    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

Envirosun 250L Heat Pump Installation in Brisbane & Gold Coast

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump is an energy-efficient hot water system designed for households wanting to reduce electricity consumption while retaining the convenience of a full-size storage tank. With 250 litres of hot water storage, it provides a practical middle ground for households that need more capacity than smaller heat pump systems without necessarily requiring one of the largest tanks available.

For homeowners researching Envirosun 250L Heat Pump installed prices, Envirosun 250L Heat Pump supply and installation, or an energy-efficient hot water replacement in Brisbane or the Gold Coast, choosing the correct system is only part of the decision. Installation conditions such as household hot water demand, available space, airflow, drainage, electrical supply, water pressure and the existing plumbing arrangement can all affect the final installation.

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs heat pump hot water systems throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands, with installation options designed around the actual requirements of the property.

What Is the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump?

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump is an electric storage hot water system that uses heat pump technology to transfer energy from the surrounding air into the stored water.

Rather than relying entirely on a conventional electric heating element, heat pump technology uses electricity primarily to operate the refrigeration and heat-transfer system. This can substantially reduce the amount of electricity required to heat water compared with a traditional electric storage water heater.

With approximately 250 litres of storage capacity, the Envirosun 250L is positioned as a practical option for households requiring a reasonable volume of stored hot water while still prioritising energy efficiency.

The Envirosun heat pump range incorporates features designed for modern Australian homes, including intelligent operating controls, timer functionality that can assist households with rooftop solar, automatic sanitisation cycles, corrosion protection and operating modes designed to balance efficiency with everyday hot water availability.

Why Choose an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump?

The main advantage of the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump is the combination of usable hot water storage and substantially more efficient water heating than a conventional electric storage system.

A 250 litre heat pump can be particularly attractive for households that want enough stored hot water for normal family use without unnecessarily installing an oversized system.

It can also suit homeowners looking to make greater use of daytime solar generation. Where the installation and household electricity setup allows it, heat pump operation can be timed to concentrate water heating during periods when rooftop solar production is available.

Other reasons homeowners consider an Envirosun heat pump include:

  • Lower electricity consumption than traditional electric resistance storage systems

  • Approximately 250 litres of stored hot water

  • Timer and operating controls

  • Solar-friendly daytime heating capability

  • Automatic sanitisation functionality

  • Corrosion protection through multiple anodes

  • Frost protection and temperature management

  • Efficient heat pump operation for everyday residential hot water

The most suitable operating setup will still depend on the household, electricity tariff, solar system and typical hot water usage.

Who Is the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump Suitable For?

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump can suit a wide range of Australian homes, particularly properties currently using an electric storage hot water system and wanting to move to a more efficient form of electric water heating.

Its 250 litre tank size can work well for medium households and families where a smaller 200 litre system may provide limited storage but where moving to a significantly larger tank is unnecessary.

Correct sizing should always consider actual hot water demand rather than household size alone.

Factors such as:

  • Number of occupants

  • Shower duration

  • Bath use

  • Simultaneous hot water use

  • Dishwasher and laundry habits

  • Water-saving fixtures

  • Solar availability

  • Preferred heating schedule

can all influence which heat pump capacity is most appropriate.

JR Gas & Water can also help compare the Envirosun 250L against smaller and larger heat pump options where there is uncertainty about the correct size.

Envirosun 250L Heat Pump Installation Requirements

Heat pumps need to be installed differently from a basic electric storage tank because the system needs access to the surrounding air to operate efficiently.

The proposed position should therefore provide sufficient ventilation and clearance around the heat pump section of the unit.

Other important installation considerations include:

  • Stable and suitable base

  • Adequate airflow

  • Access for future servicing

  • Condensate drainage

  • Temperature and pressure relief drainage

  • Existing cold-water pipework

  • Hot-water connection location

  • Water pressure

  • Existing pressure-limiting equipment

  • Electrical supply

  • Clearances from surrounding structures

  • Position relative to bedrooms and neighbouring properties

The existing hot water location may already be suitable, particularly when replacing an outdoor electric storage tank. In other homes, minor modifications or relocation may produce a better long-term result.

Replacing an Electric Hot Water System With an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump

One of the most common applications for the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump is replacing an older electric storage hot water system.

Existing electric storage installations often already have much of the required hot and cold-water infrastructure nearby, which can make conversion to a heat pump relatively straightforward.

However, the existing installation still needs to be assessed.

Older hot water installations may have:

  • Inadequate pressure control

  • Ageing isolation valves

  • Poor drainage

  • Corroded pipework

  • An unsuitable base

  • Electrical arrangements that do not suit the new system

  • Restricted airflow around the proposed heat pump location

Addressing these issues as part of the replacement can help ensure the new hot water system is installed correctly rather than simply connecting a new appliance to an unsuitable existing setup.

Using the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump With Solar Power

Heat pump hot water systems can be particularly useful in homes with rooftop solar.

Because a heat pump generally uses considerably less electricity than a conventional electric resistance water heater, homeowners can schedule water heating during daylight hours and potentially use electricity that would otherwise be exported to the grid.

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump includes timer functionality that can assist with this type of operating strategy.

For example, a household may choose to concentrate the majority of water heating around late morning or early afternoon when solar generation is typically available.

The ideal schedule will vary depending on:

  • Solar system size

  • Household electricity consumption

  • Hot water usage pattern

  • Feed-in tariff

  • Electricity tariff

  • Battery storage

  • Seasonal solar production

Solar optimisation should therefore be considered as part of the overall hot water strategy rather than simply operating the unit at the same time in every home.

Why Heat Pump Installation Quality Matters

A good heat pump installation involves more than placing the new tank where the previous water heater was located.

Heat pump performance can be affected by restricted airflow, poor drainage, unsuitable electrical arrangements and incorrect plumbing or pressure control.

Condensate also needs to be considered. Heat pumps extract heat from the surrounding air and naturally produce water during operation, similar to an air-conditioning system. That condensate needs somewhere suitable to drain.

The temperature and pressure relief valve also requires compliant discharge arrangements.

Correct installation helps ensure the system can operate efficiently, remain serviceable and provide reliable hot water over the long term.

Why Choose a Quality Heat Pump Instead of the Cheapest Hot Water System?

The lowest purchase price does not necessarily produce the lowest overall cost.

When comparing heat pump hot water systems, it is worth considering:

  • Purchase price

  • Installation requirements

  • Electricity consumption

  • Tank capacity

  • Warranty

  • Replacement parts

  • Manufacturer support

  • Operating controls

  • Noise

  • Corrosion protection

  • Expected service life

  • Future servicing requirements

A system that costs slightly more initially may offer better value when electricity consumption and long-term ownership are considered.

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump is designed as an energy-efficient residential hot water solution rather than simply being a low-cost electric storage replacement.

For many households, the combination of 250 litre storage, heat pump efficiency and solar-compatible operating controls makes it an attractive alternative to traditional electric hot water.

JR Gas & Water provides Envirosun 250L Heat Pump installation throughout Brisbane, including properties across Brisbane Northside, Brisbane Southside and surrounding metropolitan areas.

When replacing an existing hot water system, we assess the installation around the actual property rather than assuming every home requires the same setup.

Important considerations can include:

  • Existing system type

  • Existing tank position

  • Access

  • Plumbing arrangement

  • Electrical connection

  • Water pressure

  • Drainage

  • Available airflow

  • Base condition

What Is Included When Installing an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump?

The exact installation will depend on the installation package selected and the conditions at the property.

A typical replacement may involve:

  • Disconnecting the existing hot water system

  • Removing the old tank

  • Positioning the new Envirosun heat pump

  • Connecting the cold-water supply

  • Connecting the hot-water outlet

  • Checking existing water pressure control

  • Installing or replacing valves where required

  • Connecting required drainage

  • Electrical connection where applicable

  • Filling and commissioning the system

  • Checking operation

  • Testing the completed installation

Some properties require additional work beyond a basic replacement.

Examples can include:

  • Additional copper pipework

  • Hot water system relocation

  • New concrete or support base

  • Drainage modifications

  • Pressure limiting valve installation

  • Tempering valve upgrades

  • Electrical circuit modifications

  • New power point or electrical supply

  • Access modifications

This is why JR Gas & Water offers different installation options rather than assuming every hot water replacement has an identical scope.

Can the Envirosun 250L Replace My Existing Hot Water System?

In many homes, yes.

The Envirosun 250L Heat Pump can be a particularly logical upgrade from an existing electric storage water heater.

It may also be considered when replacing other hot water technologies, although the installation scope can change significantly.

For example, replacing:

  • Electric storage with a heat pump may be relatively straightforward

  • Gas storage with a heat pump may require plumbing and electrical changes

  • Continuous-flow gas with a heat pump requires a new storage tank location

  • Solar hot water may involve removal or modification of existing solar components

The best replacement therefore depends on both the existing system and the property.

Envirosun 250L Heat Pump Installed Pricing

The cost of an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump supplied and installed depends on more than the price of the water heater itself.

Installation cost can change according to:

  • Existing hot water system

  • Installation package selected

  • Whether the system stays in the same location

  • Pipework required

  • Existing valve condition

  • Drainage

  • Electrical requirements

  • Site access

  • Base requirements

  • Disposal of the existing system

  • Additional installation materials

JR Gas & Water provides upfront installation options across a wide range of common installation scenarios, allowing customers to select an installation that more accurately reflects their property.

This makes it easier to compare the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump installed price against other heat pump hot water systems without relying on an unrealistic minimum installation figure.

Why Choose JR Gas & Water for Envirosun Heat Pump Installation?

JR Gas & Water specialises in hot water installation across South East Queensland.

Rather than treating the hot water system as a standalone product, we look at the complete installation.

That includes:

  • Correct system sizing

  • Plumbing requirements

  • Electrical requirements

  • Water pressure

  • Drainage

  • Installation location

  • Solar optimisation

  • Household hot water usage

  • Future servicing access

Customers can compare different hot water systems, installation packages and upgrade options before booking.

For homeowners considering an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump in Brisbane or the Gold Coast, this provides a clearer way to understand both the product and the likely installation requirements before work begins.

Envirosun 250L Heat Pump FAQs

How much does an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump cost to install?

The installed price depends on the existing hot water system and the amount of work required at the property. A straightforward replacement in the same suitable location will generally require less work than an installation involving relocation, extra pipework, drainage changes, a new base or electrical modifications.

Is a 250L Envirosun heat pump big enough for a family?

A 250 litre heat pump can suit many medium-sized households, but tank capacity should be matched to actual hot water demand. Number of occupants, shower length, bath use and simultaneous hot water consumption can all affect sizing.

Can I run an Envirosun heat pump from solar panels?

The unit still operates from the property's electrical supply rather than being directly connected to solar panels. However, timer settings can be used to schedule heating during periods of strong rooftop solar production, helping households increase their use of self-generated solar electricity.

Can an Envirosun 250L replace an electric hot water system?

Yes. Replacing an existing electric storage water heater is one of the most common applications for a heat pump. The existing location still needs to be checked for airflow, drainage, electrical requirements, water pressure and service clearances.

Does an Envirosun heat pump need drainage?

Yes. Heat pump systems can produce condensate during operation, and the hot water tank also requires appropriate relief-valve drainage. The installation needs to provide suitable discharge arrangements.

Does an Envirosun 250L Heat Pump need electricity?

Yes. Heat pumps are electric appliances and require a suitable electrical supply. The electrical requirements of the new unit should be checked against the existing installation before replacement.

Can the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump be installed indoors?

Heat pumps generally require substantial airflow around the heat pump section of the appliance. Outdoor installation or a sufficiently ventilated installation area is normally preferred. The proposed location should be assessed before installation.

Can the Envirosun 250L Heat Pump be relocated?

Yes. A hot water system can often be moved to another suitable position, although relocation usually involves additional plumbing and potentially electrical work. Drainage, airflow, access and pipe lengths also need to be considered.

Is a heat pump cheaper to run than electric storage hot water?

Heat pump water heaters generally use significantly less electricity for water heating than conventional electric resistance storage systems because they transfer heat from the surrounding air instead of generating all of the heat directly with an electric element.

Actual running costs depend on household water consumption, electricity pricing, climate, operating schedule and whether rooftop solar is available.

Does JR Gas & Water install Envirosun heat pumps in Brisbane?

Yes. JR Gas & Water installs heat pump hot water systems throughout Greater Brisbane, including Brisbane Northside and Brisbane Southside.

Does JR Gas & Water install Envirosun heat pumps on the Gold Coast?

How Do STC Rebates Work?

Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs, are part of the Australian Government’s renewable energy scheme. Eligible heat pump and solar hot water systems can generate STCs, which carry a monetary value. JR Gas & Water applies this value as an upfront rebate so customers see a reduced out-of-pocket price on eligible products rather than needing to claim anything later themselves.

For clarity, JR Gas & Water uses a flat-rate STC rebate of $1,000 including GST on eligible systems. This means the price shown online is the customer’s out-of-pocket price after the rebate has already been applied. It is not the full gross system price before the rebate.

As an example, if a system is advertised online at $4,000, the gross system price is $5,000, less the $1,000 STC rebate, leaving the advertised out-of-pocket amount of $4,000.

This upfront rebate is offered on the basis that the installation will be completed compliantly, the system will remain eligible for STCs, and JR Gas & Water will be able to create, process, and receive the value of those certificates after installation. We handle the STC paperwork and process behind the scenes, but the rebate is conditional and relies on the job proceeding correctly from start to finish.

Who Is Eligible?

In general, customers may be eligible for the STC rebate where they are purchasing an approved solar hot water system, heat pump hot water system, or other eligible product that qualifies under the applicable scheme rules at the time of installation.

Eligibility generally requires that:
the product itself is STC eligible,
the installation address is eligible,
the system is installed in Australia,
the installation is completed in a compliant manner,
the system is capable of being properly verified,
and the customer provides any required information, declarations, signatures, and supporting documents needed to process the STCs.

Where JR Gas & Water advertises an eligible system with the rebate already applied, the customer is agreeing that the STCs will be assigned to JR Gas & Water or its nominated agent as part of the sale. That assignment is what allows the rebate to be applied upfront instead of the customer paying full price.

When Is the Rebate Not Available or Not Valid?

The STC rebate is not an automatic discount in every situation. It is only available where the installation proceeds fully and remains eligible for STC creation and assignment.

A customer may not be eligible, or may be required to repay the rebate amount, where:

the order is cancelled after rebate pricing has been applied,
the customer declines installation,
the site is not ready,
access is refused,
the installation cannot proceed due to hazards, animals, obstructions, or unsafe conditions,
the customer wants to keep the STCs personally,
required paperwork is not signed or returned,
incorrect or incomplete information is provided,
the property or system turns out not to qualify,
the quoted eligible product is changed,
a third party interferes with, alters, completes, disconnects, reconnects, or modifies the installation,
required compliance or upgrade works are refused,
or the installation cannot be lawfully completed in a way that allows the STCs to be validly claimed.

This also includes situations where another contractor performs part of the work in a way that affects eligibility, or where changes made by the customer or another trade prevent JR Gas & Water from receiving the STC benefit that the upfront rebate was based on.

What Happens If the Customer Does Not Proceed?

Where a customer accepts pricing that already includes the STC rebate and then cancels, postpones, declines installation, refuses access, or otherwise prevents the installation from being completed, JR Gas & Water may recover the full $1,000 STC rebate amount in addition to any other applicable cancellation, postponement, restocking, freight, attendance, or administrative charges.

This is because the lower advertised price was offered on the basis that JR Gas & Water would receive the benefit of the STCs after compliant completion of the installation. If the job does not proceed, that STC benefit cannot be recovered by JR Gas & Water, so the rebate amount becomes payable.

Can the Customer Keep the STCs Instead?

Yes, but not at the rebate-adjusted price.

If the customer wishes to keep, trade, or claim the STCs themselves, they must notify JR Gas & Water in writing before the order is accepted, or at the latest before installation begins. In that case, the customer must pay the full $1,000 including GST rebate amount before installation unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Heat pump hot water systems are one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat water, using ambient air to produce hot water while consuming significantly less electricity than a conventional electric storage system.

Like any appliance with refrigeration and mechanical components, regular maintenance is essential to maximise efficiency, maintain reliable performance and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Many manufacturers recommend routine inspections and servicing throughout the life of the system.

Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months

Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your heat pump system.

Homeowners should:

  • Carefully operate the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Operate the Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (where fitted).
  • Remove leaves, grass and debris from around the outdoor unit.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet remain clear.
  • Check the condensate drain is free-flowing.
  • Inspect for obvious water leaks or corrosion.
  • Listen for any unusual noises during operation.

Why is this important?

Heat pumps rely on unrestricted airflow to operate efficiently.

Blocked airflow, dirty coils or seized safety valves can reduce efficiency, increase electricity consumption and place unnecessary strain on the compressor.

Operating the PTR and ECV valves every six months also helps prevent mineral build-up and confirms they continue to function correctly.

Important: Always follow your manufacturer's instructions when operating safety valves, as hot water will discharge during testing. If you're unsure, contact a licensed plumber.

Why These Components Matter

Sacrificial Anode

Most vitreous enamel-lined heat pump storage tanks contain a sacrificial anode.

The anode corrodes instead of the steel tank, protecting it from internal rust.

Replacing the anode at the recommended interval can significantly extend the life of your storage tank.

Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve

The PTR valve protects the storage tank from excessive pressure and temperature.

Over time, mineral deposits may prevent the valve from operating correctly, making regular testing and replacement essential.

Expansion Control Valve (ECV)

Where fitted, the ECV controls pressure created as water expands during heating.

Maintaining the ECV helps protect both the storage tank and your home's plumbing system.

Airflow & Evaporator Coil

Unlike conventional electric systems, heat pumps rely on airflow across the evaporator coil to extract heat from the surrounding air.

Restricted airflow caused by leaves, dust or debris can:

  • Reduce efficiency.
  • Increase running costs.
  • Extend heating times.
  • Place additional strain on the compressor.

Keeping the unit clean helps maintain peak performance.

If Your Heat Pump Isn't Working

Before arranging a service, check the following:

  • Ensure power is switched on.
  • Check the circuit breaker and safety switch (RCD).
  • Confirm the isolator near the unit is turned on.
  • Check the controller for any fault or error codes.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet are unobstructed.
  • Remove any leaves or debris around the unit.
  • Check for visible water leaks.
  • Confirm the condensate drain is not blocked.
  • Listen for unusual noises from the fan or compressor.
  • Allow sufficient recovery time after heavy hot water usage.

If your system is still not producing hot water or is displaying fault codes, contact JR Gas & Water for professional diagnosis and repair.

General Signs Your System May Need Attention

Arrange a service if you notice:

  • Little or no hot water.
  • Unusual fan or compressor noises.
  • Error codes on the controller.
  • Constant water leaking.
  • Reduced heating performance.
  • Higher than normal electricity usage.
  • Water taking much longer to heat.
  • Visible corrosion.
  • Repeated electrical trips.
  • Restricted airflow due to dirt or debris.

Early servicing can often prevent more expensive repairs and prolong the life of your system.

Protect Your Warranty & Maximise System Life

Routine maintenance helps keep your heat pump operating safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule can also assist in maintaining warranty coverage.

Failure to maintain your system may result in:

  • Reduced energy efficiency.
  • Increased electricity costs.
  • Premature tank corrosion.
  • Compressor strain.
  • Shortened system lifespan.
  • Unexpected breakdowns.
  • Possible reduction or loss of manufacturer warranty, depending on the manufacturer's maintenance requirements.

Regular preventative maintenance is one of the best ways to protect your investment and ensure your heat pump continues delivering efficient hot water for many years.

Please note: Maintenance requirements vary between manufacturers and models. Always refer to your owner's manual for the maintenance schedule applicable to your heat pump hot water system. JR Gas & Water services all major heat pump brands in accordance with manufacturer recommendations where applicable.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.

Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.

Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.

Disclaimer:

All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
