PURETEC WHOLE-HOUSE RAINWATER + UV FILTRATION

Puretec HYBRID-G13 Installation Brisbane & Gold Coast

JR Gas & Water supplies and installs the Puretec HYBRID-G13 whole-house rainwater filtration and UV system across eligible Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding South East Queensland service areas.

The current Puretec HYBRID-G13-LF combines three stages of 20-inch filtration with ultraviolet treatment in a purpose-built weather-protected enclosure. It is designed primarily for homes using rainwater and can also accommodate mains water applications where appropriate.

Water passes through a 5-micron pleated sediment cartridge, a 5-micron carbon block cartridge and a finer 1-micron polyspun cartridge before reaching the UV reactor. This provides progressive filtration before ultraviolet treatment is applied to the clarified water.

Puretec HYBRID-G13 at a glance: HYBRID-G13-LF, triple 20-inch filtration, PL05MP2 5-micron sediment cartridge, CB05MP2 5-micron carbon block cartridge, PX01MP2 1-micron sediment cartridge, RL6 46W UV lamp, RQS6 quartz sleeve, 1" BSP / 25mm connections, 70 L/min UV flow at the manufacturer-identified 30mJ/cm² drinking-water dose, outdoor weather enclosure, lockable lid and 3-year Puretec warranty.

Puretec HYBRID-G13 Supply & Installation at a Glance

Triple Filtration

Three 20-inch filtration stages progressively treat sediment and provide carbon treatment before the water reaches the UV chamber.

Ultraviolet Treatment

The RL6 ultraviolet system provides a chemical-free treatment stage targeting microorganisms including E. coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts.

70 L/min @ 30mJ/cm²

Puretec identifies 30mJ/cm² as the industry-standard UV dose for drinking water, with the G13 rated at 70 L/min at that dose.

Outdoor Enclosure

A weather-protection cover, corrosion-resistant construction and lockable lid make the G13 suitable for appropriately installed outdoor applications.

What Is the Puretec HYBRID-G13?

The Puretec HYBRID-G13 is an integrated whole-house rainwater treatment system combining triple-stage filtration and ultraviolet treatment.

Unlike a basic sediment filter, the G13 treats water through multiple filtration stages before exposing it to ultraviolet light.

This allows the system to address sediment, unpleasant taste and odour, chlorine and other carbon-treatable contaminants while also providing an ultraviolet treatment stage for microbiological protection.

The system is installed on the incoming water supply so treated water can be distributed to connected taps, showers, laundries and other household outlets.

How Does the Puretec HYBRID-G13 Treat Rainwater?

Stage 1 – PL05MP2

The first stage uses a PL05MP2 5-micron pleated sediment cartridge to reduce dirt, rust, algae and suspended sediment.

Stage 2 – CB05MP2

The second stage uses a CB05MP2 5-micron carbon block cartridge to provide carbon treatment for contaminants including chlorine, unpleasant taste and odour.

Stage 3 – PX01MP2

The third stage uses a PX01MP2 1-micron polyspun sediment cartridge to provide finer particulate filtration before the UV treatment stage.

Final treatment – ultraviolet: After passing through the three filtration stages, water enters the UV chamber where the RL6 lamp provides ultraviolet treatment. The effectiveness of UV treatment depends on water clarity, correct flow, lamp condition, quartz-sleeve condition and proper system maintenance.

Why Choose the Puretec HYBRID-G13?

Filtration + UV in One System

The G13 combines mechanical filtration, carbon treatment, fine filtration and UV treatment in one integrated package.

Designed for Rainwater

Puretec specifically designs its Hybrid UV systems around common residential rainwater treatment applications.

Large 20-Inch Cartridges

The G13 uses three 20-inch cartridges, providing greater filtration capacity than the smaller 10-inch HYBRID-G12 format.

Outdoor Protection

The weather cover protects the filtration and UV components while providing a cleaner finished installation.

Lockable Lid

An anti-tamper and child-resistant lockable lid helps restrict access to the system's filtration and UV components.

UV Monitoring

The UV controller includes a lamp countdown timer plus audible and visible failure alarms to assist with ongoing system maintenance.

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

Is the Puretec HYBRID-G13 Right for Your Home?

A Strong Fit If...

Your home relies on rainwater and you want whole-house filtration combined with UV treatment rather than sediment filtration alone.

Especially Relevant If...

You want carbon treatment for taste, odour and chlorine alongside finer sediment filtration and microbiological treatment.

Assessment May Be Needed If...

Your tank water is highly turbid, heavily stained or otherwise has poor UV transmission. UV performance depends on sufficient water clarity.

Rainwater and Mains Water Applications

Puretec designs the HYBRID-G13 primarily for rainwater supply and also states that the system is suitable for mains and rainwater applications.

This can make the G13 relevant to properties where rainwater is the principal household supply as well as configurations where town water forms part of the overall plumbing arrangement.

The actual installation needs to account for how rainwater and mains supplies are controlled, whether a rainwater pump is already installed and how the home's water-source changeover arrangement operates.

Understanding the HYBRID-G13 Flow Ratings

The HYBRID-G13 has several published flow figures, and they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Puretec describes the G13 filtration platform as suitable for approximately 120 L/min, while the ultraviolet reactor has separate maximum flow rates based on the UV dose delivered.

UV Dose Maximum Published Flow Meaning
40mJ/cm² 54 L/min Higher UV dose with lower allowable flow
30mJ/cm² 70 L/min Puretec identifies this as the industry-standard dose for drinking water
16mJ/cm² 130 L/min Lower UV dose at higher flow

For drinking-water applications, the relevant Puretec-published benchmark is therefore 70 L/min at 30mJ/cm², not simply the 120 L/min filtration rating.

Why UV Dose Matters

Ultraviolet treatment works by exposing microorganisms to UV light as water passes through the reactor.

The UV dose depends partly on how quickly water travels through the chamber. Higher flow provides less exposure time, which is why Puretec publishes different maximum flow rates for different UV doses.

This is particularly important when sizing the G13 for a larger home. The filtration housings may be capable of greater flow than the flow used for a particular UV-dose target.

UV Treatment for E. coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium

Puretec specifically states that Hybrid UV technology is highly effective against microorganisms including E. coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts when the system is correctly selected, installed, operated and maintained.

UV treatment works without adding disinfecting chemicals to the water.

Unlike sediment or carbon filtration, UV treatment does not physically filter microorganisms out of the water. Instead, UV light provides the microbiological treatment as water passes through the reactor.

For this reason, correct filtration before the UV chamber is an important part of the HYBRID-G13 design.

Why Water Clarity Matters for UV

Puretec specifically warns that UV effectiveness depends on the clarity of the water.

Particles, turbidity and certain dissolved or suspended materials can reduce UV transmission and interfere with effective treatment.

The G13's three filtration stages are designed to prepare common rainwater for UV treatment, but unusually poor or heavily stained water may require additional assessment.

Puretec advises that a UVT test can be used where there is uncertainty about whether the incoming water has adequate ultraviolet transmission or requires additional treatment before the UV stage.

What Does the Puretec HYBRID-G13 Treat?

Sediment
Dirt and suspended particles
Rust and particulate material
Chlorine through carbon treatment
Unpleasant taste
Unpleasant odour
Selected carbon-treatable chemicals
E. coli through UV treatment
Giardia through UV treatment
Cryptosporidium cysts through UV treatment

The HYBRID-G13 should not be confused with reverse osmosis or water softening. It does not use an RO membrane and is not designed to remove dissolved salts or hardness in the way those treatment technologies do.

Outdoor Weather-Protected Design

One of the major differences between the HYBRID-G13 and an exposed filter-and-UV arrangement is its integrated outdoor enclosure.

Puretec specifically provides the Hybrid G Series with a weather-protection cover for outdoor installation.

The system also uses anti-corrosion construction, a high-strength aluminium mounting bracket and an anti-tamper, child-resistant lockable lid.

The hinged lid provides access to the UV lamp for routine maintenance without dismantling the complete enclosure.

UV Lamp Countdown Timer and Failure Alarm

The HYBRID-G13 is equipped with a lamp countdown timer and audible and visible failure alarm.

These monitoring functions are important because a UV lamp can still appear illuminated even when its useful UV output has declined below the required treatment level.

The UV lamp therefore needs to be replaced according to Puretec's servicing requirements rather than waiting for the lamp to visibly stop operating.

Puretec HYBRID-G13 vs Basic Whole-House Filtration

Capability HYBRID-G13 Basic Sediment / Carbon System
Sediment Filtration Yes – triple-stage treatment Usually
Carbon Treatment Yes Model dependent
Fine 1-Micron Stage Yes Model dependent
UV Treatment Yes No unless separately added
Microbiological Treatment UV treatment included Not provided by ordinary sediment/carbon filtration
Outdoor Enclosure Included Model dependent
UV Alarm / Timer Included Not applicable without UV

The main reason to choose the G13 over a basic whole-house filter is not simply additional filtration capacity. It is the addition of an integrated UV microbiological treatment stage.

Puretec HYBRID-G13 vs HYBRID-G12

Specification HYBRID-G13 HYBRID-G12
Filtration Stages 3 3
Cartridge Size 20 inch 10 inch
Stage 1 PL05MP2 PL05MP1
Stage 2 CB05MP2 CB05MP1
Stage 3 PX01MP2 PX01MP1
Published Filtration Flow 120 L/min 60 L/min
UV Lamp RL6 RL6
UV Flow @ 30mJ/cm² 70 L/min 70 L/min
Connection 1" BSP 1" BSP
Current Status Current Discontinued

The G13's main advantage over the older G12 is its larger 20-inch filtration package and increased filtration capacity. Both use the same RL6 UV platform and therefore share the same published UV dose/flow figures.

HYBRID-G13 vs Puretec EM2 Filtration

Puretec's EM2 systems are excellent choices where the treatment requirement is primarily sediment filtration or sediment plus carbon treatment.

The HYBRID-G13 moves beyond that approach by combining three filtration stages with UV treatment.

Choose an EM2 When...

You primarily need whole-house sediment or sediment-and-carbon filtration and do not require integrated UV treatment.

Choose HYBRID-G13 When...

You want an integrated rainwater treatment system combining sediment, carbon, fine filtration and ultraviolet treatment.

Water Quality Still Matters

Neither product should be selected from model name alone. Incoming water quality and the intended use determine the required treatment process.

HYBRID-G13 Replacement Cartridges and UV Components

Stage 1 Replacement PL05MP2
Stage 2 Replacement CB05MP2
Stage 3 Replacement PX01MP2
Replacement UV Lamp RL6
Replacement Quartz Sleeve RQS6

Puretec specifies the use of genuine replacement cartridges and components for the HYBRID-G13.

Cartridge life depends on incoming water quality, sediment loading and household usage. The UV lamp and quartz sleeve also require routine maintenance because correct UV performance depends on lamp output and the ability of UV light to pass through the quartz sleeve into the water.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Puretec HYBRID-G13?

Suitable incoming rainwater or approved water source
Suitable outdoor installation position
Correct 1" / 25mm plumbing arrangement
Appropriate water pressure
Approved pressure limiting where required
Suitable isolation and bypass arrangement
Adequate servicing clearance
Suitable electrical supply for UV operation
Protection from freezing
Adequate incoming water clarity for UV treatment
Correct flow direction
Leak, flow and operational checks during commissioning

The HYBRID-G13 Requires Power

Unlike the filtration-only Puretec EM2 systems, the HYBRID-G13 includes an ultraviolet treatment system and therefore requires electrical power for UV operation.

The electrical supply and installation position need to suit the manufacturer's requirements and applicable electrical conditions.

If electrical work or a new suitable power point is required, this needs to form part of the overall installation scope.

The UV system should not be treated as operational when its lamp and controller are not correctly powered.

Pressure Requirements

Puretec's HYBRID-G Series technical data specifies a supply-pressure range of approximately 300–875kPa.

Puretec also states that where line pressure exceeds 500kPa, an approved pressure-limiting device must be installed to comply with applicable Australian and New Zealand plumbing requirements.

The site's actual pressure and pump arrangement should therefore be checked before commissioning the system.

Can the HYBRID-G13 Replace My Existing Rainwater Filtration System?

Replacing an Older Hybrid

Existing pipework and power may simplify the installation, but connection layout, pressure and service clearance still need to be checked.

Upgrading From an EM2

The G13 adds a third filtration stage and UV treatment, so the installation also requires suitable electrical supply and additional space.

Replacing Separate Filters + UV

The G13 can consolidate filtration and UV equipment into a purpose-built weather-protected Puretec enclosure where the hydraulic requirements suit.

New Rainwater System

A new installation should be designed around tank capacity, pump performance, peak household demand, plumbing and water quality.

Mains + Rainwater Setup

The G13 can form part of a system using both water sources, but the existing changeover arrangement needs to be considered separately.

Poor Water Clarity

Additional testing or treatment may be required where incoming water has poor UV transmission or unusually high contamination loading.
