New Mini Stop Installation or Replacement

JR Gas & Water can supply and install new mini stop taps or replace existing leaking, seized, corroded or damaged isolation valves throughout Greater Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Mini stop taps provide local isolation to individual plumbing fixtures, allowing the water supply to a toilet, basin, sink or appliance to be turned off without shutting down water to the entire property.

They can be installed as part of a new fixture connection or retrofitted to suitable existing plumbing.

What's Included?

Our standard mini stop installation or replacement includes:

  • Supply of a suitable mini stop isolation valve

  • Installation of a new mini stop or removal of the existing valve

  • Connection to the existing suitable water point

  • Connection to the existing suitable flexi hose or fixture

  • Sealing of threaded connections where required

  • Testing under mains water pressure

  • Operational testing of the isolation valve

  • Leak testing

  • Basic clean-up of the immediate work area

For a new installation, the existing water point must be suitably positioned and compatible with a mini stop installation.

Where Can Mini Stops Be Installed?

Mini stop isolation valves are commonly used for:

  • Toilet cisterns

  • Bathroom basin mixers

  • Kitchen sink mixers

  • Laundry sinks and mixers

  • Dishwasher connections

  • Some washing machine connections

  • Water filtration systems

  • Other compatible plumbing fixtures

New Mini Stop Installation

A new mini stop can often be added where a fixture currently has no convenient local isolation.

This can make future servicing easier and allows the connected fixture to be isolated without shutting off the entire property's water supply.

Common applications include:

  • Installing a new toilet

  • Adding a new basin or vanity

  • Installing a new kitchen mixer

  • Plumbing a new laundry fixture

  • Adding isolation during renovation work

  • Upgrading older plumbing that does not have individual fixture isolation

Where additional pipework or relocation of the water point is required, this may be quoted separately.

Mini Stop Replacement

Existing mini stops may require replacement if they:

  • Leak from the body or spindle

  • Are seized open

  • Will not completely shut off

  • Are heavily corroded

  • Have damaged handles

  • Leak when operated

  • Have deteriorated threads or connections

  • Are being disturbed during another plumbing repair

Older valves can sometimes appear functional until they are operated, so replacement may also be recommended during other plumbing work.

Why Install Mini Stop Taps?

A functioning mini stop allows one fixture to be isolated independently.

This means that if a toilet, mixer or flexi hose develops a problem, the affected fixture can often be shut off while the rest of the property's water supply remains operational.

They also make future servicing and replacement work considerably easier.

Mini Stop & Flexi Hose Installation

Mini stop taps and flexible braided hoses are commonly installed together.

JR Gas & Water can supply and install:

  • New mini stop only

  • Replacement mini stop only

  • New flexi hose

  • Replacement flexi hose

  • Mini stop and flexi hose together

Where the existing hose is old, corroded, kinked or damaged, replacing both components during the same visit can be worthwhile.

Standard Mini Stop or Flood Stop Valve?

Customers can also consider upgrading to a flood stop isolation valve where suitable.

Standard Mini Stop Tap

Provides:

  • Manual water isolation

  • Local fixture shut-off

  • Easy servicing access

  • Simple and reliable operation

Flood Stop Isolation Valve

Provides:

  • Manual isolation

  • Local fixture shut-off

  • Automatic flood-stop protection under specified high-flow conditions

A flood stop valve may be worth considering for fixtures connected using flexible braided hoses.

Toilet Mini Stop Installation or Replacement

Mini stops are commonly installed beside toilets to isolate the cistern water supply.

We can:

  • Install a new toilet mini stop

  • Replace an existing toilet isolation valve

  • Replace the toilet flexi hose

  • Upgrade to a flood stop valve where suitable

Basin & Kitchen Mini Stops

Kitchen and bathroom mixers often have separate hot and cold isolation valves beneath the fixture.

If no isolation valves are currently installed, suitable mini stops can often be added.

Where existing hot and cold mini stops are of similar age or condition, replacing both together may be more practical.

Existing Plumbing Conditions

Standard installation assumes the existing plumbing connection is accessible and suitable.

Additional work may be required for:

  • Relocation of water points

  • Additional pipework

  • Damaged copper pipe

  • Corroded fittings

  • Damaged threads

  • Inaccessible connections

  • Wall or cabinetry alterations

  • Unsupported pipework

  • Non-standard fittings

Any additional work can be assessed before proceeding where reasonably possible.

What's Not Included?

Standard mini stop installation or replacement does not include:

  • Relocation of water points

  • Significant pipework alterations

  • Replacement of taps or mixers

  • Replacement of toilet cistern components

  • Opening walls or floors

  • Cabinet modifications

  • Water damage repairs

  • Rectification of unrelated plumbing defects
