DAVEY PRESSURE PUMP INSTALLATION

Davey TotalFlo TF50J Pressure Pump Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Davey TotalFlo TF50J pressure pump across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The current TF50J-18 is Davey's mid-size jet pressure pump in the TotalFlo domestic pressure-system range. It is designed for clean-water pressure boosting from suitable tanks or mains-water supplies where a property needs more capacity than the smaller TF40J without stepping up to the higher-flow TF117MS multistage system.

The system combines a fixed-speed jet pump with Davey's TotalFlo automatic pressure controller. It supports both suction-lift and flooded-suction installations and includes loss-of-prime protection to help protect the pump when usable inlet water is lost.

Davey TotalFlo TF50J at a glance: current TF50J-18 model, 50 L/min maximum flow, 41m maximum head, approximately 402kPa static pressure equivalent, 600W motor output, 180kPa controller cut-in, 304 stainless-steel wet end, 1" BSP inlet and outlet, 220–240V single-phase power, 1.8m lead with C38 3-pin plug and current 24-month Davey warranty.

Davey TotalFlo TF50J Supply & Installation at a Glance

Maximum Flow

Up to approximately 50 L/min under low-head operating conditions.

Maximum Head

Up to approximately 41 metres of water head.

Automatic Control

The TotalFlo controller starts the pump when system pressure falls to approximately 180kPa / 1.8 bar.

Moderate Domestic Duty

JR currently positions the TF50J at up to approximately 3 simultaneous taps.

What Is the Davey TotalFlo TF50J?

The Davey TotalFlo TF50J is a fixed-speed automatic jet pressure system designed for clean domestic water.

The pump creates the required water pressure while the TotalFlo controller automates starting and stopping. When a tap or fixture opens and system pressure drops to the controller's cut-in point, the pump starts automatically.

When demand ends, the controller shuts the pump down without requiring normal manual switching.

This makes the TF50J more suitable for household pressure duty than a basic transfer pump intended only to move water from one point to another.

Why Choose the Davey TotalFlo TF50J?

50 L/min Maximum Flow

The TF50J provides more capacity than the smaller TF40J while remaining a compact domestic jet-pump system.

41m Maximum Head

The pump develops up to approximately 41 metres of water head at the low-flow end of its hydraulic curve.

Automatic Operation

The TotalFlo controller manages normal start and stop operation according to water demand.

Loss-of-Prime Protection

The controller includes protection intended to help prevent prolonged operation where usable inlet water has been lost.

304 Stainless-Steel Wet End

Davey specifies corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel for the TotalFlo wet-end casing.

Plug-and-Lead Connection

The current pressure-system package is supplied pre-wired with an approximately 1.8m lead and C38 3-pin plug.

What Can the Davey TF50J Be Used For?

Davey positions the TotalFlo pressure range for domestic household water supply, tank-water pressure boosting, low or inconsistent mains pressure, gardens and light irrigation.

Rainwater Tank Supply

The TF50J can draw from a suitable clean rainwater or storage tank where the suction system is correctly designed and primed.

Household Pressure Supply

It can provide automatic pressure for smaller to medium domestic applications where flow and pressure requirements fit the pump curve.

Garden & Light Irrigation

The system can support suitable garden watering and light irrigation where required pressure and flow remain within its hydraulic capability.

Davey also identifies the TotalFlo range for selected mains-pressure boosting applications. Any direct mains boosting still needs to comply with applicable plumbing and water-provider requirements.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Davey TF50J Right for My Property?

A Good Choice If...

You need a moderate-capacity fixed-speed domestic pressure pump for tank water, garden supply or suitable household pressure boosting.

Consider the TF40J If...

Your property has lighter water demand and does not need the additional flow or head of the TF50J.

Consider the TF117MS If...

Your property has larger simultaneous demand and would benefit from the much higher 117 L/min maximum-flow multistage platform.

How Many Taps Can the Davey TF50J Supply?

JR's current live product positions the TF50J at up to approximately three simultaneous taps.

This should be treated as a household sizing guide rather than a guarantee that three high-flow outlets can all operate at maximum demand and maximum pressure at the same time.

Actual performance depends on shower and tap flow rates, pipe diameter, elevation, suction conditions and pressure losses throughout the system.

A pump should therefore be selected against the property's required flow and pressure at the same operating point rather than tap count alone.

Davey TF50J Hydraulic Performance

The TF50J has a published maximum flow of approximately 50 L/min and a maximum head of approximately 41 metres.

Those two maximum values occur at different ends of the pump curve.

Maximum head occurs at very low or zero flow. As flow demand increases, available pressure decreases.

Forty-one metres of water head is approximately 402kPa. JR rounds the live product specification to approximately 410kPa.

The pump should therefore not be represented as delivering 50 L/min while simultaneously maintaining 410kPa.

Jet Pump Design

The TF50J uses a jet-pump hydraulic design.

Jet pumps are widely used for domestic tank-water and suction-lift applications because they can draw water from below pump level where the inlet plumbing and priming conditions are appropriate.

The TF50J provides more hydraulic capacity than the TF40J but remains below the much higher-flow TF117MS multistage system.

This makes it a practical middle option where a property needs more than entry-level performance without requiring a larger pressure system.

Automatic TotalFlo Controller

The TF50J-18 pressure-system package uses Davey's TotalFlo automatic controller.

The controller has a published cut-in pressure of approximately 180kPa / 1.8 bar.

When water is used and pressure drops to the cut-in point, the pump starts automatically.

When water demand ends, the controller shuts the pump down.

Davey's current replacement controller for TF40J, TF50J and TF117MS pressure systems is identified as TF-CONT180B.

Loss-of-Prime Protection

A surface pressure pump relies on a usable water supply at its inlet.

If a rainwater tank becomes empty or the suction line loses prime, a conventional pump can otherwise continue attempting to operate without adequate water.

The TotalFlo controller incorporates loss-of-prime protection to help protect the pump in this situation.

This feature does not replace correct suction plumbing, adequate source-water level or proper priming, but it provides useful protection for normal residential use.

Davey's technical data publishes 50 L/min maximum flow and 41m maximum head. These are separate hydraulic endpoints and should not be represented as simultaneous performance.

How Loud Is the Davey TF50J?

Davey's TotalFlo engineering data publishes approximately 72.8dB for the TF50J.

That means generic wording such as “low-noise operation” should be treated carefully.

The TF50J is a conventional exposed surface pump rather than an acoustically enclosed premium variable-speed system.

Actual sound experienced at the property depends on pump location, mounting surface, surrounding walls and pipe vibration.

Where noise is a major selection priority, an enclosed variable-speed system such as the DAB E.sybox range may be worth comparing.

Suction Lift or Flooded Suction

Flooded Suction

The water source supplies the pump inlet under positive head, such as where the tank outlet remains above the pump inlet.

Suction Lift

The pump must draw water upward from a lower source, making pipe diameter, vertical lift, fittings and airtight plumbing especially important.

Davey approves the TotalFlo pressure range for both installation types.

In suction-lift installations, excessive distance, air leaks or restrictive inlet plumbing can reduce flow and cause repeated priming problems.

Tank Water vs Mains Pressure Boosting

Tank-Water Supply

The TF50J can provide automatic pressure from a suitable rainwater or storage tank where the suction system is correctly designed.

Mains Pressure Boosting

Davey positions the range for low or inconsistent mains pressure, but direct mains boosting must comply with applicable local plumbing and water-provider requirements.

The pump can increase pressure, but it cannot create additional source-water volume if the incoming supply itself cannot provide enough flow.

TF40J vs TF50J vs TF117MS

Specification TF40J-18 TF50J-18 TF117MS-18
Pump Type Jet Jet Multistage
Motor Output 370W 600W 750W

Published Noise 69.4dB 72.8dB 67.8dB
Controller Cut-In 180kPa 180kPa 180kPa
Typical Positioning Light domestic duty Moderate domestic duty Higher-flow domestic pressure duty

The TF50J therefore sits naturally between the smaller TF40J and the much higher-flow TF117MS. It is best selected where the property's actual demand justifies that middle position.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Davey TF50J?

Suitable clean-water source
Correct suction-pipe sizing
Airtight inlet plumbing for suction-lift installations
Suitable delivery pipework
1" suction and discharge connection planning
Appropriate isolation valves
Non-return or backflow protection where required
Suitable 220–240V electrical supply
Stable pump mounting position
Weather protection appropriate to the installation
Correct priming before commissioning
Compliance assessment for direct mains boosting

Pipe Sizing Matters

The TF50J uses 1-inch suction and discharge connections, but the surrounding plumbing still needs to support the required flow.

Restrictive suction plumbing can reduce available flow, increase friction losses and make priming more difficult.

Long delivery runs, small pipe diameter, restrictive valves and elevation can also consume a significant amount of available pump head.

A larger pump does not automatically solve a system with fundamentally undersized pipework.

JR therefore assesses the water source and complete hydraulic layout when selecting and installing a pressure pump.

What's Included With Davey TF50J Installation?

Standard Replacement

Where the property qualifies for the selected JR package, installation can include supply of the TF50J, removal of the old pump where included and connection to suitable existing services.

Priming & Commissioning

The pump is correctly primed, controller operation is tested and the completed pressure system is checked under normal water demand.

Possible Additional Work

Suction-pipe alterations, delivery pipework changes, new valves, backflow protection, electrical adjustments, mounting improvements or changes to the water source can increase installation scope.

How Much Does Davey TotalFlo TF50J Installation Cost?

Current supplied-and-installed pricing is shown through JR's live product and installation selector above.

The final Davey TF50J installation cost depends on whether the job is a straightforward like-for-like replacement or requires changes to suction plumbing, delivery pipework, valves, electrical supply, mounting or backflow protection.

A simple surface-pump replacement using suitable existing services is generally easier than a new suction-lift system drawing from a remote rainwater tank.

Any direct mains-pressure boosting arrangement may also require additional plumbing assessment and compliance work.

BRISBANE INSTALLATION

Davey TotalFlo TF50J Installation Brisbane

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Davey TotalFlo TF50J in Brisbane for suitable tank-water, garden and domestic pressure-boosting applications.

The TF50J can be a practical option where a property needs more capacity than the smaller TF40J but does not justify a 117 L/min multistage pressure system.

JR checks the water source, suction conditions, pipe sizing, elevation, available source flow and expected simultaneous demand before confirming the installation.

Eligible service coverage extends across Greater Brisbane and surrounding areas including Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay.

GOLD COAST INSTALLATION

Davey TotalFlo TF50J Installation Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water also supplies and installs the Davey TotalFlo TF50J on the Gold Coast across eligible service areas.

Its 600W jet-pump platform can suit moderate domestic demand where a conventional fixed-speed pressure system remains appropriate.

JR assesses the water source, suction layout, pipework, available electrical supply and required pressure before commissioning the pump.

This helps ensure the TF50J is matched to the property rather than chosen solely because it sits in the middle of the range.

Can the Davey TF50J Replace My Existing Pump?

Replacing Another TF50J

Usually the simplest pathway where existing pipework, power and mounting remain suitable.

Replacing a TF40J

The TF50J provides additional motor power, head and maximum flow, but the water source and surrounding pipework should support the upgrade.

Replacing Another Jet Pump

Often possible where suction and delivery connections can be adapted without creating excessive hydraulic restriction.

New Rainwater Tank Supply

Requires correctly sized airtight suction plumbing, suitable electrical power, isolation and correct priming.

Mains Pressure Boosting

Requires assessment of source flow, existing mains pressure and applicable plumbing requirements.

Changing to Variable Speed

Customers wanting quieter operation and more constant pressure can compare inverter-driven systems such as the DAB E.sybox range.
