Flexi Hose Replacement

Replace old, damaged or deteriorated flexible water hoses before they become a costly burst-water emergency.

JR Gas & Water can inspect and replace flexible braided water hoses connected to taps, toilets and other plumbing fixtures throughout Greater Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Flexible hoses are commonly installed beneath kitchen sinks, bathroom basins, toilets and laundry fixtures. Over time, the internal hose or external stainless-steel braid can deteriorate, corrode, kink or fail.

A failed flexi hose can release a significant amount of water very quickly, particularly if nobody is home to shut the water supply off.

What Is Included?

Our flexi hose replacement service includes:

  • Removal of the existing flexible water hose

  • Supply and installation of a suitable replacement flexi hose

  • Inspection of the connection points

  • Inspection for obvious corrosion, damage or deterioration

  • Reconnection to the existing tap, toilet or plumbing fixture

  • Testing under mains water pressure

  • Leak testing after installation

  • Basic clean-up of the immediate work area

Where multiple ageing flexi hoses are installed throughout the property, replacing them together can often be more practical than waiting for individual hoses to fail.

Where Are Flexi Hoses Used?

Flexible plumbing hoses are commonly found on:

  • Kitchen sink mixers

  • Bathroom basin mixers

  • Laundry taps and mixers

  • Toilet cisterns

  • Bidet seats and toilet attachments

  • Dishwasher connections

  • Some washing machine and appliance connections

  • Other fixtures connected to the water supply

If you're unsure whether a hose needs replacing, JR Gas & Water can inspect the existing connection and recommend the appropriate repair.

Signs Your Flexi Hose May Need Replacing

Book an inspection or replacement if you notice:

  • Rust or corrosion on the stainless-steel braid

  • Brown or discoloured sections

  • Fraying or broken braid

  • Bulging in the hose

  • Kinked or twisted hoses

  • Water droplets around either connection

  • Moisture inside the cupboard

  • Green or white corrosion around fittings

  • Hoses rubbing against sharp surfaces

  • An unknown or ageing installation

A flexi hose does not need to be actively leaking to warrant replacement.

Replace Multiple Flexi Hoses at the Same Time

If one flexi hose in the property is showing signs of age or deterioration, other hoses installed at approximately the same time may be in similar condition.

JR Gas & Water can replace multiple flexi hoses during the same visit, including hoses beneath basins, sinks and toilets.

This is particularly useful when moving into an older property, completing preventative maintenance or replacing hoses that are already showing signs of corrosion.

Burst Flexi Hose?

If a flexible hose has already burst:

  1. Turn off the property's main water supply immediately if it is safe to do so.

  2. Turn off the local isolation valve where available.

  3. Avoid electrical equipment or outlets affected by water.

  4. Arrange a plumber to replace the failed hose and inspect the surrounding connections.

If substantial water damage has occurred, additional restoration or electrical work may also be required.

Why Flexi Hoses Fail

Flexible hoses can deteriorate because of:

  • Age

  • Corrosion

  • Poor-quality components

  • Excessive twisting

  • Incorrect installation

  • Excessive tension

  • Kinking

  • Damage to the external braid

  • Movement of the connected fixture

  • Aggressive water conditions

  • Poorly positioned or unsupported connections

The condition of the tap, isolation valve and adjoining plumbing also affects whether a straightforward hose replacement can be completed.

What's Not Included?

Standard flexi hose replacement does not include:

  • Replacement of taps or mixers

  • Replacement of toilet cistern components

  • Replacement of damaged isolation valves

  • Repair of damaged pipework

  • Moving existing water points

  • Cabinetry repairs or modifications

  • Water-damage restoration

  • Electrical repairs

  • Access through walls, floors or cabinetry

  • Rectification of unrelated plumbing defects

If additional work is required, we'll explain the issue before proceeding.

Existing Isolation Valves & Fittings

Flexi hoses connect to existing plumbing fittings and isolation valves.

If an existing valve, tap, mixer or connection is seized, damaged, leaking or unsuitable for reuse, additional repairs may be required before the new hose can be safely installed.

Older fittings can occasionally fail when disturbed even where there was no visible leak beforehand.

Professional Flexi Hose Replacement

Flexible hoses are small components, but failure can cause extensive property damage.

JR Gas & Water provides professional plumbing repairs throughout Greater Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Redlands and the Gold Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should flexi hoses be replaced?

There isn't one replacement interval that suits every installation. Condition, installation quality, hose construction, water conditions and environment all affect service life.

Hoses showing corrosion, fraying, bulging, leaking or other deterioration should be assessed and replaced rather than waiting for failure.

Can you replace every flexi hose in my house?

Yes. We can replace multiple accessible flexi hoses during the same booking where the existing fixtures and plumbing connections are suitable.

Do you replace toilet flexi hoses?

Yes. Flexible hoses supplying toilet cisterns are one of the most common hoses we replace.

Do you replace basin and kitchen mixer hoses?

Yes. We can replace accessible flexible water connections beneath basins, kitchen sinks and laundry fixtures.

Some mixer taps use manufacturer-specific internal hoses. If the hose forms part of the mixer itself rather than the water connection to the mixer, replacement of the mixer or a manufacturer-specific part may be required.

Can you replace a leaking flexi hose?

Yes. If the hose is leaking, turn off the nearest isolation valve or main water supply where possible and arrange replacement as soon as practical.

Should I replace all my hoses if one fails?

Not necessarily, but if the hoses were installed at a similar time it is sensible to inspect the others. Multiple hoses showing similar age or deterioration can usually be replaced during the same visit.

Can a flexi hose burst without warning?

Yes. Some hoses show obvious deterioration first, while others can fail with relatively little warning. Periodic inspection of accessible hoses can help identify visible problems before failure.
