PURETEC WATER SOFTENER INSTALLATION

Puretec SOL30-E3 Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and professionally installs the Puretec SOL30-E3 Softrol™ water softener across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast properties. It is a whole-property ion-exchange water softener designed to reduce calcium, magnesium and other hardness minerals that contribute to scale and spotting throughout the plumbing system.

The SOL30-E3 uses Puretec's volumetric E3-matic control valve. Rather than relying only on a fixed regeneration schedule, the E3 system monitors treated-water use and calculates regeneration according to programmed capacity, water volume and water quality. If no water is used, Puretec states that the E3 does not unnecessarily backwash.

The SOL30-E3 is the lower-flow domestic E3 model in the current Puretec Softrol™ range. It provides a published 30 L/min service flow and is intended for properties where that flow, the measured hardness and actual household demand make it the appropriate size.

Puretec SOL30-E3 at a glance: this is a WaterMark-approved 30 L/min whole-property water softener using a volumetric E3-matic valve. Puretec publishes a 12,000-litre capacity based specifically on water hardness of 100 ppm, so actual capacity between regenerations varies with hardness and water usage. The current technical guide lists the cabinet at approximately 1125 mm high × 350 mm wide × 490 mm deep, with a 29 kg dry weight and up to 50 kg salt-storage capacity.

Who Is the Puretec SOL30-E3 Best For?

Properties With Measured Hard Water

The SOL30-E3 is designed for properties where hardness testing confirms calcium and magnesium levels that justify a dedicated ion-exchange softening system.

Whole-Property Treatment

The system is installed at the point of entry so softened water can be supplied through applicable downstream bathrooms, hot-water equipment, laundries and fixtures.

Customers Wanting Volumetric Regeneration

The E3 control strategy responds to actual treated-water use and programmed capacity rather than regenerating simply because a fixed number of days has elapsed.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Puretec SOL30-E3 Right for My Property?

A Good Choice If...

  • Your water testing confirms a hardness issue.
  • You want actual ion-exchange hardness reduction.
  • You want whole-property softening.
  • A 30 L/min service-flow model suits your peak demand.
  • You have suitable drainage and mains power.
  • You prefer usage-based regeneration over a fixed-time system.

Consider Another Option If...

  • Your only concern is chlorine taste or odour.
  • Your main issue is sediment rather than hardness.
  • You only want filtered drinking water at one outlet.
  • You do not want a salt-regenerated treatment system.
  • Your property requires substantially more than 30 L/min peak flow.
  • A non-softening scale-control system better matches your goal.

JR Should Check First If...

  • Your hardness level has not been measured.
  • You are deciding between SOL30-E3 and SOL40-E3.
  • Free chlorine may exceed 1 ppm.
  • Incoming water pressure exceeds 500 kPa.
  • The proposed location is remote from drainage or power.
  • You want high-flow irrigation or other large services softened.
Do not choose a softener from household size alone. Correct sizing depends on measured hardness, peak flow and actual water consumption. A smaller household can still require more treatment capacity if the incoming water is substantially harder.

How Does the Puretec SOL30-E3 Water Softener Work?

The SOL30-E3 uses ion-exchange resin to reduce hardness minerals. During normal service, incoming water passes through the resin bed before softened water continues through the applicable household plumbing. When the calculated treatment capacity has been used, the E3 valve automatically regenerates the resin using a salt solution.

1

Hard Water Enters

Incoming water containing hardness minerals is directed through the Softrol™ resin vessel.

2

Ion Exchange

The resin reduces calcium, magnesium and other hardness minerals associated with conventional hard-water scale.

3

Usage Is Measured

The E3-matic valve monitors treated-water use against the programmed system capacity and water-quality settings.

4

Automatic Regeneration

When regeneration is required, the system uses the salt supply and drain to restore the resin before automatically returning to normal service.

Why Choose Volumetric E3 Regeneration?

Responds to Actual Water Use

Puretec states that if no water is used, the E3 system does not simply regenerate because a fixed timer has reached its normal interval.

Calculated Regeneration

The E3 valve uses water volume and programmed water-quality information to determine when the available treatment capacity requires regeneration.

Reduced Unnecessary Salt & Water Use

Matching regeneration more closely to actual demand can reduce unnecessary regeneration compared with a time-based system that is programmed more frequently than the property requires.

What Does the 12,000 Litre Capacity Mean?

Puretec's published 12,000-litre capacity is based on incoming hardness of 100 ppm. It is not a fixed promise that every SOL30-E3 will treat exactly 12,000 litres between regeneration cycles.

As hardness increases, the resin has more calcium and magnesium to exchange from every litre of water. The available treatment volume between regenerations therefore decreases. Lower hardness places less load on the resin.

The E3 controller uses the programmed hardness and treatment capacity together with actual water volume to decide when regeneration is required.

Measure hardness before commissioning. The system cannot be sized or programmed accurately from model number, bathroom count or household occupancy alone.

What Size Property Does the Puretec SOL30-E3 Suit?

The SOL30-E3 is Puretec's 30 L/min domestic E3 model. Whether 30 L/min is suitable depends on how much water the property may use simultaneously rather than simply the number of bedrooms.

Multiple showers, high-flow fixtures, large baths and simultaneous appliance use can increase peak household demand. If the likely peak demand is higher, the 40 L/min SOL40-E3 may be more appropriate.

Hardness also matters. A property with lower flow demand but very hard water can consume its treatment capacity more quickly than a similar property with softer incoming water.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Puretec SOL30-E3?

  • Water analysis before final sizing and programming
  • Suitable whole-property incoming water connection
  • Stable and level installation surface
  • Space for the 1125 × 350 × 490 mm cabinet plus service clearance
  • Suitable regeneration-water drain
  • ⅝-inch drain arrangement to current Puretec requirements
  • Separate ⅝-inch overflow drainage arrangement
  • Suitable non-switched mains electrical supply
  • Appropriate point-of-entry backflow protection
  • Pressure limiting where incoming pressure exceeds 500 kPa
  • Protection from freezing and unsuitable exposure
  • Easy access for salt replenishment
  • Access for valve and media servicing
  • Correct sequencing with other water-treatment equipment
  • Carbon pre-filtration where chlorine conditions require it
  • Installation before applicable hot-water equipment
  • Qualified plumbing installation
Chlorine protection matters. Puretec specifies a free-chlorine tolerance of 1 ppm. Higher levels can permanently damage the softening resin and are not covered by the manufacturer warranty. Puretec recommends carbon pre-filtration above that limit and recommends a carbon pre-filter more generally to protect against chlorine spikes and extend resin life.

Does the Puretec SOL30-E3 Need a Carbon Pre-Filter?

The SOL30-E3 and a whole-house carbon filter perform different treatment functions. The softener reduces hardness minerals through ion exchange. Carbon filtration can reduce chlorine loading before water reaches the Softrol™ resin.

Puretec specifically recommends a carbon pre-filter if free chlorine exceeds 1 ppm and also recommends carbon pre-filtration more generally to protect against chlorine spikes and prolong resin life.

An eligible Puretec pre-filter is also part of Puretec's conditional 10-year manufacturer-warranty pathway when the specified Puretec cartridges and Softrol™ media are routinely replaced in accordance with the warranty conditions.

What's Included With Puretec SOL30-E3 Installation?

Selected JR Installation Package

The live product and installation selector above remains the source of truth for the selected package, current pricing, installation timeframe and package-specific inclusions.

Connection & Commissioning

For an applicable standard installation, the softener is connected to suitable water, drainage and power provisions, checked for correct operation and commissioned using the property's water conditions.

Possible Additional Work

Carbon pre-filtration, bypass or blending equipment, pressure control, backflow equipment, additional valves, new electrical work, extended drainage, difficult pipework or relocation can require additional assessment or quotation.

How Much Does Puretec SOL30-E3 Installation Cost?

Current supplied-and-installed pricing is displayed in JR's live product and installation selector above. The selector should remain the pricing source rather than embedding a fixed long-term price into this content.

Final installation cost can vary with incoming-main access, drainage distance, power availability, pressure control, carbon pre-filtration, bypass requirements, backflow protection, pipe sizing and the amount of additional plumbing required.

Where the site's conditions fall outside the applicable standard package, JR's written or onsite quote pathway can be used before non-standard work proceeds.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Puretec SOL30-E3 Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Puretec SOL30-E3 across eligible Brisbane properties where water testing confirms hardness and a 30 L/min salt-regenerated softener suits the required household flow.

For a Brisbane installation, JR considers measured hardness, peak demand, incoming pressure, the water-main location, drainage, overflow routing, mains power and service space. Because the E3 controller calculates regeneration from actual treated-water use, correct hardness programming is a key part of commissioning.

If chlorine treatment is also required, a suitable Puretec whole-house carbon filter can be assessed upstream of the softener. Eligible JR service coverage also extends through Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Puretec SOL30-E3 Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water also supplies and installs the Puretec SOL30-E3 across eligible Gold Coast properties. It can suit residential installations where the 30 L/min service-flow rating is sufficient and the customer wants volumetric regeneration rather than a fixed-time E1 system.

The installation position needs a firm level base, access to a suitable drain, an independent overflow route, mains power and enough room to replenish salt and service the E3 valve. Where the preferred water-main position is a long distance from drainage or power, site-specific work may be required.

Existing whole-house filtration should also be considered. Carbon filtration and softening do different jobs and can form complementary treatment stages where both chlorine reduction and hardness removal are required.

Can the Puretec SOL30-E3 Replace My Existing Water Softener?

Replacing Another SOL30-E3

An exact replacement may be comparatively straightforward where the existing water connections, drainage, overflow, power and installation position remain suitable.

Replacing an SOL30-E1

The main treatment technology and published service flow are similar, but the control valve changes from time-based to volumetric regeneration. Commissioning and controller setup therefore differ.

Replacing Another Softener Brand

Potentially. Cabinet dimensions, valve orientation, connection height, drainage, electrical supply and bypass arrangements should be checked before treating it as a direct changeover.

Replacing an AntiScale System

This changes the treatment technology. A conventional ion-exchange softener reduces hardness minerals, while AntiScale treatment generally manages scale behaviour without removing hardness in the same way.

Puretec SOL30-E3 vs SOL30-E1

Feature Puretec SOL30-E3 Puretec SOL30-E1
Service Flow 30 L/min 30 L/min
Softening Technology Ion exchange Ion exchange
Control Valve Volumetric E3-matic Automatic E1-matic
Regeneration Trigger Water usage and programmed capacity Programmed time/day interval
If Little or No Water Is Used E3 avoids unnecessary regeneration based solely on time E1 follows its programmed regeneration schedule
Main Reason to Choose You prefer usage-based regeneration control You prefer a simpler time-based control strategy

Both models use conventional ion-exchange softening and carry a published 30 L/min service flow. The major difference is how the control valve decides when regeneration occurs.

Puretec SOL30-E3 vs SOL40-E3

Feature Puretec SOL30-E3 Puretec SOL40-E3
Service Flow 30 L/min 40 L/min
Published Capacity at 100 ppm Hardness 12,000 L 18,000 L
Control Volumetric E3-matic Volumetric E3-matic
Dry Weight 29 kg 37 kg
Cabinet Dimensions 1125 × 350 × 490 mm 1125 × 350 × 490 mm
Best Considered When 30 L/min suits peak household demand and the smaller resin capacity is appropriate Higher peak flow and greater treatment capacity are required

The SOL40-E3 should not automatically be chosen simply because it is larger. Correct selection should match measured hardness, peak flow and household water use.

How Often Does the Puretec SOL30-E3 Need Servicing?

The SOL30-E3 automatically manages regeneration, but the system still requires ongoing ownership and maintenance. Salt must be replenished, the Softrol™ resin must remain in serviceable condition and any upstream pre-filtration needs to be maintained.

Softener Salt

The brine cabinet has approximately 50 kg maximum storage. Puretec recommends keeping it around one-half to two-thirds full and replenishing the salt before the supply is exhausted.

Softrol™ Resin

Puretec lists the RMK-SOL30 replacement-media kit for the SOL30-E3. Media replacement should follow current Puretec guidance and actual resin condition.

Control-Valve Battery

The E3 PCB uses a CR2032 backup battery to retain the clock during power interruptions. Puretec specifies CR2032 replacement components for both E1 and E3 controls.

Where a Puretec whole-house pre-filter is installed, its cartridges also need routine replacement. Maintenance records should be retained where the customer wants to preserve eligibility for Puretec's conditional extended manufacturer warranty.

Puretec SOL30-E3 Warranty

6-Year Manufacturer Warranty

Puretec currently provides 1 year parts and labour plus 5 years parts only on the SOL30-E3. Consumables are excluded.

Conditional 10-Year Extension

Puretec states that the SOL30-E3 can qualify for a 10-year manufacturer warranty where an eligible Puretec pre-filter is installed and genuine Puretec cartridges and Softrol™ media are routinely replaced as required.

JR Lifetime Warranty Eligibility

JR's current SOL30-E3 product listing identifies the product as Lifetime Warranty eligible. JR's Lifetime Warranty is separate from Puretec's manufacturer warranty and remains subject to applicable JR terms and installation conditions.
