    What is an STC?

STC stands for Small-scale Technology Certificate. It is part of an Australian Government scheme designed to encourage energy-efficient hot water systems and other eligible renewable technologies.

    How does it work?

When your new system qualifies, STCs are created based on the expected energy savings and location of the installation. These certificates have a value, and that value is applied as an upfront discount to help reduce the installed cost.

How is it shown on our jobs?

For eligible systems, the STC value is already included as a flat rate $1000 upfront discount in the total installed price shown, so you do not need to claim it separately after installation.

    Who is eligible?

Eligibility generally applies to installations of approved systems at Australian homes and businesses where the product, property type, and installation details meet current STC program requirements.

If you are unsure whether your property or system qualifies, contact us before ordering and we can help confirm it.

ENVIROSUN SOLAR HOT WATER INSTALLATION

Envirosun TS300/40 Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Envirosun TS300/40 solar hot water system across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas. It is a roof-mounted thermosiphon solar hot water system that combines a stainless steel storage tank with two flat-plate solar collectors.

The current Envirosun TS300/40Se provides 304 litres of nominal storage and uses two E20HS solar collectors. It is the two-collector version of Envirosun's 304L TS300 platform, providing the same storage capacity as the TS300/60 but with a smaller roof footprint and one fewer collector.

The TS range uses an open-circuit thermosiphon design. The tank sits above the collectors and heated water circulates naturally through the roof-mounted system without an active solar circulation pump. This makes roof area, structure, access, solar exposure, plumbing and the selected booster arrangement central to the installation.

Envirosun TS300/40 at a glance: The current TS300/40 is a 304L roof-mounted thermosiphon solar hot water system. The electric-boosted TS300/40Se uses two E20HS flat-plate collectors and a 2.4kW electric booster with 140L boost capacity. No pump is required for normal solar circulation. JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the TS300/40 across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast areas, subject to roof, access, plumbing and installation suitability.

Envirosun TS300/40 Supply & Installation at a Glance

Product Type

Open-circuit roof-mounted thermosiphon solar hot water system.

Storage Capacity

304L nominal storage in Envirosun's current TS300 specification.

Collector Configuration

Two flat-plate solar collectors in the TS300/40 configuration.

Installation Area

Professional supply and installation across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas.

Who Is the Envirosun TS300/40 Best For?

Medium-to-Large Households

The TS300 platform provides 304L nominal storage and is positioned by Envirosun for medium-to-large household applications. Final sizing should still be based on actual hot water use.

Roof-Mounted Solar Buyers

The tank and collectors are installed together on the roof, making the TS300/40 suitable where a traditional thermosiphon layout is preferred over a split system with a ground-level tank.

Two-Collector Applications

The TS300/40 uses the same 304L storage platform as the TS300/60 but requires less collector area, making it worth considering where two collectors are better matched to the roof and application.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Envirosun TS300/40 Right for My Home?

A Good Choice If...

You want roof-mounted thermosiphon solar hot water, have suitable roof space for the tank and two collectors, and prefer a system that uses natural solar circulation rather than an active circulation pump.

Consider Another Option If...

Your roof has limited structural suitability, poor solar exposure, difficult access or insufficient mounting space. A split solar system or heat pump may make more practical sense where keeping the tank on the ground is preferred.

JR Should Check First If...

You are changing from a ground-mounted hot water system, relocating the installation, changing booster type, have unusual roof construction or are unsure whether the existing plumbing and mounting area can be reused.

How Many People Does the Envirosun TS300/40 Suit?

Envirosun describes its TS300 platform as suitable for medium-to-large households and publishes its broader TS range for approximately two to six people depending on model and demand. That should be treated as a range guide rather than a guaranteed occupant rating for every TS300/40 installation.

The TS300/40 provides 304L nominal storage, but actual suitability depends on shower length, shower flow rates, number of bathrooms, bath use, simultaneous demand, dishwasher and laundry habits, available solar energy and how often the booster needs to operate.

JR should therefore match the TS300/40 to the household's real usage pattern rather than relying on tank capacity or occupant count alone.

How Does the Envirosun TS300/40 Work?

The TS300/40 works through natural thermosiphon circulation. The storage tank is mounted above the collectors on the roof. When sunlight heats water in the collectors, the warmer water becomes less dense and rises naturally into the storage tank while cooler water moves downward toward the collectors.

This natural circulation means the system does not require a pump for normal solar operation. The storage tank and collectors form one roof-mounted solar hot water installation.

The operating process is simple: sunlight heats the collectors → heated water rises naturally into the storage tank → cooler water returns to the collectors → hot water is stored for household use → the selected booster provides supplementary heating when solar input is insufficient.

The TS is an open-circuit thermosiphon system, which distinguishes it from Envirosun's closed-circuit THX configuration.

Key Features of the Envirosun TS300/40

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Envirosun TS300/40?

The TS300/40 installs both the 304L storage tank and solar collectors on the roof. Roof suitability is therefore a fundamental installation requirement rather than simply an aesthetic consideration.

Sufficient usable roof area for the complete system
Appropriate roof structure and mounting conditions
Suitable roof pitch and solar exposure
Safe installer access
Safe lifting and positioning of roof-mounted equipment
Suitable hot and cold water pipework
Required pressure and safety valves
Compliant relief and drainage arrangements
Suitable electric or gas booster services
Tempering where required
Practical access for future servicing
Licensed installation and commissioning

Roof height, construction, pitch, access, system relocation, existing services and booster changes can affect the installation package and final cost.

What's Included With Envirosun TS300/40 Installation?

Standard Installation

The selected JR installation package covers the applicable labour and materials described in the live product selector. Depending on the package, this may include removal of the existing hot water system, roof positioning, plumbing alterations, applicable valves and connection of the selected booster arrangement.

Compliance & Commissioning

The system is connected, checked and commissioned for correct operation, including hot and cold water connections, safety components, thermosiphon operation and the electric or gas booster where applicable.

Possible Additional Work

Difficult roof access, specialised lifting, structural work, relocation, extended pipe runs, gas alterations, electrical upgrades or non-standard mounting arrangements can require additional work or a separate quote.

How Much Does Envirosun TS300/40 Installation Cost?

Current Envirosun TS300/40 supplied-and-installed pricing is shown in the live product and installation selector above. Keeping the current price in the commercial product area means customers see the latest product price and relevant installation-package options rather than an outdated hard-coded figure.

Final TS300/40 installation cost depends on roof height, access, lifting requirements, replacement type, existing plumbing, valves, electric or gas booster services, relocation and any mounting or structural work required at the property.

A straightforward replacement of a compatible roof-mounted thermosiphon system can require less alteration than changing from a heat pump, ground-mounted electric storage or active split solar installation.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Envirosun TS300/40 Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Envirosun TS300/40 across eligible Brisbane service areas. For an existing roof-mounted solar replacement, JR can assess whether the existing mounting area, plumbing and booster services can be reused or need alteration for the new system.

The two-collector TS300/40 requires less roof area than the three-collector TS300/60, which can make it the more practical 304L Envirosun thermosiphon option where roof width or usable collector area is limited.

For Brisbane properties converting from ground-mounted electric storage, heat pump or active split solar, the installation requires additional planning because both the 304L tank and collectors move onto the roof. JR also services eligible surrounding areas including Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Envirosun TS300/40 Installation Gold Coast

Gold Coast TS300/40 installations require a suitable roof position that provides practical solar exposure while remaining accessible for installation and future service work. The combined roof-mounted tank and collector layout needs to suit the property rather than simply replacing another system on tank capacity alone.

Where an existing thermosiphon solar system is being replaced, suitable pipework and service positions may sometimes be retained. Renovations, relocations and conversions from another hot water technology can require more significant plumbing and booster changes.

The two-collector layout can also be worth considering where a TS300/60's third collector would add unnecessary roof footprint for the application.

Can the Envirosun TS300/40 Replace My Existing System?

Replacing Roof-Mounted Solar

This is generally the closest replacement pathway, but roof condition, mounting area, plumbing, access, valves and booster compatibility still need to be confirmed.

Replacing a Smaller Thermosiphon System

Moving to the 304L TS300/40 can increase storage and roof-mounted system size, so the existing mounting area and supporting installation conditions need to suit the larger system.

Replacing Split Solar or Heat Pump

Split solar and heat pump systems normally keep storage at ground level. Changing to a TS300/40 moves storage onto the roof and can require substantial plumbing and mounting alterations.

Replacing Another Brand

The previous brand is less important than the roof area, system dimensions, mounting conditions, plumbing, booster services and safe access. Similar tank capacities do not automatically make two systems like-for-like replacements.

Which Envirosun TS300/40 Variant Do I Need?

Envirosun currently publishes electric and gas-boosted TS300/40 configurations. Both are roof-mounted thermosiphon solar systems using 304L storage, but their backup heating and service requirements differ.

Feature TS300/40Se TS300/40Sg
Storage Capacity 304L 304L
Solar Operation Thermosiphon Thermosiphon
Boost Type Electric Gas
Electric Booster 2.4kW Not applicable
Electric Boost Capacity 140L Not applicable
Gas Boost Rate Not applicable Up to 26L/min
Gas Consumption Not applicable 188MJ/hr
Gas Heat Output Not applicable 42kW
Best Suited To Properties suited to electric backup heating Properties with appropriate gas services

Existing services matter when selecting the variant. Changing between electric and gas boosting can require additional trade work and should not automatically be treated as a standard like-for-like replacement.

How Efficient Is the Envirosun TS300/40?

The TS300/40 is designed to use solar energy as its primary water-heating source whenever useful solar input is available. The booster provides supplementary heating when solar contribution alone does not meet household demand.

Actual purchased-energy use depends on roof orientation, shading, weather, season, household consumption, inlet water temperature and booster operation. A fixed running-cost or percentage-saving figure cannot accurately represent every installation.

The system may also create STCs where current scheme requirements are met. Certificate quantities and values depend on installation date and geographic location, so the current applicable benefit should be reflected through live product pricing rather than hard-coded into this page.

TS300/40 vs TS300/60 Solar Hot Water

Feature TS300/40Se TS300/60Se
Nominal Storage 304L 304L
Collector Quantity 2 3
Collector Model E20HS E20HS

Electric Booster 2.4kW 2.4kW
Main Difference Two-collector configuration Three-collector configuration

The TS300/60 does not provide a larger tank than the TS300/40. Both use 304L nominal storage. The main difference is collector quantity and roof footprint, so the choice should be based on available roof area and the value of the additional collector rather than assumed extra storage capacity.

TS300/40 vs THX300/40 Solar Hot Water

Feature TS300/40 THX300/40
Storage Class 304L 304L
Installation Type Roof-mounted thermosiphon Roof-mounted thermosiphon
Solar Circuit Open circuit Indirect closed circuit

Solar hot water systems are an efficient and environmentally friendly way to heat your water, using energy from the sun to reduce electricity or gas consumption. To continue operating efficiently and reliably, they require regular maintenance and servicing.

Like any hot water system, manufacturers recommend routine maintenance to maximise system performance, protect key components and support your manufacturer's warranty.

Homeowner Maintenance – Every 6 Months

Every six months we recommend carrying out a simple visual inspection of your solar hot water system.

Homeowners should:

  • Carefully operate the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Operate the Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (where fitted).
  • Check for water leaks around the storage tank and pipework.
  • Inspect visible solar pipe insulation for deterioration.
  • Ensure solar collectors are free from excessive dirt, leaves and debris where safely accessible.
  • Check for signs of corrosion or rust.
  • Listen for unusual noises from the system or circulating pump (where fitted).

Why is this important?

Regular operation of the PTR and ECV valves helps prevent mineral build-up that can cause the valves to seize or leak.

Keeping collectors and surrounding components clean allows the solar system to operate as efficiently as possible, while early detection of leaks or damaged insulation can prevent larger problems from developing.

Important: Always follow your manufacturer's instructions when operating safety valves, as hot water will discharge during testing. Do not climb onto your roof to inspect or clean collectors. If you're unsure, contact a licensed plumber.

Recommended 5-Year Major Service

Current Price: $449

Most solar storage hot water systems benefit from scheduled replacement of key components to maintain reliable performance and extend the life of the storage tank.

Our comprehensive 5-Year Service includes:

  • Replacement of the sacrificial anode (where fitted).
  • Replacement of the Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve.
  • Replacement of the Expansion Control Valve (ECV).
  • Inspection of the solar collectors.
  • Inspection of solar pipework and insulation.
  • Inspection of circulating pump and controller (where fitted).
  • Inspection of booster operation.
  • Full operational testing.
  • Leak and corrosion inspection.

Why These Components Matter

Sacrificial Anode

Most vitreous enamel-lined solar storage tanks contain a sacrificial anode.

The anode gradually corrodes instead of the steel storage tank, protecting it from internal rust. Once the anode has been consumed, the tank itself begins to corrode, which can eventually lead to leaks and tank failure.

Replacing the anode at the recommended interval is one of the best ways to extend the life of your hot water system.

Pressure & Temperature Relief (PTR) Valve

The PTR valve protects the storage tank by safely relieving excessive pressure and temperature.

Mineral deposits and normal wear can prevent the valve from operating correctly over time, making routine testing and replacement essential.

Expansion Control Valve (ECV)

Where fitted, the ECV controls pressure created as water expands during heating.

Maintaining the ECV helps reduce stress on the storage tank and plumbing system, contributing to a longer service life.

Solar Collectors & Pipework

Solar collectors capture the sun's energy to heat water, while insulated pipework transfers that heat to the storage tank.

Keeping collectors unobstructed and ensuring pipe insulation remains in good condition helps:

  • Maximise solar efficiency.
  • Reduce reliance on electric or gas boosting.
  • Lower energy costs.
  • Improve overall system performance.

If Your Hot Water System Isn't Working

Before arranging a service, check the following:

  • Ensure power is switched on (for electric boosted systems).
  • Confirm the gas supply is on (for gas boosted systems).
  • Check circuit breakers and safety switches where applicable.
  • Verify the booster has not been turned off.
  • Inspect for visible water leaks.
  • Ensure exposed solar pipe insulation has not been damaged.
  • Check for controller fault codes (where fitted).
  • Listen for unusual noises from the circulating pump (where fitted).
  • Remember that several cloudy days may reduce solar heating, causing the booster to operate more frequently.

If your system is still not producing adequate hot water, contact JR Gas & Water for professional diagnosis and repair.

General Signs Your System May Need Attention

Arrange a service if you notice:

  • Reduced hot water availability.
  • Booster operating more frequently than usual.
  • Water leaking from the tank or pipework.
  • Constant dripping from relief valves.
  • Visible corrosion.
  • Damaged or deteriorated pipe insulation.
  • Pump noise or failure (where fitted).
  • Controller fault codes.
  • Rust-coloured or dirty water.
  • Unusual noises during operation.

Early servicing can often prevent more expensive repairs and extend the life of your solar hot water system.

Protect Your Warranty & Maximise System Life

Routine maintenance helps ensure your solar hot water system continues operating safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule may also assist in maintaining warranty coverage.

Failure to maintain your system may result in:

  • Premature tank corrosion.
  • Reduced solar efficiency.
  • Higher electricity or gas consumption.
  • Leaking or seized safety valves.
  • Unexpected loss of hot water.
  • Shortened system lifespan.
  • Possible reduction or loss of manufacturer warranty, depending on the manufacturer's maintenance requirements.

Preventative maintenance is one of the best ways to protect your investment, reduce operating costs and maximise the life of your solar hot water system.

Please note: Maintenance requirements vary between manufacturers and models. Always refer to your owner's manual for the maintenance schedule applicable to your solar hot water system.
