Electrolux EQE5657BA Review – The Fridge That Failed in 18 Months

If you're considering the Electrolux EQE5657BA French Door Fridge, read this before you spend a cent.

We purchased the EQE5657BA in November 2023 as part of an $8,500 Electrolux kitchen package, including other Electrolux and Westinghouse appliances. It seemed like a great deal—$1,994 for a sleek French door fridge. But less than two years later, it turned into a complete failure and a waste of time, money, and trust.

Fridge Dead After 18 Months

We returned from a family holiday on May 17, 2025, to discover the Electrolux fridge had completely died.
The freezer was warm, and everything—hundreds of dollars in meat and food—was ruined.

Service Delays & Useless Repairs

  • We booked a repair on May 20.

  • It took over a week to get someone out.

  • The first part arrived a week later—didn’t fix it.

  • A second part was ordered—two more weeks—and again, it didn’t fix the issue.

That’s 4.5 weeks with no fridge.
No support. No urgency. No result.

Hidden Costs – No One Warned Us

During this time, we had to:

  • Shop daily for food.

  • Drive back and forth for groceries.

  • Waste dozens of hours in the car.

  • Deal with the mental and emotional load of not being able to store meals, pack school lunches, or plan ahead.

The impact on a working family was massive—far beyond just a broken fridge.

Electrolux’s “Solution”: Pay Again

Finally, on June 19, we received a call from Victoria at Electrolux Customer Care offering a $1,994 credit.
But the same model—Electrolux EQE5657BA—now costs $2,849.

So we’re expected to pay another $855 out of pocket just to get back what we had… a fridge that lasted 18 months.

And because our original price was part of a package deal, they won’t honour it again—despite their product being the problem.

Why JR Gas & Water No Longer Stocks Electrolux

This experience is exactly why JR Gas & Water has officially pulled all Electrolux products from our store, including Westinghouse and Chef cooking appliances.

We no longer supply or rent any Electrolux Group products, and they will not be available in our rental replacement program.

We refuse to stand behind brands that leave customers stranded.
Our decision is a direct result of the poor handling of this issue by Victoria from Electrolux Customer Care.
