    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

RECLAIM CO₂ HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION

Reclaim CO₂ V2 250L Glass-Lined Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Reclaim CO₂ V2 250L Glass-Lined heat pump hot water system across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The current V2 glass-lined configuration is identified by Reclaim as REHP-CO2-250GL-V2. It combines the RE250AGLH glass-lined storage tank, EHPE-4550P-A outdoor CO₂ heat-pump module and Reclaim's V2 Wi-Fi smart-control platform.

This is a split hot-water heat-pump system. The storage cylinder and outdoor heat-pump module are separate components connected by insulated water pipework, allowing each component to be positioned where it best suits plumbing, airflow, access and servicing requirements.

Reclaim 250L Glass-Lined V2 at a glance: approximately 259L physical glass-lined storage, premium CO₂ split heat-pump technology, 5.24kW published thermal output, COP 6.02 under Reclaim's stated test conditions, approximately 37dB published outdoor-unit noise, 63°C heat-pump water outlet and V2 Wi-Fi smart control. JR currently recommends the 250L system for approximately five-person household demand.

Reclaim 250L Glass-Lined Supply & Installation at a Glance

Physical Tank Volume

Approximately 259 litres in the RE250AGLH glass-lined cylinder.

Household Guide

JR currently positions the 250L V2 glass-lined system for approximately 5 people.

Published COP

6.02 under Reclaim's specified laboratory test conditions.

Published Noise

Approximately 37dB for the EHPE-4550P-A outdoor heat-pump module.

Who Is the Reclaim 250L Glass-Lined V2 Best For?

Medium Households

The 250L class is suited to homes needing more stored hot water than Reclaim's compact 160L system without moving into the larger 315L or 400L configurations.

Premium Heat Pump Upgrades

The Reclaim is well suited to homeowners deliberately upgrading from conventional electric storage or gas to premium CO₂ heat-pump hot water.

Broader Water-Quality Applications

The glass-lined tank can be the more appropriate choice where local water chemistry falls outside Reclaim's stainless-steel tank requirements.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Reclaim 250L Glass-Lined V2 Right for My Home?

A Good Choice If...

You have moderate household hot-water demand, want a premium split CO₂ heat pump and prefer the broader water-quality positioning of a glass-lined storage tank.

Consider Another Option If...

Your household routinely has heavy simultaneous hot-water demand that would be better served by a 315L or 400L system, or you need a much smaller cylinder for a low-use household.

JR Should Check First If...

You need an internal cylinder, have difficult access, require a long tank-to-heat-pump pipe run, use a non-standard water source or are converting from gas or solar hot water.

How Many People Does the Reclaim 250L Suit?

JR currently positions its Reclaim 250L V2 glass-lined system for approximately five-person household demand.

That should still be treated as a guide rather than a guaranteed capacity. Long showers, baths, multiple bathrooms, high-flow fixtures and simultaneous demand can all materially increase hot-water usage.

Reclaim's top-down return heating also helps restore usable hot water efficiently after demand by returning heated water toward the upper part of the storage cylinder.

Where household demand is consistently higher, the Reclaim 315L should be compared before committing to the 250L system.

How Does the Reclaim CO₂ Heat Pump Work?

The Reclaim is an air-source heat-pump water heater. It absorbs heat energy from the surrounding outdoor air and transfers that heat into water through a refrigeration cycle.

The outdoor module uses R744 carbon dioxide as the refrigerant. Water circulates between the storage cylinder and heat-pump unit, where it is heated through the heat exchanger and returned to the tank.

The current V2 platform publishes a heat-pump hot-water outlet temperature of approximately 63°C.

This is a dedicated domestic hot-water system. It does not provide room heating or air conditioning.

Key Features of the Reclaim CO₂ V2 250L Glass-Lined

259L Physical Storage

The RE250AGLH provides approximately 259L of physical storage volume in Reclaim's 250L product category.

Glass-Lined Steel Cylinder

The steel tank uses an internal glass/enamel lining as part of its corrosion-protection system.

Natural CO₂ Refrigerant

The Reclaim outdoor unit uses R744 carbon dioxide rather than a conventional high-GWP synthetic refrigerant.

What Does the Reclaim V2 Wi-Fi Controller Do?

The current Reclaim Wi-Fi controller provides 8 operational modes and substantially more control than the older five-preset controller described in the source copy.

Continuous Operation

The system can monitor tank temperature and operate throughout the day when required.

Off-Peak Scheduling

Operating windows can be selected around suitable night-time tariff periods.

Daytime Solar Operation

The heat pump can be scheduled to run during common daytime PV-generation periods.

Multiple Timer & Temperature Control

More advanced timer strategies allow operation to be tailored around household demand.

One-Shot Boost & Holiday Mode

The controller supports temporary additional heating and reduced-operation holiday settings.

App Monitoring & Error Reporting

The Wi-Fi platform supports remote app control, usage monitoring and error notifications.

Can the Reclaim 250L Work With Rooftop Solar?

Yes. The Reclaim can be scheduled to operate through daylight hours when rooftop PV is generating electricity.

The solar panels do not directly heat the water. Instead, solar electricity can supply some or all of the electrical demand of the heat-pump module when household PV production is available.

Shifting hot-water production into solar-generation periods can increase self-consumption of rooftop PV and reduce reliance on grid electricity.

The most effective operating schedule depends on the size of the PV array, other daytime household loads, feed-in tariff and normal hot-water demand.

How Efficient Is the Reclaim CO₂ V2?

Reclaim publishes a COP of 6.02 for the EHPE-4550P-A under its stated test condition of approximately 32.6°C ambient air and 21.1°C incoming water.

At that test point, Reclaim publishes approximately 5.24kW of thermal output from 0.87kW of electrical input.

COP varies with ambient air temperature, incoming water temperature and operating conditions, so 6.02 should not be represented as a constant real-world figure throughout the year.

Reclaim promotes potential hot-water energy savings of up to approximately 80% under suitable conditions, but actual savings depend on the system being replaced, tariff, household usage, climate and operating schedule.

Glass-Lined vs Stainless Reclaim 250L

Feature 250L Glass-Lined 250L Stainless
Tank Construction Glass/enamel-lined steel Stainless steel
Heat Pump Platform Reclaim CO₂ V2 Reclaim CO₂ V2
JR Household Positioning Approx. 5 people Approx. 5 people
Published V2 Noise 37dB 37dB
Water Quality Broader suitability where stainless restrictions may apply Requires suitable stainless-tank water chemistry
Current Tank Parts Warranty 10 years 15 years

The correct tank should be chosen around water chemistry, installation requirements and ownership priorities rather than assuming stainless steel is automatically better.

Glass-Lined Tank Maintenance

The RE250AGLH is an enamel-lined steel storage tank and uses corrosion-protection measures appropriate to that construction.

Maintenance should follow Reclaim's current owner, installation and warranty documentation rather than generic heat-pump maintenance advice.

Homeowners should not be instructed to routinely check refrigerant pressure, lubricate compressor components or replace generic “air filters” unless Reclaim's documentation for the exact system specifically requires those tasks.

JR's preventative inspection and major-service offerings can still include checks of valves, electrical connections, condensate drainage, airflow and evaporator-coil condition where appropriate.

Controller & Commissioning

The V2 controller, tank sensor, water circuit and heat-pump operation are configured, tested and commissioned for normal hot-water production.

Possible Additional Work

Electrical upgrades, long pipe runs, pressure-control changes, valve replacement, restricted access, internal-tank requirements, relocation or conversion from another hot-water technology can increase the installation scope.

How Much Does Reclaim 250L Glass-Lined Installation Cost?

Current supplied-and-installed pricing is shown in JR's live product and installation selector above. This keeps live pricing, STC treatment, package options and booking availability inside the working product page.

The final Reclaim 250L installation cost depends on the hot-water system being replaced, electrical supply, cylinder position, outdoor-unit location, pipe length, valves, drainage and access.

Converting from gas, conventional electric storage or roof-mounted solar can require substantially different work from replacing an existing heat-pump system.

A fixed three-year payback should not be promised because financial return varies with installation price, STCs, electricity tariff, household hot-water use and solar generation.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Reclaim CO₂ 250L Glass-Lined Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Reclaim CO₂ 250L Glass-Lined V2 in Brisbane for suitable heat-pump replacements and premium hot-water upgrades.

The 250L system can provide a useful middle ground for households that need more stored hot water than Reclaim's 160L configuration but do not need the footprint or capacity of a 315L or 400L tank.

JR Gas & Water also supplies and installs the Reclaim CO₂ 250L Glass-Lined V2 on the Gold Coast across eligible service areas.

The split-system layout allows the tank and outdoor heat-pump module to be positioned separately, which can be useful where existing hot-water services and suitable airflow are in different locations.

The current approximately 37dB published outdoor-unit noise provides useful flexibility, although boundaries, bedrooms and servicing clearance should still be considered.

JR can assess the proposed installation before the final configuration is selected.

Can the Reclaim 250L Replace My Existing Hot Water System?

Replacing Electric Storage

A common upgrade pathway, but the Reclaim requires an outdoor module, suitable electrical supply and insulated flow and return pipework.

Replacing Another Heat Pump

An existing heat-pump installation can provide a useful starting point, but tank dimensions, valves, circuit requirements and pipework still need confirmation.

Replacing Gas Hot Water

A gas-to-Reclaim conversion can require new electrical work, plumbing changes and separate licensed treatment of redundant gas services.

Replacing Solar Hot Water

A solar-to-heat-pump conversion may require roof-component isolation or removal and changes to existing solar hot-water plumbing.

Upgrading From 160L

The 250L Reclaim can provide additional storage where household demand has increased beyond the smaller system's practical range.

Relocating the System

The split layout provides useful flexibility, but additional pipework, drainage and electrical work can increase installation scope.

How Do STC Rebates Work?

Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs, are part of the Australian Government’s renewable energy scheme. Eligible heat pump and solar hot water systems can generate STCs, which carry a monetary value. JR Gas & Water applies this value as an upfront rebate so customers see a reduced out-of-pocket price on eligible products rather than needing to claim anything later themselves.

For clarity, JR Gas & Water uses a flat-rate STC rebate of $1,000 including GST on eligible systems. This means the price shown online is the customer’s out-of-pocket price after the rebate has already been applied. It is not the full gross system price before the rebate.

As an example, if a system is advertised online at $4,000, the gross system price is $5,000, less the $1,000 STC rebate, leaving the advertised out-of-pocket amount of $4,000.

This upfront rebate is offered on the basis that the installation will be completed compliantly, the system will remain eligible for STCs, and JR Gas & Water will be able to create, process, and receive the value of those certificates after installation. We handle the STC paperwork and process behind the scenes, but the rebate is conditional and relies on the job proceeding correctly from start to finish.

Who Is Eligible?

In general, customers may be eligible for the STC rebate where they are purchasing an approved solar hot water system, heat pump hot water system, or other eligible product that qualifies under the applicable scheme rules at the time of installation.

Eligibility generally requires that:
the product itself is STC eligible,
the installation address is eligible,
the system is installed in Australia,
the installation is completed in a compliant manner,
the system is capable of being properly verified,
and the customer provides any required information, declarations, signatures, and supporting documents needed to process the STCs.

Where JR Gas & Water advertises an eligible system with the rebate already applied, the customer is agreeing that the STCs will be assigned to JR Gas & Water or its nominated agent as part of the sale. That assignment is what allows the rebate to be applied upfront instead of the customer paying full price.

When Is the Rebate Not Available or Not Valid?

The STC rebate is not an automatic discount in every situation. It is only available where the installation proceeds fully and remains eligible for STC creation and assignment.

A customer may not be eligible, or may be required to repay the rebate amount, where:

the order is cancelled after rebate pricing has been applied,
the customer declines installation,
the site is not ready,
access is refused,
the installation cannot proceed due to hazards, animals, obstructions, or unsafe conditions,
the customer wants to keep the STCs personally,
required paperwork is not signed or returned,
incorrect or incomplete information is provided,
the property or system turns out not to qualify,
the quoted eligible product is changed,
a third party interferes with, alters, completes, disconnects, reconnects, or modifies the installation,
required compliance or upgrade works are refused,
or the installation cannot be lawfully completed in a way that allows the STCs to be validly claimed.

This also includes situations where another contractor performs part of the work in a way that affects eligibility, or where changes made by the customer or another trade prevent JR Gas & Water from receiving the STC benefit that the upfront rebate was based on.

What Happens If the Customer Does Not Proceed?

Where a customer accepts pricing that already includes the STC rebate and then cancels, postpones, declines installation, refuses access, or otherwise prevents the installation from being completed, JR Gas & Water may recover the full $1,000 STC rebate amount in addition to any other applicable cancellation, postponement, restocking, freight, attendance, or administrative charges.

This is because the lower advertised price was offered on the basis that JR Gas & Water would receive the benefit of the STCs after compliant completion of the installation. If the job does not proceed, that STC benefit cannot be recovered by JR Gas & Water, so the rebate amount becomes payable.

Can the Customer Keep the STCs Instead?

Yes, but not at the rebate-adjusted price.

If the customer wishes to keep, trade, or claim the STCs themselves, they must notify JR Gas & Water in writing before the order is accepted, or at the latest before installation begins. In that case, the customer must pay the full $1,000 including GST rebate amount before installation unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Heat pump hot water systems are one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat water, using ambient air to produce hot water while consuming significantly less electricity than a conventional electric storage system.

Like any appliance with refrigeration and mechanical components, regular maintenance is essential to maximise efficiency, maintain reliable performance and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Many manufacturers recommend routine inspections and servicing throughout the life of the system.

Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months

Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your heat pump system.

Homeowners should:

  • Carefully operate the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Operate the Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (where fitted).
  • Remove leaves, grass and debris from around the outdoor unit.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet remain clear.
  • Check the condensate drain is free-flowing.
  • Inspect for obvious water leaks or corrosion.
  • Listen for any unusual noises during operation.

Why is this important?

Heat pumps rely on unrestricted airflow to operate efficiently.

Blocked airflow, dirty coils or seized safety valves can reduce efficiency, increase electricity consumption and place unnecessary strain on the compressor.

Operating the PTR and ECV valves every six months also helps prevent mineral build-up and confirms they continue to function correctly.

Important: Always follow your manufacturer's instructions when operating safety valves, as hot water will discharge during testing. If you're unsure, contact a licensed plumber.

  • Cleaning of the evaporator coil (where required).
  • Inspection of fan and compressor operation.
  • Inspection of condensate drainage.
  • Leak and corrosion inspection.
  • Operational performance testing.

Why These Components Matter

Sacrificial Anode

Most vitreous enamel-lined heat pump storage tanks contain a sacrificial anode.

The anode corrodes instead of the steel tank, protecting it from internal rust.

Replacing the anode at the recommended interval can significantly extend the life of your storage tank.

Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve

The PTR valve protects the storage tank from excessive pressure and temperature.

Over time, mineral deposits may prevent the valve from operating correctly, making regular testing and replacement essential.

Expansion Control Valve (ECV)

Where fitted, the ECV controls pressure created as water expands during heating.

Maintaining the ECV helps protect both the storage tank and your home's plumbing system.

Airflow & Evaporator Coil

Unlike conventional electric systems, heat pumps rely on airflow across the evaporator coil to extract heat from the surrounding air.

Restricted airflow caused by leaves, dust or debris can:

  • Reduce efficiency.
  • Increase running costs.
  • Extend heating times.
  • Place additional strain on the compressor.

Keeping the unit clean helps maintain peak performance.

If Your Heat Pump Isn't Working

Before arranging a service, check the following:

  • Ensure power is switched on.
  • Check the circuit breaker and safety switch (RCD).
  • Confirm the isolator near the unit is turned on.
  • Check the controller for any fault or error codes.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet are unobstructed.
  • Remove any leaves or debris around the unit.
  • Check for visible water leaks.
  • Confirm the condensate drain is not blocked.
  • Listen for unusual noises from the fan or compressor.
  • Allow sufficient recovery time after heavy hot water usage.

If your system is still not producing hot water or is displaying fault codes, contact JR Gas & Water for professional diagnosis and repair.

General Signs Your System May Need Attention

Arrange a service if you notice:

  • Little or no hot water.
  • Unusual fan or compressor noises.
  • Error codes on the controller.
  • Constant water leaking.
  • Reduced heating performance.
  • Higher than normal electricity usage.
  • Water taking much longer to heat.
  • Visible corrosion.
  • Repeated electrical trips.
  • Restricted airflow due to dirt or debris.

Early servicing can often prevent more expensive repairs and prolong the life of your system.

Protect Your Warranty & Maximise System Life

Routine maintenance helps keep your heat pump operating safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule can also assist in maintaining warranty coverage.

Failure to maintain your system may result in:

  • Reduced energy efficiency.
  • Increased electricity costs.
  • Premature tank corrosion.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.

Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.

Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.

Disclaimer:

All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
