    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What Is the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One Heat Pump?

The Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One Unit is a commercial electric heat pump hot water system designed to produce and store hot water using energy collected from surrounding air.

It uses refrigeration technology to transfer heat into stored water rather than relying entirely on conventional electric resistance heating.

This approach can significantly reduce the electricity required to heat water under suitable operating conditions, making heat pump technology an option for businesses seeking to manage ongoing energy consumption.

The TITAN 340L combines the storage tank and refrigeration system into a single integrated unit. This provides a different installation arrangement from the Quantum TITAN 340L Split System, which uses a separate refrigeration unit.

The integrated configuration may simplify equipment positioning where sufficient space, airflow and service clearances are available in one location.

The model is intended for commercial applications where daily hot water production, operating efficiency and practical equipment access are important considerations.

Why Choose the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One?

Commercial-Duty Performance

Designed for commercial hot water applications with a larger compressor than typical domestic systems.

High Daily Production

Supplied information identifies potential hot water production of up to 3,500 litres per day.

Integrated Design

Combines refrigeration equipment and hot water storage in one unit, avoiding a separate remote refrigeration installation.

Energy-Efficient Heating

Uses ambient air as a heat source to reduce reliance on direct electric resistance heating.

Scalable Commercial Options

Can be considered for standalone or manifolded configurations, subject to suitable commercial system design.

No Roof Solar Collectors

Air source heat pump technology does not require roof-mounted solar thermal collectors.

COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS

Where Is the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One Suitable?

The Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One is designed for commercial applications where a conventional residential hot water system may not provide the required daily production or recovery performance.

Hotels & Motels

May suit accommodation properties with regular guest showering and bathroom hot water demand.

Serviced Apartments

May be considered for shared or centralised hot water applications with suitable distribution and storage design.

Aged Care Facilities

May form part of an appropriately designed system that addresses resident hot water demand, temperature control and hygiene requirements.

Healthcare Facilities

May be considered for selected applications where the complete hot water system meets relevant operational and regulatory requirements.

Commercial Buildings

May suit commercial premises requiring substantial hot water for amenities, staff facilities or other suitable uses.

Industrial Facilities

May be considered for compatible industrial amenities or applications within the system's temperature and production capabilities.

Commercial sizing matters: The appropriate system depends on actual daily consumption, peak hourly demand, required delivery temperatures, recovery time and whether standby capacity is needed.

How Much Hot Water Can the Quantum TITAN 340L Produce?

The supplied product information identifies a potential production capacity of up to 3,500 litres of hot water per day.

This figure is different from the unit's physical storage capacity. The TITAN 340L stores 340 litres of water, while its heat pump can continue reheating water during operation.

Daily production depends on factors including ambient air temperature, incoming water temperature, target storage temperature, heat pump operating hours and recovery performance.

For commercial properties, it is particularly important to distinguish between total daily production and the volume of hot water available during a short peak-demand period.

For example, a motel may have substantial hot water demand concentrated around morning and evening shower periods. Even if the total daily consumption falls within the system's potential production range, the storage and recovery capacity must still be sufficient during these peaks.

JR Gas & Water assesses both daily hot water consumption and peak demand before recommending a commercial heat pump configuration.

How Does the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One Work?

1. Ambient air is collected: The integrated heat pump uses surrounding air as a source of thermal energy.

2. Heat is absorbed: Refrigerant circulating through the heat pump absorbs energy from the surrounding air.

3. Heat is concentrated: The compressor increases the refrigerant's pressure and temperature.

4. Heat is transferred: The refrigeration system transfers heat into the water heating arrangement.

5. Hot water is stored: Heated water is retained in the integrated 340 litre storage cylinder.

6. Water is reheated: The heat pump operates according to its controls and operating conditions to restore stored hot water after use.

By transferring heat rather than generating all of it through electric resistance, the system can achieve improved heating efficiency compared with conventional electric storage systems.

What Are the Benefits of the All-In-One Design?

The main distinction of the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One is its integrated refrigeration and storage arrangement.

Unlike a split system, the All-In-One does not require the refrigeration unit to be installed separately from the storage tank.

This can reduce the need to plan separate equipment positions and interconnecting runs between a remote refrigeration unit and cylinder.

It may be particularly useful for commercial properties where a suitable outdoor equipment area is available and a single integrated unit provides a practical installation layout.

However, an All-In-One heat pump still needs appropriate airflow, structural support, electrical supply, drainage and service access.

The complete unit must be positioned where the refrigeration system can operate within the manufacturer's installation requirements.

Can Multiple Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One Units Be Connected Together?

The supplied product information identifies the Quantum TITAN range as suitable for standalone operation or manifolded commercial configurations.

A manifolded arrangement may allow multiple heat pumps to form part of a larger commercial hot water system where one unit does not provide sufficient storage or recovery capacity.

This can be useful for commercial applications with higher demand, although the complete arrangement must be appropriately designed.

A multiple-unit installation may require additional consideration of hydraulic balancing, distribution pipework, system controls, electrical capacity, maintenance isolation and operational redundancy.

JR Gas & Water can assess the installation requirements and identify where further technical design or specialist engineering is needed.

An existing commercial electric storage installation should not automatically be assumed electrically compatible with the new heat pump.

Depending on the site, installation may require electrical alterations or upgrades completed by appropriately licensed electrical personnel.

JR considers electrical suitability as part of the overall installation assessment.

How Do You Size a Quantum TITAN 340L for Commercial Hot Water Demand?

Commercial hot water sizing should account for the way a property uses hot water throughout the day, not just the total storage volume.

A property may have moderate average demand but very high consumption during certain operating periods.

A commercial assessment may consider:

Daily hot water consumption
Peak hourly demand
Number and type of connected fixtures
Simultaneous hot water use
Required storage temperature
Incoming cold water temperature
Available heat pump recovery time
Business operating hours
Existing storage and distribution arrangements
Backup or redundancy requirements

A single Quantum TITAN 340L may suit some commercial applications, while larger facilities may require additional storage, multiple heat pumps or another appropriately designed system.

How Energy Efficient Is the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One?

The Quantum TITAN 340L uses air source heat pump technology to transfer thermal energy from the surrounding air into stored water.

This can reduce the electrical energy required for water heating compared with conventional electric resistance systems.

For commercial properties with substantial daily hot water consumption, reduced electricity use may offer meaningful long-term operating cost benefits.

Actual performance depends on ambient conditions, incoming water temperature, target storage temperature, operating schedules, electricity tariffs and usage patterns.

A commercial comparison should consider the current system's measured or estimated energy consumption and the proposed heat pump's rated performance under comparable conditions.

Specific savings percentages should not be assumed without an appropriate assessment.

Can the Quantum TITAN 340L Reduce Commercial Energy Costs and Emissions?

Heat pump technology can help reduce the electricity needed to produce hot water compared with conventional electric resistance heating.

Where electricity consumption is reduced, associated greenhouse gas emissions may also decrease, depending on the electricity source and the system being replaced.

For businesses with high hot water demand, this can make commercial heat pumps worth considering as part of an energy efficiency or electrification strategy.

Actual operating savings and emissions reductions depend on the property's existing equipment, energy tariffs, operating conditions and the final system design.

Are Rebates Available for the Quantum TITAN 340L All-In-One?

The supplied product information identifies potential rebates for eligible Quantum commercial heat pump installations.

However, rebate eligibility depends on current government or certificate-based incentive programs, approved product listings, installation circumstances and scheme requirements.

Not every commercial installation qualifies for a rebate, and the availability or value of incentives can change.

Businesses should confirm eligibility before relying on a rebate when comparing installation costs.

Where applicable, the proposed installation should be assessed against current program requirements before proceeding.

How Do STC Rebates Work?

Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs, are part of the Australian Government’s renewable energy scheme. Eligible heat pump and solar hot water systems can generate STCs, which carry a monetary value. JR Gas & Water applies this value as an upfront rebate so customers see a reduced out-of-pocket price on eligible products rather than needing to claim anything later themselves.

For clarity, JR Gas & Water uses a flat-rate STC rebate of $1,000 including GST on eligible systems. This means the price shown online is the customer’s out-of-pocket price after the rebate has already been applied. It is not the full gross system price before the rebate.

As an example, if a system is advertised online at $4,000, the gross system price is $5,000, less the $1,000 STC rebate, leaving the advertised out-of-pocket amount of $4,000.

This upfront rebate is offered on the basis that the installation will be completed compliantly, the system will remain eligible for STCs, and JR Gas & Water will be able to create, process, and receive the value of those certificates after installation. We handle the STC paperwork and process behind the scenes, but the rebate is conditional and relies on the job proceeding correctly from start to finish.

Who Is Eligible?

In general, customers may be eligible for the STC rebate where they are purchasing an approved solar hot water system, heat pump hot water system, or other eligible product that qualifies under the applicable scheme rules at the time of installation.

Eligibility generally requires that:
the product itself is STC eligible,
the installation address is eligible,
the system is installed in Australia,
the installation is completed in a compliant manner,
the system is capable of being properly verified,
and the customer provides any required information, declarations, signatures, and supporting documents needed to process the STCs.

Where JR Gas & Water advertises an eligible system with the rebate already applied, the customer is agreeing that the STCs will be assigned to JR Gas & Water or its nominated agent as part of the sale. That assignment is what allows the rebate to be applied upfront instead of the customer paying full price.

When Is the Rebate Not Available or Not Valid?

The STC rebate is not an automatic discount in every situation. It is only available where the installation proceeds fully and remains eligible for STC creation and assignment.

A customer may not be eligible, or may be required to repay the rebate amount, where:

the order is cancelled after rebate pricing has been applied,
the customer declines installation,
the site is not ready,
access is refused,
the installation cannot proceed due to hazards, animals, obstructions, or unsafe conditions,
the customer wants to keep the STCs personally,
required paperwork is not signed or returned,
incorrect or incomplete information is provided,
the property or system turns out not to qualify,
the quoted eligible product is changed,
a third party interferes with, alters, completes, disconnects, reconnects, or modifies the installation,
required compliance or upgrade works are refused,
or the installation cannot be lawfully completed in a way that allows the STCs to be validly claimed.

This also includes situations where another contractor performs part of the work in a way that affects eligibility, or where changes made by the customer or another trade prevent JR Gas & Water from receiving the STC benefit that the upfront rebate was based on.

What Happens If the Customer Does Not Proceed?

Where a customer accepts pricing that already includes the STC rebate and then cancels, postpones, declines installation, refuses access, or otherwise prevents the installation from being completed, JR Gas & Water may recover the full $1,000 STC rebate amount in addition to any other applicable cancellation, postponement, restocking, freight, attendance, or administrative charges.

This is because the lower advertised price was offered on the basis that JR Gas & Water would receive the benefit of the STCs after compliant completion of the installation. If the job does not proceed, that STC benefit cannot be recovered by JR Gas & Water, so the rebate amount becomes payable.

Can the Customer Keep the STCs Instead?

Yes, but not at the rebate-adjusted price.

If the customer wishes to keep, trade, or claim the STCs themselves, they must notify JR Gas & Water in writing before the order is accepted, or at the latest before installation begins. In that case, the customer must pay the full $1,000 including GST rebate amount before installation unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Heat pump hot water systems are one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat water, using ambient air to produce hot water while consuming significantly less electricity than a conventional electric storage system.

Like any appliance with refrigeration and mechanical components, regular maintenance is essential to maximise efficiency, maintain reliable performance and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Many manufacturers recommend routine inspections and servicing throughout the life of the system.

Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months

Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your heat pump system.

Homeowners should:

  • Carefully operate the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Operate the Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (where fitted).
  • Remove leaves, grass and debris from around the outdoor unit.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet remain clear.
  • Check the condensate drain is free-flowing.
  • Inspect for obvious water leaks or corrosion.
  • Listen for any unusual noises during operation.

Why is this important?

Heat pumps rely on unrestricted airflow to operate efficiently.

Blocked airflow, dirty coils or seized safety valves can reduce efficiency, increase electricity consumption and place unnecessary strain on the compressor.

Operating the PTR and ECV valves every six months also helps prevent mineral build-up and confirms they continue to function correctly.

Important: Always follow your manufacturer's instructions when operating safety valves, as hot water will discharge during testing. If you're unsure, contact a licensed plumber.

Recommended 5-Year Major Service

Current Price: $449

Like any major appliance, heat pump hot water systems benefit from scheduled component replacement and servicing.

Our comprehensive 5-Year Service includes:

  • Replacement of the sacrificial anode (where fitted).
  • Replacement of the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Replacement of the Expansion Control Valve (ECV).
  • Full inspection of the storage tank and heat pump unit.
  • Electrical safety testing.
  • Inspection of wiring and controls.
  • Cleaning of the evaporator coil (where required).
  • Inspection of fan and compressor operation.
  • Inspection of condensate drainage.
  • Leak and corrosion inspection.
  • Operational performance testing.

Why These Components Matter

Sacrificial Anode

Most vitreous enamel-lined heat pump storage tanks contain a sacrificial anode.

The anode corrodes instead of the steel tank, protecting it from internal rust.

Replacing the anode at the recommended interval can significantly extend the life of your storage tank.

Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve

The PTR valve protects the storage tank from excessive pressure and temperature.

Over time, mineral deposits may prevent the valve from operating correctly, making regular testing and replacement essential.

Expansion Control Valve (ECV)

Where fitted, the ECV controls pressure created as water expands during heating.

Maintaining the ECV helps protect both the storage tank and your home's plumbing system.

Airflow & Evaporator Coil

Unlike conventional electric systems, heat pumps rely on airflow across the evaporator coil to extract heat from the surrounding air.

Restricted airflow caused by leaves, dust or debris can:

  • Reduce efficiency.
  • Increase running costs.
  • Extend heating times.
  • Place additional strain on the compressor.

Keeping the unit clean helps maintain peak performance.

If Your Heat Pump Isn't Working

Before arranging a service, check the following:

  • Ensure power is switched on.
  • Check the circuit breaker and safety switch (RCD).
  • Confirm the isolator near the unit is turned on.
  • Check the controller for any fault or error codes.
  • Ensure the air inlet and outlet are unobstructed.
  • Remove any leaves or debris around the unit.
  • Check for visible water leaks.
  • Confirm the condensate drain is not blocked.
  • Listen for unusual noises from the fan or compressor.
  • Allow sufficient recovery time after heavy hot water usage.

If your system is still not producing hot water or is displaying fault codes, contact JR Gas & Water for professional diagnosis and repair.

General Signs Your System May Need Attention

Arrange a service if you notice:

  • Little or no hot water.
  • Unusual fan or compressor noises.
  • Error codes on the controller.
  • Constant water leaking.
  • Reduced heating performance.
  • Higher than normal electricity usage.
  • Water taking much longer to heat.
  • Visible corrosion.
  • Repeated electrical trips.
  • Restricted airflow due to dirt or debris.

Early servicing can often prevent more expensive repairs and prolong the life of your system.

Protect Your Warranty & Maximise System Life

Routine maintenance helps keep your heat pump operating safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule can also assist in maintaining warranty coverage.

Failure to maintain your system may result in:

  • Reduced energy efficiency.
  • Increased electricity costs.
  • Premature tank corrosion.
  • Compressor strain.
  • Shortened system lifespan.
  • Unexpected breakdowns.
  • Possible reduction or loss of manufacturer warranty, depending on the manufacturer's maintenance requirements.

Regular preventative maintenance is one of the best ways to protect your investment and ensure your heat pump continues delivering efficient hot water for many years.

Please note: Maintenance requirements vary between manufacturers and models. Always refer to your owner's manual for the maintenance schedule applicable to your heat pump hot water system. JR Gas & Water services all major heat pump brands in accordance with manufacturer recommendations where applicable.

Estimated annual savings are calculated by comparing the heat pump’s energy efficiency (measured as COP – Coefficient of Performance) against a standard electric hot water system with a COP of 1.0. For example, if a heat pump has a COP of 4.0, it uses 75% less electricity to deliver the same amount of hot water.

Savings are based on average household usage for a family of five on Tariff 11 (general usage tariff), using manufacturer-stated COP values. The higher the COP, the greater the energy savings.

Bonus savings: When paired with a solar PV system, energy costs can drop even further — with some households seeing up to 50% additional savings, especially when the heat pump runs during solar generation times.

Disclaimer:

All estimated savings are based on manufacturer-provided COP values and standard usage assumptions (e.g. a family of five on Tariff 11). These figures are intended as a general guide to help compare different hot water units and technologies. Actual savings may vary depending on your household’s usage, energy rates, and installation conditions. We recommend conducting your own research or consulting an energy advisor to assess what’s best for your specific setup.
