pump airflow, condensate drainage, electrical provision and future servicing access.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Emerald Select 270L E-Heat Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water can also install the Emerald Select 270L E-Heat on the Gold Coast for eligible properties once available.

Gold Coast installation planning should consider fan intake and exhaust clearances, condensate drainage, surrounding walls, nearby bedrooms and weather exposure before the final position is selected.

The Select uses a galvanised sheet-metal outer casing. Coastal homes should therefore follow Emerald's installation and maintenance requirements rather than assuming the appliance can be positioned in unrestricted salt exposure.

Can the Emerald Select 270L Replace My Existing Hot Water System?

Replacing Electric Storage

This can be a practical upgrade where the current site provides enough airflow, drainage, supporting capacity and electrical provision for the HPA1-S270E.

Replacing Another Heat Pump

An existing heat pump can potentially be replaced with the Select, but physical dimensions, airflow, drainage, electrical protection and service access should still be reassessed.

Replacing Gas Hot Water

A gas-to-heat-pump conversion generally requires suitable electrical provision and altered plumbing together with appropriate work to the redundant gas hot-water system.

Replacing Solar Hot Water

A solar-hot-water conversion may involve an existing cylinder, roof collectors, solar pipework, booster wiring and removal requirements that sit outside a straightforward storage replacement.

Emerald Select 270L E-Heat vs 320L E-Heat

The 270L and 320L E-Heat models use the same current Select heating platform. The main difference is storage volume, physical height, weight and refrigerant charge.

Emerald Select 270L Efficiency & Performance

Emerald publishes a COP of 4.41 for the HPA1-S270E during Standard heat-pump-only operation under its stated test condition of 20°C/15°C ambient air with water heated from 15°C to 55°C.

Standard mode provides 58L/h published recharge. Boost mode combines the heat pump and electric element to increase recovery to 79L/h.

The electric element is therefore primarily an additional recovery tool. Routine Standard heat-pump operation is the mode associated with the published heat-pump COP.

Performance takeaway: Standard mode provides COP 4.41 and 58L/h recharge, Boost adds the 1.0kW element for 79L/h recovery, and E-Heater mode provides element-only heating at 21L/h.

Emerald Select 270L Warranty & Maintenance

5-Year Standard Tank Warranty

Emerald's current Queensland residential Select warranty provides five years tank coverage as standard.

6 Years When Registered

Eligible residential customers can receive six years tank coverage when registration is completed with Emerald within three months of installation.

5-Year System / 2-Year Labour

Emerald currently provides five years on the Select system and two years labour for Queensland residential installations, subject to the full manufacturer conditions.

The enamel-lined tank uses a sacrificial magnesium anode. Emerald's current installation manual says it should be inspected within the first 12 months and then every 1–2 years depending on water quality.

Periodic tank flushing is also recommended, generally every 12–24 months under normal water conditions, with more frequent maintenance where water contains higher levels of hardness or sediment.

Anode maintenance matters: Emerald states that tank failure caused by a depleted or removed sacrificial anode is not considered a manufacturing defect and may void cylinder warranty coverage.

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It’s part of the Australian Government’s Renewable Energy Target program, created to reward Australians who install eligible energy-efficient systems, such as heat pump or solar hot water systems. When a system like this is installed, it’s awarded a certain number of certificates based on its efficiency, the location of installation, and the amount of renewable energy it’s expected to produce or offset over time. Each certificate holds a monetary value, which acts as an upfront rebate.

How Do STC Rebates Work?

Rather than applying for the rebate after installation, JR Gas & Water includes the value of the STCs directly in the price shown on each product page. This means what you see is the final out-of-pocket cost to you — no separate rebate forms, no waiting, no surprises. We claim the STCs on your behalf and handle the paperwork behind the scenes so that your purchase is smooth, simple, and fully compliant.

Who Is Eligible?

You’re generally eligible for STCs if you’re installing a new, approved system at a residential or small business property within Australia. The installation must be completed by a qualified installer, and the system must meet current Australian standards. All heat pumps and solar hot water systems sold and installed by JR Gas & Water are STC-approved, and our team ensures each installation qualifies properly.

Final Word

All pricing on the JR Gas & Water website includes the STC rebate already applied, so what you see is what you pay. We manage the rebate process from start to finish, so you can enjoy a lower price without any paperwork or hassle. Whether you're upgrading your hot water system for efficiency, savings, or reliability, the STC rebate is already working in your favour — and JR makes sure it stays that way.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.

Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.

Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.

Disclaimer:

All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
