New Installation or Replacement?

Both are covered by the same installation product.

You do not need to already have a food waste disposer installed.

For a standard new installation, JR Gas & Water can complete the normal under-sink plumbing alterations required to connect the disposer to suitable existing sink drainage.

For replacements, we can disconnect and remove the existing disposer from the sink before installing the new unit.

Significant relocation or reconstruction of kitchen drainage is outside the standard installation.

What's Included in Standard Installation?

Standard installation includes:

  • Installation of one food waste disposer

  • Customer-supplied or JR-supplied unit depending on the selected option

  • New installations

  • Replacement installations

  • Removal of an existing disposer from the sink where applicable

  • Mounting beneath a suitable kitchen sink

  • Standard disposer flange and mounting installation

  • Connection to existing kitchen sink drainage

  • Basic modification of under-sink waste pipework where required

  • Standard trap/waste connection alterations required immediately beneath the sink

  • Connection of manufacturer-supplied discharge components

  • Connection to suitable existing electrical power

  • Connection of the supplied switching/activation system where applicable

  • Leak testing

  • Drainage testing

  • Operational testing

  • Final plumbing inspection of JR Gas & Water's completed work

JR's existing kitchen scope already includes waste alterations, fixture fit-off, InSinkErators, appliance connection checks and leak testing.

Basic Waste Alterations Included

Installing a food waste disposer often requires the pipework immediately beneath the kitchen sink to be rearranged.

The standard installation includes basic alterations to accessible under-sink waste plumbing required to connect the disposer where the existing drainage is suitable.

This may include:

  • Reconfiguring the immediate sink waste connection

  • Altering the trap arrangement

  • Connecting the disposer discharge to the existing waste system

  • Removal of redundant minor fittings

  • Standard waste fittings required for installation

It does not include major drainage relocation or replacement of defective kitchen drainage.

Sink Requirements

The kitchen sink must be suitable for installation of a food waste disposer.

Standard installation assumes:

  • The sink is structurally suitable

  • The sink has a suitable waste opening or compatible disposer connection

  • There is sufficient space beneath the sink

  • The sink and cabinet are readily accessible

  • Existing drainage is serviceable

  • The disposer can be mounted without structural cabinetry modifications

Some unusual sink designs, thick sinks or non-standard waste openings may require additional mounting components or adaptors.

InSinkErator states its disposers can be installed in most suitable kitchen sinks, subject to the sink and installation arrangement.

Double-Bowl Sinks

Food waste disposers can commonly be installed to one bowl of a double-bowl kitchen sink.

Depending on the existing waste arrangement, additional fittings or a suitable double-bowl connection arrangement may be required.

Major reconstruction of existing double-bowl waste plumbing is not included in the standard installation.

Electrical Requirements

A suitable existing electrical supply must be available beneath or adjacent to the kitchen sink.

Standard installation does not include:

  • Installation of a new power point

  • New electrical circuits

  • Relocation of power points

  • Electrical repairs

  • Hard-wiring changes

  • Switch wiring alterations

Any required electrical work must be completed by a licensed electrician.

Model 46 Switching Requirements

The InSinkErator Model 46 does not include an air switch as standard.

A suitable existing switching arrangement must therefore be available, or an optional InSinkErator air-switch kit can be added separately.

If additional electrical work is required, this is not included in the standard plumbing installation.

Model 66 Air Switch

The InSinkErator Model 66 includes a built-in air switch.

Standard installation includes fitting the supplied air-switch system where a suitable mounting location is available.

Drilling or modification of difficult materials such as stone, engineered stone, porcelain or other specialist benchtop surfaces is not automatically included.

Where a suitable existing opening is available, it can generally be used subject to compatibility.

Customer-Supplied Units

If selecting Install Customer-Supplied, your disposer must:

  • Be onsite when the plumber arrives

  • Be suitable for Australian installation

  • Be compatible with the kitchen sink

  • Include its required mounting hardware

  • Include the correct discharge fittings

  • Include its required switching components

  • Be complete and undamaged

JR Gas & Water is not responsible for missing components or compatibility issues with customer-supplied appliances.

Existing Food Waste Disposer Removal

Where an existing food waste disposer is being replaced, normal disconnection and removal of the disposer from the sink is included.

This includes disconnecting it from:

  • Sink mounting

  • Waste plumbing

  • Existing plug-in electrical connection where applicable

Offsite disposal of the old appliance is not included unless specifically stated or selected.

What's Not Included?

Unless specifically stated or purchased separately, standard installation does not include:

  • Major kitchen drainage relocation

  • New drainage runs through walls or floors

  • Extensive pipework through cabinetry

  • Replacement of defective existing drainage

  • Clearing blocked kitchen drains

  • Major sink modifications

  • Sink replacement

  • Cabinetry alterations

  • Cabinet removal

  • Benchtop alterations

  • Specialist stone or porcelain drilling

  • Structural modifications

  • Electrical work

  • New power points

  • New electrical circuits

  • Electrical switch installation or rewiring

  • Repair of faulty electrical services

  • Replacement of damaged customer-supplied equipment

  • Specialist adaptors not normally required for standard installation

  • Offsite disposal of the old disposer unless specifically included

JR's broader terms similarly separate plumbing fit-off work from cabinetry, benchtops, structural works and other trades unless those works are expressly included.

Why Choose an InSinkErator?

A food waste disposer provides a convenient way to deal with suitable food scraps directly at the kitchen sink.

Food waste is ground into small particles and flushed through the drainage system rather than sitting in the kitchen rubbish bin. InSinkErator describes both the Model 46 and Model 66 as blade-free food-waste disposers designed for household use.

Model 46 vs Model 66

Choose the Model 46 if:

  • You have a smaller household

  • Usage will be relatively moderate

  • You want the lower-cost option

  • You already have a suitable switching arrangement

  • You don't require the additional sound reduction and power of the Model 66

Choose the Model 66 if:

  • You have a larger household

  • You expect more frequent usage

  • You want the more powerful 0.75 hp motor

  • Lower operating noise is important

  • You want the supplied built-in air switch

  • You prefer the longer 4-year manufacturer guarantee

InSinkErator positions the Model 46 as its entry-level standard model and the Model 66 as the top model in its traditional standard range.
