OPEN-VENTED UNDER-SINK HOT WATER

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus open-vented under-sink storage water heater across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The SNU 10 Plus is a 10 litre non-pressurised point-of-use water heater designed specifically for one isolated kitchen sink. It stores hot water directly beneath the sink and must be paired with compatible Stiebel Eltron open-vented tapware.

This is fundamentally different from a mains-pressure SHC water heater. The SNU must never be subjected to mains pressure downstream of the specialised tap, and the tap outlet forms part of the appliance's venting arrangement.

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus at a glance: article 204982 is a 10L open-vented under-sink storage heater designed for one isolated kitchen sink. It provides approximately 19L of mixed water at 40°C, uses a 2.2kW / 9.1A single-phase electrical supply at 240V, offers a 30–85°C temperature range and measures approximately 506 × 290 × 282mm. Specialised Stiebel Eltron open-vented tapware is mandatory.

PRODUCT AT A GLANCE

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Compact Storage Hot Water

10L Storage

Stores 10 litres of heated water immediately beneath the kitchen sink.

19L Mixed Water

Stiebel Eltron publishes approximately 19 litres of mixed water at 40°C from a single draw-off.

Single Sink

Designed specifically for one isolated draw-off point rather than multiple outlets.

Open Vented

A non-pressurised system that must use compatible Stiebel Eltron open-vented tapware.

WHO IT SUITS

Where Does the SNU 10 Plus Work Best?

The SNU 10 Plus is designed for a very specific purpose: providing stored hot water to one isolated kitchen sink where a compact local system is more practical than extending a long hot-water pipe run from the property's main water heater.

Kitchen Sink

Ideal where a kitchen sink needs its own local stored hot water supply and suitable open-vented tapware can be fitted.

Office Kitchenette

Can suit staff kitchens and tea rooms where one sink has modest but regular hot water demand.

Remote Single Sink

Useful where the sink is far from the property's main hot water system and long pipework causes excessive wait time and water wastage.

Not for bathroom basins requiring a tempering valve or TMV. Stiebel Eltron's current Australian SNU Plus datasheet specifically states that the open-vented SNU is not suitable for installation at a basin where a tempering valve or thermostatic mixing valve is required.

OPEN-VENTED DESIGN

What Does Open Vented Mean?

The SNU 10 Plus is a non-pressurised water heater. Cold water flows through the specialised open-vented tap into the appliance, and the hot-water outlet remains hydraulically open through the tap spout.

No Stored Mains Pressure

The internal storage tank is not designed to operate under normal mains-water pressure.

The Tap Is Part of the System

The specialised tap performs the venting function required for correct appliance operation.

Outlet Must Stay Open

The tap outlet must not be blocked, sealed or modified in a way that can pressurise the water heater.

Stiebel Eltron installation rule: only a non-pressurised open-vented tap designed for this appliance type may be used. The SNU should never be connected as though it were a conventional mains-pressure storage heater.

SNU VS SHC

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus vs SHC 10 AU

The SNU 10 Plus and SHC 10 AU are both compact 10L under-sink storage heaters, but their plumbing systems are fundamentally different.

Specification SNU 10 Plus SHC 10 AU
Storage Capacity 10L 10L
Hydraulic Type Open vented / non-pressurised Mains pressure / pressurised
Number of Outlets One One or more suitable nearby outlets
Tapware Specialised Stiebel Eltron open-vented tap required Compatible conventional pressure tapware
Mixed Water at 40°C 19L 15.3L
Rated Output at 240V 2.2kW 1.6kW
Main Application One isolated kitchen sink Pressurised point-of-use hot water where compatible installation requirements are met
They are not interchangeable without considering the plumbing. If an existing sink has normal pressure tapware, the SHC may be the more appropriate product. If an SNU is selected, the correct open-vented tapware must form part of the installation.

HOW IT WORKS

How Does the Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Work?

The SNU stores heated water underneath the sink. When the hot side of the specialised tap is opened, incoming cold water enters the bottom of the heater and displaces hot water through the open outlet to the tap.

Water Is Stored Hot

The 10L plastic storage tank maintains a local reserve of hot water for the sink.

The Tap Controls Filling

The open-vented mixer controls incoming cold water to the appliance rather than placing a normal pressure valve on its outlet.

The Heater Reheats

The 2.2kW element reheats the tank automatically according to the selected temperature setting.

A small amount of water movement through the tap can be part of normal open-vented operation. The appliance and tap are designed as a matched hydraulic system rather than as separate interchangeable components.

CAPACITY

How Much Hot Water Does the SNU 10 Plus Provide?

The SNU stores 10 litres of hot water, but mixing that stored water with cold water at the tap increases the available volume at a normal usable sink temperature.

10L Stored

The physical storage tank holds 10 litres of heated water.

19L Mixed at 40°C

Stiebel Eltron publishes approximately 19 litres of mixed water at 40°C from a single draw-off.

Actual Use Varies

Usable volume depends on the selected storage temperature, incoming cold-water temperature and the temperature selected at the tap.

This is kitchen-sink capacity, not whole-home capacity. The 19L figure does not make the SNU suitable for showers, baths or multiple hot-water fixtures.

TAPWARE REQUIREMENT

Which Tap Is Required With the SNU 10 Plus?

A Stiebel Eltron-compatible open-vented sink mixer is mandatory. A normal pressure mixer cannot simply be connected to the SNU tank.

Fixed Tap Options

Stiebel Eltron offers compatible fixed-spout open-vented tapware for suitable sink applications.

Gooseneck Options

Compatible gooseneck open-vented mixers are also available where the sink layout suits that tap style.

Tap Outlet Is the Vent

The outlet must remain unobstructed because it forms part of the non-pressurised hydraulic system.

Do not fit a normal aerator, hose or outlet restriction unless it is specifically approved for non-pressurised water heaters. Stiebel Eltron warns that blocking or restricting the tap outlet can subject the SNU tank to pressure.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install an SNU 10 Plus?

One isolated kitchen sink that suits the intended point-of-use application.
Compatible Stiebel Eltron open-vented tapware fitted as part of the hydraulic system.
Suitable under-sink cupboard space for the 506 × 290 × 282mm appliance plus pipework and service access.
Load-bearing wall or mounting surface capable of securely supporting the appliance.
Water connections facing upward in accordance with Stiebel Eltron's under-sink installation instructions.
Suitable cold-water supply within the pressure limitations of the selected open-vented tapware.
Suitable 240V electrical supply and accessible power point for the appliance plug.
Accessible installation position for future operation, inspection and servicing.

The SNU must never be pressurised. Never add a shut-off valve, conventional mixer or other restriction between the water heater and the open-vented tap outlet in a way that can create pressure inside the storage tank.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

Does the SNU 10 Plus Need Special Electrical Power?

The SNU 10 Plus is a single-phase plug-in appliance. At 240V, Stiebel Eltron specifies a rated output of 2.2kW and approximately 9.1A current.

Single Phase

No three-phase supply is required.

10A Protection

Stiebel Eltron specifies 10A fuse or circuit protection for the current SNU 10 Plus.

Plug-In Appliance

The unit includes a standard plug and cable-management space at the rear of the appliance for excess cable.

The power point still needs to be suitable and accessible. Electrical installation requirements continue to apply even though the appliance uses a plug rather than a hard-wired high-current connection.

JR INSTALLATION

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus across eligible Brisbane service areas for suitable single-sink kitchen and kitchenette applications.

A common Brisbane use is a kitchen, office or secondary space where the sink sits a long distance from the property's main hot water system. Installing a local SNU can reduce the wait for hot water and the amount of water sent down the drain before hot water reaches the sink.

Because the SNU uses a specialised open-vented tap, JR can also check whether the existing sink and tap configuration suits a direct replacement or whether a different under-sink system such as the mains-pressure SHC range is the better installation pathway.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water provides Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus installation across eligible Gold Coast service areas for homes, offices and light-commercial properties needing local hot water at a single kitchen sink.

The 10L SNU can be particularly useful in office kitchenettes, workshops and secondary kitchen spaces where one sink needs regular but relatively small quantities of hot water and a full-size water heater would be excessive.

For sites using normal pressure tapware or needing more than one fixture supplied by the same heater, JR can compare the mains-pressure SHC range or other under-sink systems before the product is selected.

WARRANTY & OWNERSHIP

Stiebel Eltron SNU 10 Plus Warranty

Stiebel Eltron currently lists a 5-year full parts and labour warranty for domestic SNU 5 / 10 Plus installations, subject to its current Australian warranty terms and conditions.

Commercial use carries different manufacturer warranty coverage. Compatible Stiebel Eltron open-vented tapware also has its own separate warranty terms.

JR's live SNU 10 Plus page currently identifies the system as eligible for JR's Lifetime Warranty program. JR Lifetime Warranty eligibility is separate from Stiebel Eltron's manufacturer coverage and remains subject to JR's program terms.

COMMON QUESTIONS
