A 3HR Ready hot water setup is designed to help your electric storage hot water system heat during the 3 hour free power window, then store that hot water for use later in the day.

Instead of relying on a basic timer, this system uses Catch Power integration to control and monitor when the hot water system heats. The setup is designed around fast daytime recovery, solar support where suitable, and better visibility over hot water energy use.

How the system heats your hot water

During the free power window, the Catch Power relay allows the hot water system to run during the preferred heating period. On a dual element system, this helps the tank reheat faster within the available 3 hour window, so the stored hot water can be used later for showers, bathrooms, kitchens and laundry.

The tank does not need to heat at the exact time you use the hot water. It stores heated water, which makes electric storage hot water one of the most practical appliances to connect to a free daytime power strategy.

How power is fed into the hot water system

A 3HR Ready installation uses a controlled electrical setup designed to feed power to the hot water system at the right time.

The package includes Catch Power integration, dual-circuit control, manual bypass and a dual inlet isolator as part of the setup. This allows the system to prioritise heating during the 3 hour free power period while still giving the home a backup pathway when additional heating is required.

Where solar is available and suitable, the system can also be set up to support supplementary solar heating outside the free window when demand is high or extra recovery is needed.

What is Catch Power?

Catch Power is the smart control and monitoring part of the setup. It helps manage the hot water load, supports solar integration where suitable, and gives better visibility over how the system is operating.
